Actually they play Lipscomb week 4. So the BGA and Boyd comment is incorrect. The Cougars travel to Ezell next Friday.
Also they are sophomores. By definition they will greatly improve by the end of the year. CPA's kicker was the difference in the first half. They had right at 100 yards for the half and 23 points. 66 of those yards came on one play. CPA's ability to kick and Goodpastures lack thereof was a huge difference in the beginning.
Both of these teams will be pretty good teams come week 11.
Actually there talent may be up. They are just all sophomores. CPA is the real deal this year though. This team in my opinion may be better than their 2002 team that won the state.
From the Goodpasture perspective it was a decent scrimmage. After the first drive by MBA after a very short Cougar punt, the defense was pretty stingy. They were able to put some pressure on the QB and I thought looked good defensively outside of a couple of passes. Certainly improved from last season.
The line is all new and while they started slow they seemed to improve throughout the first half. They got off a couple of solid runs in the second quarter. Size wise it wasn't even close. MBA was bigger.
It was one on one's in first half and all backups for both teams in the second half.
I don't think the Cougars will see a team on the 2A level quite like MBA and I guess that's why they play this one. Good luck to MBA this season.
GP is very young this year. I would say over the next couple of years they should be really pretty good especially in '06 but I just think this year may be a building year and a year for a good kid like Patrick to shine. They have a lot of younger guys they will be counting on and I expect a solid team but not great. MBA should win easily.
Goodpasture is going to be too young. I'll go with Huntingdon, Alcoa, or Lipscomb. They are the top three this year.
Tyner, Milan, and Goodpasture would be my next three.
1996 Goodpasture lost in finals to Webb. 14-1 Overall with 2 Mr. Football Guys.
Still considered the best Cougar team ever despite the fact they didn't win it.
