  1. What is lost in this debate is the fact that there are certainly some outstanding young ladies that are worthy of consideration for Ms. Basketball. Most of these ladies that have been mentioned have formed great relationships thru AAU, or in competition with or against each other. Someone will receive the award. Congrats to those who will be finalists or nominated. Many who get on the board have their favorite player. Kudos to you for following the girls game. I would just like to offer caution to make sure that these posts are positive toward your favorite player, but not in a way as to be negative to those that are not your (anyones) personal pick for this award. All are outstanding players as well as ladies and should be treated as such. Yes, Ms. Lyons plays at Greenville, and yes she played for the stars in AAU, but DID NOT come off the bench behind Cait. Megan primarily played the 2 guard, but sometimes played point as well. I am in no way suggesting that your post was negative about any player, but I wanted to correct you about the comment w/ Ms. Lyons & Ms. McMahan. But some other posters in this thread IMO have sometimes been a little derogatory in their view.
  2. Congratulations to Cait McMahan who scored her 2000th pt. vs. Bearden last tuesday.
  3. Now Barb, Didn't I say that both teams should have been ranked ahead of Heritage based on December play? I hope that Heritage improves to the point that they could host a sub-state game. Nothing like playing at home. I am sure you will agree. IMAC teams are quality no doubt about it. But I am sure our region will do our best to try and give your reps. a decent match.
  4. I tried to explain this on another thread. Polls are just that...POLLS!! (opinions) I am a Heritage fan. Yes, both Greenville and Jeff. Co beat Heritage in the Greene County classic. Now, I think if you ask both Coach Burkey, and Coach Potts if they beat Heritage "soundly", I think they would say no. .. Do both schools deserve to be ranked higher than Heritage based on those wins in December?...Yes. Thank goodness we are not D-1 football. All of these questions and debate will be answered in Regional, sub-state, and State tourney play. Remember, 2 teams that aren't" ranked" (Powell and Craigmont) went to the show last year. They along with other quality teams across the state will be forces to deal with as the season goes along. Best of luck to all these quality teams this year.
  5. Relax Jeff.Co. and Greenville fans!!! I am a Heritage fan and I do agree that the polls are not exact. I know that as true fans you are aware that polls are just that... polls(opinions). It gives us something to talk about , and some coaches might use it as bulletin board material. Thank goodness it will all be settled with the Regional tournys unlike the BCS in D-1 football. Two of last years state participants (powell and craigmont) are not even listed in the top ten, but certainly barring injuries will be in the hunt along with other quality teams statewide not yet in the polls. As for option "A" above, I bet that the Heritage girls might use the "one woman show" comment as motivation. Would you agree? Just teasing!! I know the team at Heritage will be working hard for a rematch with one of those fine teams. Best of luck to both Greenville and Jeff. County.
  6. Cutiepie, That is so unlike you!!!.... As you know we have had our debates about two talented guards and we kept it civil. I wish both of them much success in the future. But I do agree with you about the State runners-up not getting much respect. Certainly all AAA teams better respect that team come "boro" time. But don't let the name calling get to you!!...Good luck this year.
  7. Sorry, I meant to reply to this post... Heritage won 59 to 38. Good luck to PF this year. They are a good team and will do well this year.
  8. How did the scrimmage go yesterday verses Heritage? Who looked good for both teams?
  9. I Actually feel silly going back and forth with you on this, but the more you say warrants a corrective response. If you check your book of the game, I think Cait scored 29 or 30 points. Did she do that during half time? Give your coaches more credit. I assume that they had someone guarding her. Be proud of your teams win. I hope that the young lady that you spoke of earlier has a speedy recovery.
  10. As a spectator at the final game Sunday, I find your comments about two fine players disturbing. First I think your comments drip with bitterness. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion about player comparisons, but why do you do this on a public board? Both teams have some great talent. Jessica played very well as did all the other members of the Pride team. They took it to the Stars from the start of the game. I think that if you were to ask Cait and Jessica about each other, they would both be very complimentary of each other. Something that you might learn from them. Congratulations to the Pride team on a great win.
  11. I believe that Brandi Brown, a very fine post player from York is on this team as well.
  12. Oh, by the way Barb, please..."holding Cait to 40" ...give me a break...and I think you must not be serious that she makes no plays on defense. Yes, you won, and congrats, but please do not make any silly comments about her and her game. She was clearly the best girl on the court.
  13. Congratulations to Greenville. As a parent of one of the girls of Heritage, I wish you (along) with Powell the best of success.
  14. Caramel, I am usually a watcher of your posts and am usually very impressed with what I read. However I also know the History of the McMahan vs LaToya Bullard match ups in at least the last two AAU meetings. Please tell me if I am not correct on this. The Showboats beat the Stars twice...I agree on that. But wasn't the scores of the two games within the 3 pt. margin? As far as domination; if you can be factual with your assessment I would hardly think 3 pts in those two games was domination. Yes, i know that Jessie was hurt in the last AAU meeting. If you were at the games, you will agree with me that the best thing that one can say is that there were two very fine teams going at it . Mutual respect was shown by both teams. The match up of Cait verses LaToya was a stand off. Both girls have played with or against each other in state and national tournys. I feel that both girls are extremely talented players. To call one dominant over the other would be a show of a lack of respect for two great girls, both on and off the court. I would feel very confident to start a college team with either. Your opinion is of course yours, but I figured I would express mine.
  15. Switchplay, Powell and Heritage have played two very close games within the past year. Both teams are exceptional. Both teams have mutual respect for each other. If you noticed, most post game comments have been positive about the other team. In fact, a few of the girls on both teams are friends and play summer b-ball together. Question.... Do you play sports in High school? If so, I hope that if you make an outstanding play or two, you will not be called names. Also, I sincerely doubt that Pat Summit will drop a quarter to ask your opinion about Cait or any other of the fine athletes that played in that girls contest Monday. Actually, I will answer my own question...I doubt you play anything because by playing ,values are taught that would keep you from making comments like you did. Good luck Erin & Cait!!
  16. Wrestling is a great sport. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose. Zack Dunn is a very hard working young man. He is not a jerk. Bottom line, he did win the region at 189 didn't he?
  17. Zoo

    Fisher and Williford

Thanks folks for the info. I wish them both success. Both are fine athletes.
  18. Hillsbourgh's Walter Fisher, and Knoxville's Larry Williford were two outstanding high school players. I haven't noticed anything about if or where they signed. If anyone knows any current information...Thanks
  19. SCBBFREAK, OH MY!!! DO YOU HEAR THAT SOUND? COULD IT BE THE SOUND OF THE Heritage GIRLS TEAMS KNEES SHAKING AND THEIR LIVER QUIVERING?? NO I REALLY DON'T THINK SO. JUST 2 GREAT TEAMS IN A VERY STRONG DISTRICT. BOTH TEAMS HAVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER. LOOKING FORWARD TO ROUND 3 EACH HAS WON ON THE OTHER TEAMS FLOOR.
  20. I agree totally with you! We have a situation where we have 4 schools in our county (BLOUNT). Alcoa, Heritage, Maryville, and Wm. Blount. All 4 have played at a very respectable level in girls basketball all year. This year, Heritage girls must have earned the respect of some of the writers in the state as they have been ranked 10th in the A.P. poll the last 2 weeks. They have beaten a very tough Oak Ridge team and Sevier Co. team on their own floor. My Point is: Would you believe our own home town paper has yet to take the time to vote in the poll!! Yes, Polls are just one persons opinion, but lets face it most people look at them. Kudos to all the reporters who take an interest in high school sports in this state.
  21. Angela Puleo from Wm. Blount, and Cassie Hearon from Heritage.
  22. Tonight (Friday Dec. 5th) at Heritage should be a fun game to watch as to good teams play. Any thoughts on the outcome?
  23. Can someone advise me as to the teams, times and dates of the Greenville Thanksgiving Tournament? Thanks
