  1. West punted...Maryville has ball at own 20, 6:52 1st quarter
  2. West returned the opening kickoff to the Maryville 44. West moved the ball inside the Rebel 20, but penalties moved them back.
  3. DB's band is the hands down winner. I also like Maryville's band, even though the fight song is from Notre Dame. YUCK!!!
  4. Kev, You better write a good story on this one. I know somebody that is waiting to get a few jabs in at you if the Pioneers lose. If you think real hard, you'll figure out who it is. Anyway, I have heard your stuff about Rutledge on here before, and I have seen Seymour in person this season. If the Pioneers stop the Eagles running game, they'll blow Seymour away, but I don't see that happening. My prediction: Rutledge 21, Seymour 17.
  5. I happen to be a Morristown West fan, so did get on me for that. I can't believe just how talented that freshman team from Maryville is. The defense is hard-nosed, and they definitely aren't afraid to hit hard. And that offense is outstanding. The Baker kid is a horse, and he'll be tough as nails when he is a senior.
  6. GQ doesn't produce strong team after strong team, he inherits strong team after strong team. I think a lot of the credit for the Maryville success should got to the middle school coaches as well because they obviously know what their doing too. As for this game, I still think it will be a close one. MHS 17, MW 10.
  7. I think Woods and GQ are on the same level. GQ just happens to have a better talent base to work with than Woods has right now, but that doesn't make him a better or worse coach.
  8. I'll have some updates also as the game goes along. I'll also post updates on Maryville/Morristown West.
  9. I'm a West fan, and I would love to see the Trojans win at the Skeeter tonight. But it won't be an easy game. I think West will hang tough, but Maryville will win it 17-7.
  10. Maryville 17, Motown West 10 in a defensive slugfest.
  11. I didn't personally compare Scooter to Clarett. I said if his suspension wasn't overturned, he could have a suspension as long as Clarett. As in one year (according to the TSSAA bylaws) because he was thrown out of the state wrestling tournament. I don't know the kid, but I hear from lots of people that he is a great kid. I wish JCHS a lot of success the rest of the season, and I hope they beat DB on Friday. I'm also glad the unfounded suspensions were reversed.
  12. You're exactly right bud. But Jeff County has to win first. If DB wins, I could see them running the table, if they don't run into trouble in the playoffs.
  13. Whoever said Fanney got in Meadows face and cussed him is lying. Fanney has had his on-field problems in the past, but he's a pretty good kid. Fanney even went as far as to say he would vouch for Scooter and Carson that they didn't fight so that their suspensions would be overturned.
  14. The actual AP poll has DB #1, and JCHS #6. Should be a good one. I see it this way since Scooter and Carson are playing... JCHS 21, DB 20 since it's at Leroy Shannon Field. I would pick DB if it was at Duplex Field. (just kidding) My earlier prediction was when everyone thought the suspensions were gonna stand. A JCHS win would definitely put them in the top-3 next week in the poll, and they might have a chance at #1.
  15. I'm friends with LawyerMilloy and several other Jeff County fans, so the first part of this post may upset them. I don't think Jefferson County can win this game. I believe the Indians have a little too much for them right now, so I say DB 28-20. Now for the part the Jeff County fans will like...I know that the Patriots will beat DB in the playoffs no matter where it is played. The Indians fold like an accordian in the playoffs, and the Patriots will get them in November.
  16. From what I hear, Coach Meadows is supposed to find out today if the suspensions will be lifted. And like I mentioned in another thread, if Houston's suspension is not lifted, he could be sitting out for a while because of an ejection from the state wrestling tournament last year. The TSSAA doesn't take these things lightly, so I don't expect to see the suspension of Houston overturned because the tape is inconclusive on just what he actually did. As for Carson, I believe his suspension will be reversed because he was nowhere near the altercation in question. But then again, the TSSAA has been known to do much stranger things. I'll post something on here about this when I find out later today exactly what will happen.
  17. hey LawyerMilloy... What about Greeneville where the corner of the endzone has a boulder in it? The Cocke County stuff is priceless, especially with their CCHS license plate/shirt/hat giveaways every quarter.
  18. Tito Brown of JCHS was Co-Player with Ferguson this week.
  19. Couldn't be any worse than you get at Jefferson County. But the worst of all - and Jefferson County fans, Knox Central fans, and most IMAC fans will agree - is at Greeneville High School. It's almost like the GHS administrators are the ones with the whistles.
  20. There is no love lost between these two teams, and everyone on here that knows me knows I don't like Maryville. But I do give credit where it's due. Maryville's defense is great, but so is Morristown West's defense. As for great defenses helping teams win, well West couldn't hold Cleveland to negative points. Call me crazy, but if you don't score, you don't win. Also, if not for an INT on the 10-yard line against Jefferson County with 30 seconds left, we would all be talking about two top-5 teams playing this week. The West offense has gotten much better, and the defense will be up to the challenge. Like LawyerMilloy said, this one will be Corso. West plays real close in this one against the Rebs.
  21. Clarifying the Scooter/Carson incident... On the game tape (I've been told by someone who has seen it), Carson is nearly 15 yards away from the incident in question, and I have no idea why he was thrown out. As for Houston, it's not really clear what he did or if he did anything, but it looks like he was holding Parker Clement back. Coach Meadows is going to Nashville today to try and fix this, but it is hard telling what the TSSAA big wigs will do. For JCHS fans, you better hope that the Houston suspension is overturned, due to his previous disciplinary decision at the wrestling state tourney last spring. That could cause a huge problem for him if you know the bylaws of the TSSAA rule book. Let's just say, "Does Maurice Clarett's punishment ring a bell?"
  22. Scooter Houston and Aaron Carson for JCHS were tossed out, but Brandon Fanney was not. Coach Meadows is heading to Nashville today to try and get the suspensions for next week for both players overturned. From talking to one of my colleagues, he tells me that the game tape of the incident should be able to clear at least Carson in the matter, but it is difficult to say about Houston. As for Fanney at UT, I don't think he is at that level right now. He eventually could be with a lot of hard work, but I agree that he would be better suited at Carson-Newman or MTSU.
  23. That will change as the season goes along because East has played absolutely nobody. I hope that the Canes beat up Cocke County and Carter so they are 4-1 when they play West, who will probably be 2-3. But the early schedule strength of West will help them on down the road. As for the East/West game, right now I would say... West 24, East 7.
  24. Morristown West has stopped good teams on offense this season. They just got off to a bad start against Jefferson County in which the Patriots had nearly half of their total yards for the whole game in just the first quarter. After the first quarter, the Patriots had some trouble moving the ball. Granted, Cocke County is not the best team in the world, but they were held in check by West, as was Cleveland and Levonte Barber. Cleveland scored on a 47-yard field goal and a 64-yard trick play to beat West. Take away the 64-yard halfback pass, and Cleveland has less than 100 yards of total offense in the game on their home field. But all of that is in the past, and the Maryville game is all the Trojans will be focused on now. The Maryville players may remember the loss to West two years ago, but West also remembers that win at Maryville. The West players also remember what has happened in the three games against the Rebels since then. Coach Woods and his staff will have West ready to play on Friday night. I just don't know if it will be enough. I can certainly see West winning this game because it has the feel of the game two years ago that West won 31-24, but my prediction is... Maryville 21, Morristown West 10.
  25. Well, PeeWee Fanney will play. If the rain that is forecast for Friday comes in like expected, this will be a very close game. Should be exciting to see this one. I wish I could be there.
