  1. Here are the match-ups according to the TSSAA brackets online: Class A: Top Bracket - Rockwood vs. Friendship Christian USJ vs. Goodpasture Bottom Bracket - Chattanooga Christian vs. Huntingdon Unaka vs. Mt. Pleasant Class AA: Top Bracket - Milan vs. Dyer Co. Unicoi Co. vs. Grundy Co. Bottom Bracket - Lipscomb vs. Covington Montgomery Central vs. Seymour Class AAA: Top Bracket - Columbia vs. Hunters Lane Farragut vs. Munford Bottom Bracket - Knox. Halls vs. McGavock Collierville vs. Soddy-Daisy Looks like we have some very interesting first round match-ups (Farragut vs. Munford, Lipscomb vs. Covington, and USJ vs. Goodpasture to name one from each class). Good luck to all, especially West Tennessee teams.
  2. Three girls from my Jr. High team are looking for a team this summer. These girls have a tremendous upside, but just need to play basketball. I have one post (around 5'9") who started as a 7th grader last year, last year's starting point guard (also a 7th grader) who led us in scoring, and the third is a project. She just tried out and made next years team two weeks ago. She has a nice shot, but the kicker is - she is legit 8th grade and comes in at 6'0" tall. I'd love to get any or all of these girls playing this year. The third hasn't played for me, but the other two have, so there's at least a base knowledge that exists. Please leave a post or e-mail me at coachscott17@hotmail.com Thanks
  3. Day 1 Trenton: Dyersburg 13 Liberty 6 Peabody 5 Liberty 4 Davidson Acad. 3 TCA 2 Humboldt: JCM 8 Gibson Co. 4 Humboldt 16 Gibson Co. 0 USJ 5 Harriman 1 Day 2 Trenton: Peabody 7 Dyerburg 4 TCA 5 Dyersburg 4 Liberty 6 TCA 6 (tie) Liberty 8 Davidson Acad. 6 Peabody 5 Davdison Acad. 4 Humboldt: USJ 9 Humboldt 8 USJ 10 Gibson Co. 0 Harriman 11 USJ 5 Harriman 7 JCM 3 Humboldt 5 JCM 3 Standings - Trenton - 3-0 TCA 1-1-1 Davidson Acad 1-2 Dyersburg 1-2 Liberty 1-3 USJ 3-0 Humboldt 2-1 Harriman 2-1 JCM 1-2 Gibson Co. 0-4 Trenton will win the first pool and host the winner of this morning's Humboldt/Harriman game. USJ will win the second pool. In the first pool the second place team will be TCA if they defeat Peabody this morning and Dyersburg defeats Davidson Academy. If Davidson Academy wins against Dyersburg, then they finish second. If Davidson Academy and TCA both lose, then Dyersburg finishes second. It has been a great tournament so far. Here's hoping the weather continues to cooperate today.
  4. Tues - Humboldt 13 JCS 7 Fri - Brighton 10 Humboldt 7
  5. I'm not sure about the entire staff, but I know that one assistant coach is Brad Davis, formerly of Lexington. Brad is a great baseball guy and will do a great job at Lavergne. Good luck coach!
  6. Is this Macon Co. team the same that played under the name Lafayette at this year's state Babe Ruth tournament in Marshall Co.?
  7. Are you kidding? Xavier joins the likes of Richard and Reginald Delk of North Side and Joe Shivers of Humboldt (just to name three) on the Mid-State Ballaz. Not only is this not a weak team, but it is quite possibly THE elite team for juniors in the state. Webb is a tremendous talent who has only been helped by the likes of Coach Stigall, a young, knowledgeable guy, coming to WC.
  8. Any updates? If no hiring in baseball/basketball/etc has been done, who is doing the hiring? AD/Principal/?
  9. What about the girls junior high coach at Lake Co? Coach Newsome has the team in contention every year and the girls will play for him. Top that off with the fact that Bret Johnson is his half brother, and surely his name is in the hat? I'm not from the area, so those who are let us know.
  10. First, I'd like to ask how many threads do we need with Lexington as the topic? Second, I'd like to make a point that I've already made on another Lexington topic. You are talking trash about seeing other teams in the region, when the past two years JW's team (I assume Humboldt by his name - pretty good detective work!) has eliminated Lexington in the FIRST game of the region. In 2002, Lexington was the #2 seed and last year they were the district champs and took a first round exit. We all assume that the humble pie will taste good - you obviously have sampled it enough to be an expert.
  11. Not only is Bolivar going to be an overwhelming challenge for Lexington and all of 11AA, but anyone from district 12AA is going to be tough. Once you make it past the district, you get to choose from Bolivar, Humboldt, Chester Co., South Side, or Liberty (one team of those won't even make the region). In fact, the past two years, Humboldt (the #3 seed in 2002 and the #4 seed in 2003) has knocked Lexington out of the tournament. Good luck, but expect the same in '04.
  12. Milan's girls are currently 17-0 (may be 18 now) and are 34-2 over the past two years. Three very talented 8th graders will join FR Teena Carter and SO Gretchen Seyerle next year. Good young nucleus for the future.
  13. Gomab, Where exactly do you think sophomores T. Smith and K. Rose from Humboldt land on the radar? Obviously, they shouldn't be on this very elite list, but do they deserve a mention?

    TMSAA

Dates are Feb. 9-14th in Jackson. Memphis, Northwest, and WTAC teams are not available yet, so a bracket won't be drawn until the Saturday prior. Jackson teams are (boys) Jackson Middle and West Middle and (girls) Tigrett and Jackson Middle.
  15. Lewis Harris Memorial AAA - Munford, Bolton, Bartlett, Jackson North Side, Collierville, Fairley, Germantown, Houston, Cordova, Millington, White Station, Beech, Karns, White House AA - Brighton, Humboldt, Covington, Creekwood Div II - Briarcrest, ECS, MUS Out of state - Kennett, Marquette, Gosnell Easter Slam AAA - JCM, Dyersburg AA - Humboldt, Gibson County, Liberty Tech A - USJ, Davidson Academy, TCA, Peabody, Harriman
  16. Tyner, good post and congratulations to your team. Devil will post on any board that even hints that it is talking about AA girls basketball just to sing the praises of Jackson Co. We all know the success they've had and that one of every five threads are about them, but he insists on ruining several other topics. Just ignore and attempt to have conversations despite him.
  17. First off, Medina IS a feeder school for Gibson County High School, regardless of how near or far it is between the schools. Most Medina students choose to either attend Milan or North Side in Madison Co., but that doesn't change the fact that its part of the system. Medina parents are proposing the building of a new high school, however, which could be interesting, within the next few years. They would probably separate from the GC system then, giving Gibson County six separate high schools and school systems. Imagine if Peabody, GC, Milan, Humboldt, and Bradford combined for one high school - pretty decent athletic program. Second, Gibson Co. could be AA or AAA and lose all their games. If they were A, which is not even a thought, then they might win 3, but still miss the playoffs.
  18. At many schools, however, you may do both. Because track (as long as you are not trying to compete in many field events) is not a sport that requires long hours of practice, many baseball coaches will agree to allow athletes to compete at the meets. Just for an example, I believe Lexington had an athlete that competed in Chattanooga two years ago in both the Track and Field state tournament and played for the baseball team (at the same time the baseball team was winning the state AA title.) It may require a little more strain on the student, but if he truly wants to do both I think that coaches would make allowances for such a situation. Good luck!
  19. 1. Bolivar 2. South Side 3. Haywood 4. Humboldt 5. Ripley 6. Union City 7. Westview 8. Liberty Tech 9. Dyer Co. 10. Chester Co. I think you will see Milan vs. Humboldt in the championship game, by the way. That will make the fourth in a row, with Humboldt winning 2 of the first 3, including last year's blowout.
  20. To answer the first question by JMS, I don't think anyone will beat NS in the region THIS year. My post was simply to point out that their supporters were bragging about beating teams in a lower class. This would compare to South Side or Bolivar fans getting on here to brag about beating USJ, JCS, or Middleton. Wouldn't happen. In response to the second question, the districts are fairly divided when you look at the criteria by which that happens. They are not divided by parity, but rather by geography. However, if you look at last year's regional tournament, only one team from district 11 won their 1st round regional game -- Milan. In order from top to bottom, Bolivar defeated McKenzie, South Side defeated Camden, Chester County lost to Milan, and Humboldt defeated their top seed Lexington. For right now, the boys basketball seems to be unevenly divided. These things will work theirselves out over time, but the boys from District 11 will always have a tough time making it out. Merry Christmas to everyone!
  21. North Side enjoys claiming the top spot in West Tennessee after winning games against AA schools. Just for local rivals' sake, that's great. However, Bolivar, South Side, and Liberty won't be standing between you and Murfreesboro. Congrats on beating Ridgeway, who is brand new to the AAA scene, but playing 12 out of your 15 non-district/region games against non-AAA schools won't help. In AA, Bolivar and South Side are the top tier. Humboldt and now Liberty can both challenge for the region spots. Teams from District 11 (Milan, Lexington, etc) don't have a chance of advancing past the region. North Side can stop talking trash about Bolivar and South Side, because they can beat them all they like and still watch them make a trip to the big dance and not the Indians. Don't look for this year to be different. Either Bolivar or South Side (or both) will go to Murfreesboro, and North Side will not. But maybe the Indians will make it out of the region this year.

    MUMFORD HIGH

So, who are the frontrunners for replacing Coach Mahoney? Who has applied? What is the timetable for hiring a new coach?
  23. Good lists, but don't leave Humboldt out. They are 7-1 with wins over Ripley, Milan by 18 and Westview by 20. Their only loss was Friday by 5 to AAA North Side.
  24. First off, the post (however misguided) should have been about McKenzie, since that was the title. Jackson County is the best AA girls team in the state, and has been for the past five years. We get it. Second, the word "dominate" should not be used for a team that finished 16-11, including five losses to single A teams, and another loss to Milan, who finished 5-21. The Lady Rebels did play in the sub-state against Cheatham County, but did so after finishing third in the district tournament and "dominating" both Humboldt and South Side by four points each. Good luck to all the ladies in West Tennessee this season, including the Lady Rebels. Just get some of your fans a dictionary.
  25. It's a final. Germantown 10 Riverdale 7. Congratulations to Boyd-Buchanan, Huntingdon, Fulton, Hillsboro, and Germantown on winning the gold ball! East TN: 2 Middle TN: 1 West TN: 2 Spreading the wealth!
