  1. Just so everyone know the whole OR team knows the Mr. Williams is not playing. Also know this, it has not changed our practice intensity or lowered our respect to the Region 1 5A champs. In fact if I had to pick one player on their team to be kicked off it would be #20, what a passer!! I look for DB to play better without him, but you never know. We are ready and waiting for the TRIBE. good luck *DB fans and players look for me I am the spaz on Kickoff, hope you guys enjoy your Pizza* Sunshine #23 Roll Wildcats Roll
  2. Goose, You and I saw the same thing. Laura gets the tipped pass, but is hooked in the arm by the defender. I thought the ref had no choice but to make the call as Laura had a good chance to get the shot off. What was impressive to me was how well OS executed the long in-bounds play: great pass, good tip, and an excellent chance to make the shot. I thought the refs did an adequate job, they allowed both teams to be physical; lots of no-calls with Laura driving into the paint. As for the team, I think this is a better team already than last year. They are deeper and it seems like everyone can handle the ball and shoot. Even though I'm from Oak Ridge I'll be looking forward to seeing a lot of good basketball in Oliver Springs.
  3. Why don't we get together at the visitor's entrance from the parking lot?
  4. What a game! First, I thought Jeff Co. was an awesome team. Everybody on our side of the field were just waiting for the Pats to bust out, but they never did. Hats off to their players, they have a lot of class and are a credit to their community. Second, our defense played with incredible heart: 3 red zone stops in the 1st half! I thought they did an outstanding job stopping the run and taking Jeff Co. out of what they wanted to do. That said, we had no answer for Tyler Brown. He did an outstanding job at receiver. Third, good game plan executed perfectly by the offense. Spencer had a monster game as well as Cory. Scott (QB) did a solid job running the offense. Bottom line... we wanted this game and wouldn't be denied. On to DB!!
  5. Even though we beat Heritage pretty bad, I would agree that coaching was not the reason. I thought this was a vastly improved Heritage team, they were just a few athletes shorts to being competitive in our region. I thought for us, they were well prepared and played very hard. If I were a parent for either of the Blount County High Schools I would do 2 things: First, I would be breathing down the necks of your Board of Education regarding the sorry state of athletics. If they don't listen, band together and put up your own slate of candidates and throw the bums out. Second, don't think that the county is going to fund your program completely. IOW, beef up the booster organizations so that you can have competitive programs. Your athletes deserve better. Give it to them. Fight.
  6. Best wishes to Coach Helton for a speedy recovery and to the team to play hard and smart without this Friday.
  7. Of course Stan, the devil is in the details. Boyd's coach is also the president of the school. Which of course is a lot more than just coaching. Bad example sir.
  8. Govman, I won't disagree too strongly. First, it seems that William Blount brought their A- games only 3 times this year, Soddy-Daisy, Oak Ridge and Jeff County. I don't know why you couldn't play Maryville any better, especially defending the run, but that gets into the mental aspect of the game. You might be unestimating the effect of losing your defensive leader (Grubb?) as well. Second, honestly, I don't see much difference in the level of play between the top 4-A and the top 5-A schools in this part of the state. There are bad 5A schools, there are worse 4A schools. I don't think Maryville and Central is any better than OR, however, we'll not know that because we won't play. However, when we don't play to our potential we are just an average team. Third, as far as the rest of the state, I would give the nod to the south metro area of Nashville as having the best football. Bigger schools, better athletes, usually ends up with a W at the end of the season. Fourth, a higher class doesn't mean better teams. In Florida, the best teams by far are the 4-A schools out of 6 classes. Finally, I think E. Tennessee will be well represented in the Clinic Bowl this year, let's hope.
  9. I believe it is a wrinkle that the Offensive cordinator wants to have at top game by the deep parts of the playoffs if we need it. Both times I think he saw an opportunity to work on it against inferior opponents. Go Wildcats!!! Sunshine#23
  10. I believe it is a wrinkle that the Offensive cordinator wants to have at top game by the deep parts of the playoffs if we need it. Both times I think he saw an opportunity to work on it against inferior opponents. Thank you for the good comments Art, and go wildcats. sunshine #23
  11. Willie, This should be a classic at the 'ship. A great battle between 2 of the state's best backfields. We need to be much sharper than we played against Sevier County, which was a much closer game than the score indicated. I like our chances if we come out and play hard make the most of our opportunities. I understand that Jeff Co. travels well, which should really juice up the game atmosphere. Wish you could come on up and catch the game.
  12. Yes, the checkerboards will be back. Only thing complicating that would be the weather.
  13. I think this will be tougher than most people think. I say OR 28 - SC 14. I am looking to see us come out focused and ready to elevate our level of play. IT'S PLAYOFF TIME!!!
  14. This Saturday in Athens, the Oak Ridge Freshmen Wildcats will be playing the Ooltewah Freshmen Owls for the TVAC (?) Freshmen Championship. Looking forward to a great game. Don't know much about the Owls, but they looked pretty good in the Rhea County scrimmage. We have improved a lot over the season with good coaching and tons of effort from our guys. Looking for comments from others...
  15. Viper, Should I apply your logic to another one of our common opponents, McMinn County? If I take that game, then it's OR by at least 4 tds. No, I think you have to look at the most recent performances and see that BOTH teams are playing well. However, I'll continue to ride with a defense that has been very stingy all season. OR 28 - SD 7.
  16. No way, unless Seymour's team got lost on their way to the field.
  17. Hotsauce, Soddy haters????? Please! Nobody on here is putting down Soddy Daisy, they are just expressing their opinion on the outcome of the game. As far as defense... Then you must not have not seen our defense play. Even with the offensive up and downs, the defense just keeps getting better. For the rest of you, both defenses are very good and this should be a low scoring affair with OR coming out on top 21-7. Still waiting on Willie's comments on the last game. Go Cats!!
  18. Home cooking? I was at the game last year, I don't remember any calls going anybody's way. I do remeber that the game was a lot closer than it should have been. This game should be a tough one between 2 teams that are playing very well right now. I will be there cheering on my Wildcats. I agree with Willie, at this point in the season it is really up to the attitude of the players. Which team really wants this game the worst. Just don't expect 400 yards of rushing against our defense.
  19. 2 things happened in our 2 low scoring wins: 1. The offense struggled. Way too many penalties that stopped drives cold and kept us from gaining momentum during the game. Also, both teams' defenses played outstanding games against us. However, in those 2 games, if the offense was sharp, there would have been a greater margin of victory Which leads me to point 2.... 2. An ever improving defense. Since the DB game, our starting defense has given up no more than 1 TD in any game. In fact, in the last 2 games, our starting defense has given up no touchdowns. Like I said earlier, I am glad we got it together on both sides of the ball, but I would say the most impressive part of the Wildcat's game down the stretch is the defensive play.
  20. Yes, Cory was hurt last week against Farragut. I thought he played well, especially as a decoy. Ooltewah really went for the fakes to him. I just keep hoping that teams keep up the belief that Booker is all we have. We had six, count em, different players score touchdowns Friday night. For the SD fans, now you will get our undivided attention. Seriously, I have been proud of our guys for taking the games one week at a time. Next week's game should be a great one, both teams are playing very well now, looking forward to seeing it. BTW, Willie!! Looking for your comments on the game.
  21. Payback time at the Nest! Oak Ridge played very well in a lop-sided victory over the Owls of Ooltewah. By doing so they clinched a tie for the Region 2 championship and home-field advantage for the playoffs. I thought this was the first time we played well on both sides of the ball at the same time. We moved the ball well on the ground and through the air. The D was awesome, Ooltewah really couldn't do anything except when we put in the reserves. Good to see us back on our game just in time to face a very good team in Soddy Daisy.
  22. I was a the game and I would say that the refs did a good job against difficult circumstances. It was a good game for OS in that they beat a team with better speed and size with a team that played together and executed well enough to win. That said, I like too see hard football, but what I saw was fairly undisciplined football. Yes, kicking players in the head will get you kicked out of football game everytime. Good luck to the Bobcats for the rest of the season and hope you all go deep in the playoffs.
  23. Supersteve, I have suggested the same in earlier threads. The "problem" is not 1A Privates, they are doing only what any school would do to be sucessful within the rules. The "problem" is very small public high schools that don't have the resources to be competitive with larger high schools and private schools in our larger metro areas. Also, why do the classes have to be equal in number? Could you not have some classes larger than others in order to even out the competition? Yes, splitting out the "real small" schools would make too much sense.
