  1. Imagine that an administration rewarding loyalty
  2. One of the assistants has expressed interest and should be given an interview. Hopefully he’s given the opportunity to lead the program.
  3. Coach Smith was offered an assistant college job and he took it. His goal is to be a college head coach.
  4. I went to high school in Illinois in the mid 80's and we had 2 classes in basketballs and there were just over 200 high schools, both public and private, in Chicago alone (that's not counting the suburbs). Illinois now has 4 classes in basketball and 8 in football but in my opinion in Tennessee 4 classes in D1 basketball, 6 classes in D1 football and 3 in D2 football is WAY too many. There are not enough schools to justify this many titles, some people say it's about the TSSAA making money but when the numbers are down at the state tournament no one is making money, now I've been hearing of schools wanting a rural metro split. Three classes in basketball should be sufficient, in football there should be 4 in D1 and 2 in D2. There are too many 4 team districts in basketball. More doesn't mean better.
  5. Dobyns-Bennett future looks really good. They won the 22nd Annual Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish Freshman Shoot-Out this weekend. They defeated Anderson County in the quarterfinals 48-28, Knoxville Catholic in the semifinals 48-36, and Austin-East in the Championship 68-41. This was D-B's fourth time winning the tournament (2007, 2011, and 2016). Very well coached.
  6. He can go to his zoned school and be eligible.
  7. Good point, I didn't consider all sports.
  8. How about two classes in D2 based on the amount financial aid you spend on sports? However there is always the possibility that schools could fudge money numbers to play in a different classification. I made the trip to Lipscomb to watch them play Catholic and I was amazed by their facilities. What I assumed was a gym was an indoor practice facility. Impressive.
  9. So what I'm hearing is that the other private schools can't compete (or don't want to compete) with McCallie, Brentwood Academy, or MBA so make a class with a handful of teams (we know how the publics feel, they demanded a split). I went to high school in Chicago back in the 80's and in basketball there were just 2 classes for the entire state of Illinois. There were 6 classes in football. Keep in mind Chicago has over 300 high schools counting public schools, charter schools, suburban schools and private schools. I think there is 4 classes today. The classes expanded when they allowed all of the Chicago public schools to compete for a state basketball title. In football there is now 8. There are around 800 high schools competing in the IHSA, 426 in Tennessee, yet we have 9 classes in football? A little extreme to me, the TSSAA can't be making that much money off these state title games.
  10. But an entire class made up of only 11 teams?
  11. Catholic plays those teams because local teams refuse to play. Look at the basketball schedule, travels to Memphis, Kentucky, Georgia and North Carolina. The athletic teams are told that their administration won't allow them to play private schools. I'm sure some don't allow it but I'm pretty sure some use it as an excuse to say no. The only local teams to play Catholic in basketball is Bearden and Austin-East. Football has been facing that issue for a while. I can't speak for Coach Mobbs but I'm sure he would like to play Farragut, Bearden, Maryville, and more local teams.
  12. The Church and the school are separate entities. I know the other Catholic churches weren't real thrilled when the Bishop remodeled S.H.
  13. Swipes you are correct sir, I should have known that...since my son played on the 2015 team. Old age lol. It's been an adjustment moving to D2. Like i stated in a previous post, I think the difference is the OL and DL.
  14. Those teams are willing to play, when you play region games in Chattanooga and Nashville, why should they travel to Kentucky? All my kids attended Knoxville Catholic and played sports. There is this misconception that there is this unlimited financial resources.... there isn't.
  15. Knox Catholic won titles in 2016 and 2018 under Steve Matthews. 2017 team lost 1 game on the field (had to forfeit a game). Some relevance
  16. Catholic beat Baylor last year 31-21. Baylor is a very well coached team and they have speed and talent on offense and defense. Catholic lost to PJPII last year 36-33 and MBA 17-10. In my opinion OL and DL are the major factors in competing in D2. Catholic lost a lot of skill players from last year.
  17. The Board of Control should have term limits. Time to get people in who will listen and use common sense.
  18. Everyone gets a trophy? He's correct, as a 30 year coaching veteran in the state of Tennessee, we are too small for all these classes. 4 and 5 team districts, a class 3A in DII made up of 12 schools come on.
  19. Despite losing three double digit scorers, and their head coach to retirement, Knoxville Catholic looks like they will be competitive in DII-AA. They've split with Fulton in two summer camp games beating the Falcons at Webb and losing by 2 at Karns.
  20. They lost to a Knoxville Catholic team with three D1 (power 5) recruits. Those are some ridiculous expectations from the administration to let a guy go with a 30-1 record.
