  1. Oh No! Not Turkish mud wrestling again!!!!
  2. Poor 'Ette! I thought my computer had went nuts when I opended this thread and saw nothing in it. Glad I am not the only one who saw it thumb
  3. Minor League Baseball is great enteratinment. Hopefully, most communites have a team to pull for. Jackson should do everything to keep a team.
  4. This is a great site. One of the best in the nation in my opinion. I know of a few sites for NC football and they have some cool features I would love to see here. But as a whole this site is 10 times better/
  5. Great ERA! And it is all so true!
  6. The weekend was great. The motto for everyone was "It's Bristol< Baby!'. Great racing, Unreal Atmosphere (better then UT Football), and the south's largest tailgate party made for a great race week. The transporter parade Thursday night was really cool and very unique. 80,000 Wednesday (Very Large for a truck race), 140,000 Friday Night (Almost record breaking for Busch), and 160,000 for Cup were very impressive numbers. Bristol embraced them and received alot of money for it. State Street was closed Thursday night for Food City Family Race Night and it was a huge sucess. It is unlike any event in the country. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and future races at Bristol!
  7. West Tennessee has most likely missed out on a cup date. Nashville has a great superspeedway but it came at a bad time. 5 years earlier and we would have been running a cup race there. Bristol is a unique animal. To those who have never been to Bristol or a Cup race period, Bristol is teh one to go to. Take your local short track, add 36 degrees of banking, 43 of the world best drivers and stands to the sky all the way around. Incredible! The noise is unbelievable. I have seen where the noise registered somewhere in the 100 range decibel rating. The best comparsion to driving around that place is like flying fighter jets in gymnasium. Just Wild!
  8. The Bristol Area is getting ready for the biggest event in the region maybe even the state! The Bristol Night Race is this coming weekend turning the area around Bristol Motor Speedway into a giant tailgate party. 100's of RVs and Campers were in line for the campgrounds for the weekends races. The races start Wednesday Night and go through Saturday night which is the biggest event. Estimates for Friday's race is around 125,000 and Saturday's is 160,000+. This is the hottest event in NASCAR and one of the hardest tickets to get in sports. Of course I will be one of the fans there and will anyone else from Coacht be there? My other questions: 1. How many people across the state knew about this event and the regional impact? 2. Can you think of any other sporting event will this draw across the state? Other event that is bigger?
  9. How is Coach Keith and when will be he back? Also who was in charge of the team when he was gone?
  10. Dale Jr. was involved in a fiery crash in Sonoma, Calfornia while warming up for a American Le Mans Race. He spent the night in a local hospital. He did not practice or qualify the #8 car on in New Hampshire today. He will start the race but give the seat up to Busch sensation and Chance 2 driver Martin Truex Jr. Truex did qualify Juniors car but due to Junior starting the race the #8 will have to start last.
  11. There are some veerrryyyyy strange vibes in this thread!
  12. Yesterday's stage win was just amazing. Lance defintely deserves the overall win. The Tour de France is one of the toughest things to do in sports in my opinion.
  13. I went to two back to back Nascar weekends in Charlotte in May with 2 races at Hickory with the Nextel Cup races. (trnbrant, that tour is awesome did you get to look at any of the race shops while you were there?) Then the Friday after the Coca-Cola 600 I left for Myrtle Beach for alittle over a week. Then I enjoyed the first weekend home since the end of April after I got back. Then I have been busy doing odd stuff. I think we may go to the beach or Pigeon Forge 1 more time and I do have a few more races.
  14. KevB, How did you like the Asheville area? I really love Asheville and that area. I have spent alot of time over there. By the way where is Robjim and why didnt he respond to the Queen?
  15. FHSRebel and GB, You two are almost sad! Good Luck FHSRebel!
  16. Wow! A great first half of the NASCAR season is over. We had everything we could have bargained for and more! Conterversy, great competition, parity, young guns and the wiley vets winning, and a few fan favorite wins. As we have 10 races until the chase for the championship begins, the contenders have been set. Now as we start the crucial 2nd part of the year starting at Daytona (qualfying as I type) the 400 point margain or top 10 looms for several top teams. Top 5 performances of the First Half 1. Jimmie Johnson Coca-Cola 600 (Charlotte) leading 500 miles of a 600 mile race isnt to bad. The strongest car I have ever seen. Lapping at one point all but 8 cars is really good too. 2. Morgan Shepard (Martinsville)- Overlooked as the best run by a field filler, the old-timer lasted 500 laps at a tough old track only losing 7-10 laps. 3. Kasey Khane Samsung 500 (Texas)- The most dominate car all day only to get beat by less then a foot. Kasey dominated the race. 4. Jimmie Johnson Pocono 500 (Pocono)- Johnson's team had their act together again for another dominate effort. It was however about destroyed by a bad descion by NASCAR. 5. Jeff Gordon Save Mart 350 (Sears Point)- Hardly challenged all day and only gave the lead up when pitting. Just dominate. Notable Drivers out of the Chase as of 7/1/04 Dale Jarrett Jamie McMurray Kasey Kahne Jeremy Mayfield Rusty Wallace Mark Martin
  17. Do you think Tony Stewart should have been suspended for his actions after Sears Point?
  18. Very!!!! The people of Roan Mountain and surronding areas have a strange dialect that other mountainfolk have created. It varies by community to community or even family to family. So my point is we use words that only people in this area use. Same way with cooking, story telling, crafts and alot more. It is quite a change in culture 50 miles from here.
  19. The Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, NC will have its first campers arrive Sunday. For those who do not know alot about it, here are links for some more information: http://www.thatsracin.com/mld/thatsracin/8921019.htm http://www.victoryjunction.org/vj/index/home This camp is a remarkable project. The concept, how the money was raised, and the dedication to it is unreal. To provide a summer camp for terminally ill children and to provide it free of cost is such a great thing. The cost to build was 24 million and the cost to run year to year is going to be about 2-3 million a year. The camp will accomdate about 75 & 80% for children from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Eastern Tennessee(not for sure where that line is drawn). The rest of the space is for the children all over the country. I hope the support for it continues (I know it will) and maybe expand.
  20. The Penske boxes (Nweman and Wallace) are the top 2. This is not average. There are a few that may be that much but only 6-10 teams tops. Most teams have 1 tv, a recorder, and a satellite receiver. This is not a teams top cost either. This is a one time cost. The bigger costs are the day to day as well as the weekend to weekend costs. It costs anywhere from $250,000-$500,000 to run one race weekend. 36 race weekends a year plus 2 non points events then throw in testing. That is not even counting the extra stuff at the shop. One major cost is engine research. They work everyday to produce more rpms and right now they are at 10,000 rpms. Consider your passenger car probably redlines way before 10,000 and wouldnt last hundred miles, teams last 500-600 miles. Another is the cars themselves. A rolling chassis, all the bodywork, all the NASCAR mandated stuff adds up to (For those who do not know alot about NASCAR, they actually build the cars, they do not get them from a showroom floor). Their are so many costs right now and I would say the pit box is one of the smallest.
  21. While touring the pits sunday at the Coca Cola 600, I saw Ryan Newman's Pit cart for the pit crew. It was incredible with all the stuff. When I get pictures back i will try to post them. I did do some research and here is an article I managed to find. http://www.thatsracin.com/mld/thatsracin/8800910.htm
  22. Hope everyone is safe! I was not at my house last night so I dont know what went on up there but I am thinking 'Ette may be able to inform us. I am an hour and a half from charlotte and all we got was a few gusty winds with rain and lightening.
  23. Anyone have interesting plans this weekend? Are cookouts, golfing, hanging at lakes, or working on anyones agendas? I am about an hour to 2 hours outside Charlotte now since I will be attending the Coca Cola 600 Sunday to complete another weekend of racing. We have pit passes and great seats and with 90 degree weather in the sun it should be fun. I went to last weekends all star race and didnt get back early sunday morning for a Saturday night race so I am hoping to be home earlier this weekend.
  24. They are not paid enough. I believe I saw on here a calculation of what they should be paid by hour for their services. That really put it all in perspective for me.
