  1. Fundamentals (right hand/left hand dribbling, jump stops, pivots, passes, etc.) can not be fixed 15-20 minutes a day in practice. By the time a player reaches h.s. they need to be sound. If a h.s. team has a 9th grade team they can work on them more so. However, it takes more than in season & 3 weeks of summer camp to make them complete ball players so I will have to disagree with you redraider32. The other factors (size & experience) contribute alot too. If you have a very small & young team (playing at least a full year against varsity competition) it is going to be rough for a while.

Hey PHargis, how about not assuming any scores. Doesn't make you look very knowledgeable. 32-29 at half WCHS. The 1-3-1 WC used in the 3rd quarter affected IHS & WC got some big buckets off of the offensive boards to push the lead to 10 going into the 4th. Also look at your own post, "except for the last 3 games in the 1st half and the 2nd half..." Isn't that most of their games? Don't 2 halfs make 1 complete game? Seriously, unless you attend the game(s) themselves, please try to refraiin from generalizations.
  3. Don't get all wild its just a joke, but...Are any of the apartments used by former player families up for auction too? Sorry, but it was there. Seriously, good luck on the auction.
  4. My dad started at center & safety at about 150-160 lbs. Class of '59 He told me that he got his first single-bar face mask as a senior. I thought it was something in the late 80's (Class of '88) that Bike air compression helmets came onto the scene. I was so happy to give up, at first my old suspension helmet & then as a sophmore the Riddell with the "single squares" pads on the inside. Oh yeah, our kicker used the cleat with the block toe. He started guard for us.
  5. Player...Junior year in the Class M (Medium size) Football State title game in December of 1986. Stratford HS (my team) gave up only 4 touchdowns all year. We got beat 12-6 against Ledyard HS on a 1/2 back pass for a TD & a blocked punt return for 6. Coaching...Tullahoma blocked a field goal right before halftime & returned it for 6 in the Coffee Pot game against Coffee County in the Fall of 1997. That was pretty much the margin of victory (25-17) for the Cats. UCONN losing in the NCAA Basketball regionals vs. Mississippi State in Rupp Arena in 1995. I was there in all of my UCONN gear stuck behind Miss. State fans. Their loss to Florida in '94 & to George Mason a few years back in the Elite 8's both were tough to take as well.
  6. Congrats Coach Maxwell, Good luck in M'boro, you'll do well. Thanks for believing in me & by doing so allowing me to change up things professionally. I hoped I helped you on your way too. CJ
  7. What D-1 player did Scroggins have? All were pre-Scroggins as far as I know.
  8. Marshall CO is AA & is 21-4 & will probably go to the states. No shame there. CC has beaten Cannon, Warren, Tullahoma, Lincoln Co, Moore Co -1A. So what are you arguing there? Next, football finished 2nd this year, & has been in their regions top 4 at least 3 times under Price. CC's football region is not as strong as it's neighbors in 5A, where as girls hoops dist. 8-3A is loaded with strong teams so Coach Scroggins scheduling is pretty good to get the team non-dist. wins. What is your fix Ladynred...besides getting rid of the coach? If its X's and O's I'd love to hear (read) it.
  9. Ladynred starts this up about every year. CC doesn't have the horses to run the District 8-3A race & hasn't for years. Yes some very good players have come through in the past 15 years since the '93 title team, but I believe they haven't finished any higher than 2nd (95-96) since then. It can't be coaching because Donaldson, Crabtree, & Tipps, all had D-1 signees after '93 & they still had to battle & scratch to finish 3rd or 4th in the district. For CC to play tough the Shelbyvilles & Lawrence Co's etc. with the size & the numbers they have? I think Coach Scroggins is doing pretty well. If only he played in a district that was as conducive to his players talents as its is for CC football then the community would sing his praises.
  10. You could go 840 to I-24 right to Winchester or you can go through Shelbyville (41A) Tullahoma to Winchester.
  11. I saw THS girls in the Kiwanis Tourney in Manchester this year. Although they lost both games I felt like they are playing well, even with their youth & injuries. CC players also complemented them to me (former asst. coach there) telling how THS has improved. They moved the ball well & created good shots against Independence (present asst. coach) THS plays in a very fundamentally strong & physical district. Give them time, THS will improve & compete greater in a season or two. Good Luck
  12. You know what they say about "ifs" "If my aunt had pelotas she'd be my uncle"
  13. Word on the street is that the Greeneville boys backed out last week. I hope they can fill the spot at such a late notice.
  14. Just a few comments...1) I believe that Lone Oak HS is 1A (at least it was tiny when I went to EKU) 2) KY boys aren't brought up with the pigskin put in their crib, they get a roundball & a hoop put up about anywhere possible. 3) Apples & oranges in comparison. The wins & losses are cyclical in nature, meaning there are up & down years, injuries, scheduling etc. BTW... TN I feel is better overall (a lot more teams too) but not too many TN squads ever venture up to Northern KY to take on those schools who play the Cincinnati-Ohio brand type of football. Then again not to many of them come down to TN. It would be interesting to create a week zero or one - top 5 vs. top 5 little classic, since most of the same 10-12 teams from both states are usually represented consistantly year in & out in their respective polls.
  15. Great game. IHS's Jaclissa Haislip banks in a 25ft. 3 pointer to defeat Columbia at the horn 55-54. Columbia fought back from being down 9 points at halftime & at one time led by 5 points in the last 2 minutes. Lateria Owens saddled with 2 early fouls, came alive in the 2nd half & finished with 22 for Columbia. Haislip also had 22. Kiara Clay for IHS had 17.
  16. Both teams beat the teams they should have beaten WHEN the games were played. So what if FHS lost to RHS & BHS. So what if INDY lost to FHS & was tested by CHS. Both teams are not even close to what those games represented. Who knows how to gauge the Dickson games. Anyway...all that schedule stuff, who beat who & by how much should be thrown out of the mix for this week. I still feel that INDY has a few more intangables as well as homw field to win. Look for a high teens to low teens final.
  17. Both sides game plans should be...1) stacking the box taking away both teams backs. Probably can't stop either but slow them, punish & wrap up/gang tackle every play up the gut & off tackle. 2) keep both qbs in the pocket to take away scramble/run option. 3) trickeration...expect it. A huge special teams play or a turnover to set up a short field is where I believe the game will be decided. I think INDY in this one...at home, redemption of a little lost pride from the 1st meeting.
  18. A couple of things here J.A....1) 1 team advancing out of 4 doesn't make the entire region better. Think NCAA Tourney. If the SEC or ACC etc have 6 teams in and 5 lose in round 1 what does that say for the conference? Last year 5-5A was better in the head to head match-ups with 6-5A when the chips were down. RHS was the best team in the two regions. 2) Look at my location, I'm not from Gallatin, I'm just a ex-coach but still a big fan who teaches in region 6-5A.
  19. What post did IHS lose? I thought they only graduated 3 guards.
  20. As a social historian I will correct you, I hope no offense is taken...Crips & Bloods originated from South Central LA, Carson, Compton, Watts. Anyway to stay on the thread subject...What if each state could put their best 30 (11 O & 11 D, P,K, situationals) on the field? Can a winner be determined, would there be blow-outs, where would TN finish a team like that went head to head with each state? (49 games)
  21. 96-97 season CC beat Lebanon 97-98 season...CC beat Oakland & Smyrna
  22. No it does not, I was just showing the earlier poster the other side of the argument that he made. I probably should have made my scenario a little clearer.
  23. Even though I live in TN, this post is quite amusing. USC & Clemson at 1A have been even with UT/Vandy/Memphis during the last several years. 1AA is no comparison Furman, Wofford are hands down better than UTC, Tech, Peay, Martin, & TSU. UT carries this state & even they have been living off of that Natl. Champs carcass for about 10 years now. USC beat them at Neyland in '05. Whats next...just because UT hoops beat UK does that mean that TN is a better hoops state. Think before posting buddy.
  24. 5A (or in your case if it was my US History class - 5D) I won't be able to make it in tonight for the game, text me the final. Good luck.
