  1. Mr. Drinkwine, I feel your pain. As I am a coach of a high school team with the 2nd largest population in Nashville. It is a struggle because, although we have 3 feeder schools, only one has a wrestling program. The feeder school, John F. Kennedy, which is right up the street for years had a pretty successful program. They sent kids to me with a good wrestling background, and can claim several state placer. Yet the principal is adamant about not having a program. Although, according to him, he is an ex-wrestler. It is great that you guys are starting from the early kids, because as the kids get older. It is all about football and basketball. Not to mention that the football coaches in high school, have absolutely no idea how wrestling will help their teams. If you guys need any help with anything, and I will say time permitting. Shoot me a line. Jerome Dooley Antioch High School
  2. Well a start would be to send these players to WRESTLE!!!!!! Builds character, discipline, heart. Gets them in shape, allows them to understand how to handle their bodies in situations. Yes the teams have been down. But wrestling won a district title last season, with maybe 1 or 2 football players. Also, these kids need to run track, to build speed. I look at the Pearl-Cohns, Maplewoods, McGavocks, Overtons(Metro Schools). Independence, Ravenwood, and a lot of contender in football have their skill players on the track team. Antioch has a way of steering these athletes away from these sports, when in actuality, it will improve their stock to college coaches. Prime examples, Keyshawn Vaughn of PC was a track star and state champion in track. He knew football was the future, but worked hard on the track. Example #2, Leonard Fournette- ran track his senior year in Louisiana, had already signed his LOI. State Champion in 100, 200, 4x1, 4x2.
  3. Congratulations to MLK coach Lindy King. She took a pitiful program to the top of the hill in a few short years.
  4. I'm sure Hamm has been putting one together since brackets were released. With his expertise it takes a few days.

  6. Region 6. District 11- Independence 1st, Summit 2nd. District 12- Antioch 1st, Mcgavock/Overton winner 2nd
  7. Hospitality room rivals Brentwood. Great job!!!!
  8. Wanted to pass the news of the passing of former Maplewood, Tennessee State, and Nashville Storm QB Phellepe Hall. He was killed a couple of nights ago in Nashville.
  9. Cane Ridge keeps athletes and will contend for a playoff spot. They are going to shock some of the Sumner co schools. Their freshman squad crushed everyone in Metro, including Pearl-Cohn. I would not be shocked if they were competing for the region championship along with Hillsboro. Glencliff and Hunters Lane are obviously very bad, and will not any better anytime soon.

  11. Any results from the tournament?
  12. Had a couple of last minute cancelations. If any team is interested in attending. Contact Coach Dooley at jerome.dooley@mnps.org.
  13. Antioch will once again host the annual Antioch Preseason Scuffle on Saturday November 15. Wrestling will begin at 9 am, and run throughout the day. Hydration testing will begin at 6:30 am. Admission is $5.
  14. Brentwood just set their program back another 5 years. Woodward had them going in the right direction. Now the middle school and high school are going to have to learn a new system, which is not good for the ones affected the most, THE KIDS. Woodward is an excellent coach, and when he catches on at his next school, they are going to kick Brentwood's butts.
  15. I deal with TSU on a regular basis. As WIP did state, TSU rarely recruits students from PC, and TSU is in their school zone. But the game could not have been played there, because Hale Stadium does not meet regulations to host a night game. If you notice TSU's schedule, the games played in the Hole are day games. Also, if I am not mistaken, East was the host school and approached Vanderbilt. Which gave them a pretty good deal. I am sure East made a nice amount of money from the game, because Vandy was packed.
  16. If I can get some of these gridiron guys to get better for football on the mat, might be a contender. I have 35 out right now, without football. Because it's Firebird love. LOL
  17. We get upset, because we have a proud tradition at PEARL-COHN. My dad attended Pearl High, which has their own place in history. I can't go around bragging about how Pearl won a state basketball title in the 60's. But I can brag about back to back State Football titles, why, because PEARL-COHN won those. WIP, I also said I love my school, so that is why they will win.
  18. First off. I love my school to death, and to let everyone know, the name is PEARL-COHN. If you want to use PC that is fine. The school is not Pearl. Pearl High closed down in 1982 when it merged with Cohn High to form Pearl-Cohn. Now I read a post that PC has always had a football tradition. Honestly, the first 12 years of existence the records did not show the talent. The first playoff team was in 1995. 1st State Championship in 97. History lesson over. I personally haven't seen either team this season, but because I love my alma mater, Pearl-Cohn will win this game. I also say this because I do know the athletes on both teams, and PC's are far better.
  19. No disrespect, but if White House and Pearl-Cohn get together. Its gonna be ugly for WH. PC is a machine.
  20. KeyShawn Vaughn from Pearl-Cohn hands down is the best back in the State right now. No one has held him under 200 yds this season. That includes MBA.
  21. Not sure where you are located, but Antioch will have a Girls Division at their Preseason Scuffle on Nov. 15th. Also, McGavock runs a Girls Tournament during their tourney, that is in early December and Independence also in late December.
  22. From what I am seeing is that you all saw the score of the game and came with an assumption. In my opinion, Mt. Juliet will have a fight on their hands. The game last week was 7-0 until midway through the 4th, when Antioch decided not to punt, gave CR the short field, and they took advantage. The 3rd TD was almost meaningless because Antioch could not move the ball. The fight will come in the aspect that Antioch's defense is pretty good, and IMO has a lot of athletes flying to the ball. If MJ scores more than 3 TD's, I will be surprised. Downfall is that Antioch can not put the ball in the endzone.
  23. Most wrestlers will wrestle through injuries. That is why you didn't see them walking around on crutches. Toughest SOB's you will ever run into.
