  1. Must have been a terrific game. Congrats to Unaka on the Conference crown and to the Lady Landers on a well fought effort. This may not be the last time this two teams meet since they may meet in tournaments. I, and most other Lander fans, have the utmost respect for Unaka fans, but it seems most Unaka fans dont respect Lander fans. These comments above just state that point further. Why can't you guys just focus on the On-court action instead of taking jabs at the Communities involved. After all, it is just a game.
  2. With the new rules and the unpredicablity of racing especially plate racing, anyone and anybody could pull off the biggest victory of the year in the DAYTONA 500!
  3. I am real glad to see Hmeil get his act right. The only reason he was tested was because of some on track accidents and a scuffle in the garage at Richmond. I am mixed on Wimmer driving. Techinally, he does not meet requirements to run since he has lost his drivers license in NC. To participate in a NASCAR sanctioned event, you must a valid drivers licenese. He is innocent until proven guilty but he don't meet requirements and also what kind of example if NASCAR setting by saying "Ok, you can't legally drive on the street but we will let you drive on the track at 200 mph." I understand it was hard to make that decison, but why make rules when you are going to break them. It is just tough to see I guess.
  4. What a wild race. It was interesting to watch. If the rest of the season races are as good we will be on for a good year.
  5. Shane Hmiel has been cleared to return to NASCAR competition after failing a post race drug test after the Richmond Busch race. He is scheduled to run the ARCA race on Saturday in Daytona. Scott Wimmer, Driver of thej #22 Bill Davis Dodge, will drive in the Daytona 500 while facing a drunk driving charge in NC. NASCAR will allow the judical system run its course. Court date is set for March 10 for him and his wife, who was charged with Obstruction of Justice.

  7. There will probably be some flaws and it is a work in progress. That's one thing NASCAR is not afraid to do. If they see a need, they will change the rules. That is something the other leagues won't do. It will be an interesting year to say the least. 8 DAYS UNTIL THE DAYTONA 500
  8. If he is with in 400 points of the leader, he does have an opportunity. I like it. It will add some intensity and excitment to the series. The one thing I don't like is they only added 5 more points for winning a race. It should have been more. There will be an incredible championship race.
  9. Wow, it must have been an excellent game. I wish I could have made it. From what I have heard and read, it was a hard fought battle and both teams deserved the win. Congrats to Unaka on a hard fought victory and great job to the Landers on a great effort. The Unaka vs. Cloudland game in Roan Mountain will hopefully be just as exciting. I can see where Pujo is coming from talking about Unaka fans predicting a blowout, but a win is a win no matter the margin. Once again congrats to Unaka!
  10. King, if Lunsford or Anderson been coaching this would not have happened. Those two expect more class out of their players then that. Birchfield needs to get in control before the problems get worse. I think Lunsford or even Anderson would have won state with last years starting five and again before the sophmore's senior year, but with Birchfield I seriously doubt it. I know that they would not have stood for this and thh players behind it probably wouldn't be playing for a while.
  11. Yes it is. When you have 42 other partcipants fighting for the title and one wrong move can be the difference between 1st and 32nd, it can be tough to be consisent. Add 36 races to the schedule, and you have one impressive and tough battle for the championship. With all of today's competive teams it makes it harder. I can only think of 3 drivers that have actually repeated the title consectively. It is just a tough sport.
  12. Can Kenseth repeat? Yes. Will he? Doubt it. His consistency and luck was amazing this year and I doubt he can continue it this year. He was beginning to struggle at the end of the year and I look for that to continue.
  13. Eastman Kodak Company and Penske Performance, Inc. announced that Kodak would sponsor Penske-Jasper Racing Company's #77 Dodge for the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. The companies forged a multi-year agreement for Kodak to be the primary sponsor of the #77 Dodge, which will be driven by Brendan Gaughan. Gaughan, the 2002 "Rookie of the Year" in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, won eight races over two full seasons and finished fourth in the Truck Series point standings in 2003. An Update on the proposed 'Playoff' points change: Drivers and teams have had a month to consider Brian France's proposed twist in NASCAR's championship point system, and there is no great enthusiasm for such a drastic change. But NASCAR is likely to announce the radical changes in the next two weeks, after tweaking a "wild-card" rule for the year's final five races. The top 10 drivers after 26 of the year's 36 races would have their points reset to zero and battle it out for the title - plus a still-to-be-decided "wild card." NASCAR executives want to give NBC more ammunition to use against the NFL this fall. Seven of the last 10 races are on NBC. Six of the sport's last 10 champions wouldn't have won under the proposed new rules. Jimmie Johnson would have won the 2003 title and Kenseth would have finished seventh. Two of the biggest names in NASCAR racing, car owners Robert Yates and Jack Roush, are merging their engine-building operations, in a stunning development for the two long-time rivals. The move comes, Roush said, to meet the challenge of a tremendous influx of European Formula One technology into stock-car racing over the past 18 months and the pending Toyota challenge. At the moment, the Roush-Yates merger involves only engine technology, but sources said that the opportunity is now there for much tighter work between the two Ford camps - Yates, with drivers Dale Jarrett and Elliott Sadler, and Roush, with drivers Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle. Cool Helmet: Brendan Gaughan will wear a special helmet in the Daytona 500. It was signed by an Army unit stationed at the Baghdad (Iraq) Airport. "We got the second guy who interrogated Sadaam Hussein on here," Gaughan said. "I've been given permission to wear it in the Daytona 500, so this is it. I've got to support the troops From Jayski.com and other sources

  15. Things are suppose to stay the same since his son, J.D., was the president of the teams. The current management teams will stay in place and so will the current teams. The only thing taht will change is that Joe probably wont be at the track except for the start of the season.
  16. Believe it or not, it is only 41 days till the green flag waves for the Daytona 500 and testing has already started. Testing started today and will continue through next weekend. Testing will last through Thursday for the cars that finshed in the odd number points position last year. Here are the speeds for the first day of testing: 1. 17. These quotes can go to both of Cloudland's basketball teams. There is no doubt that both Smith and Birchfield have lost their teams. With rumors about Birchfield already in the air, it may not be long until Smith's future is in doubt. I like both Smith and Birchfield, but it is becoming obvious that their players dont respect them. The next few weeks will be cruical in Cloudland athletics. Both have done great jobs, dont get me wrong, but a coach has to be in control at all times and it seems like the players are in control more then the coaches. It will be interesting to watch the next few weeks.
  18. I think anyone can win the NFC right now. I hate to say this because I dont want to jinx the Panthers but they have a great shot if they can get pass Dallas this week. They should have beat Philly in the regular season but Kasey missed 10 points and they lost by 5, but like I said anyone can win the NFC if they put together a strong run!
  19. I personally think that Stephen Davis of Carolina should get alittle attention. He has had an incredible year even missing 2 games. He has had around 1900 all purpose yards (give or take a few) and is a key reason Carolina is in the playoffs.
  20. Goldenboy, you got your wish! What an incredible ending. It is ashame that Minnesota's season ended on what seems to be a questionable call. The Cardinals had not scored a touchdown with 2 minutes left in a half all year long until today. Just an incredible game!
  21. With Tuesday night's loss to Daniel Boone, the Lady Landers are sitting 3-3. With Cosby looming for Friday, the road is going to tough. Will they finsh above .500? In my opinion, they have the talent to be a dominant team. With only one player scoring points in the first quarter last night something seems to be wrong. Is it a bad case of ME ball or something else? Meow, Flossie, or anyone close to the program can you give us some insight Also, does anyone know if the Landers are participating in a Christmas Tourney?
  22. Great racing, Great action. Did anyone else see the truck finally? That was such a tremendous battle. That should silence the critics of the points system.
  23. The track looks great and will hopfully provide some great racing. Any racing is an improvement over the old format!
  24. Elliott wins at the Rock: #9-Bill Elliott wins the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 at North Carolina Speedway after starting from the rear [because of an engine change after Friday's practice], led halfway and led the most laps [140], it was Elliott's 44th career win [think this will quiet the retirement talk?]. #48-Jimmie Johnson ended up 2nd, followed by #19-Jeremy Mayfield, #17-Matt Kenseth [clinches the 2003 Winston Cup Championship] and #12-Ryan Newman [the pole sitter]. #74-Tony Raines, who started 4th, finished 6th, his first ever top 10 in an unsponsored car. TOP FIVE [unofficial] DRIVERS POINTS after Rockingham: #17-Matt Kenseth, 4988 [CLINCHES the Championship] #48-Jimmie Johnson, 4762, -226 #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr., 4724, -264 #12-Ryan Newman, 4659, -329 #24-Jeff Gordon, 4625, -363 Didja Know? With #17-Matt Kenseth winning the Winston Cup Championship, he was only the 4th driver in the modern era [1972-present] to win the Championship in a Ford. The others: Bill Elliott [1988], Alan Kulwicki [1992] and Dale Jarrett [1999]. Trucks testing today at Homestead, hear there was some rain that delayed the start but that the "cts/ctsnews.htm" are doing some testing with the highest unofficial speeds being around 166.000mph, the Winston Cup Qualifying record on the old layout was 156.440mph.(11-10-2003) Buckshot at Homestead in the #00? No it will be Mike Skinner: on "http://www.michaelwaltrip.com", they have a webcam, on it is the #00 Bacardi Chevy, not sure if Buckshot Jones will drive this car at Homestead or if it will run, if I hear anything, it will be posted. UPDATE: Mike Skinner will drive Michael Waltrip's #00 Bacardi Chevy at Homestead.(11-10-2003) Green in the #43 in 2004? Raines expects to stay with BACE: Rookie Tony Raines, running with the under-sponsored Bace Motorsports team, managed his best finish of the year, a seventh place after qualifying fourth. Speculation has run hot regarding Raines' future, and he has been linked to rides with top owners. But Raines said he had had no offers and hoped to continue with Bace. "The racing industry is a funny sport, because when you're up, they want to talk to you, and when you're down, you can't even bum a cigarette," Raines said. "To do more with less is what we've been doing all year, and hopefully we can get more sponsorship and ramp up our program." Roush the 2nd to win all three: #17 team owner, Jack Roush became only the second NASCAR team owner to win championships in all three national divisions - Winston Cup, Busch, and Craftsman Truck. Roush driver Greg Biffle won the Busch title last season, and the truck crown in 2000. Richard Childress Racing has also hit the trifecta, scoring six Winston Cup titles with the late Dale Earnhardt, a truck title with Mike Skinner in 1995, and a Busch championship with Kevin Harvick in 2001 BP's Father Ill UPDATE 3: Benny Parsons was not on the broadcast team Monday at Atlanta as he was home with his father Harold who was feeling under the weather, get well HP.(10-27-2003) UPDATE: Benny and Phil's father, Harold Parsons had a massive stoke Sunday morning [Oct 26th] and remains in ICU at Wiston-Salem Hospital Forsythe in NC. Sadler

Besides this lastest string of wrecks, Elliott hasn't had that many wrecks. He is a good driver with some real bad luck this season. He has had several decent runs and finshes in sight but then he has trouble which some is not his own making.
