  1. Clay County wasn't very athletic. The Warriors got off to a good start and then kind of coasted like we do sometimes when we get ahead. We stayed up by somewhere around 10 or 12 points for most of the game. Everytime we would get up by 15 or so, they would hit a couple of threes and cut the lead back down. We led by 19 I believe at one time. Kyle Delaney had 21. Aaron Puckett scored 15 and Josh Brown hit four more threes. He had 13 points. Big game tomorrow against Lexington Catholic. I was talking to one of the college scouts up here. He was telling me they are a very solid team. It will be a good experience for our team, win or lose.
  2. not that I am aware of, but if I find out I will let you know. I'm going up.
  3. Can someone tell me where you are finding official Kentucky rankings. I have checked both big newspapers and some recruiting websites and I can't find the results of an official season poll. The only thing I found was the Lexington newspaper's preseason poll. Can't find anything for the season. Been working on this stuff for a story, but I can't even get the information from the people running the tournament. I found all kinds of information on the teams individually and have talked to some college coaches who have helped me out, but can't find a current poll. The one I found was dated early November.
  4. This information is for 85 Warrior. I am providing what he asked for. White County boys basketball has had a total of four coaches since 1958. Roy Sewell coached from 1958 until he retired at the end of the 1994-95 season. He did miss one or two seasons in the late 60's/early 70's when he left to be principal at the middle school. His overall record is 633-352 with a state tournament record of 10-6. Just a note when they were AA, he was still playing and defeating a lot of AAA schools plus the AA teams from the late 70's through the early 80's were very strong. Roy Whited followed Sewell and coached for six seasons with an overall Sparta mark of 169-34. By the way they played the Science Hill, Cleveland (with Vincent Yarbrough), Pearl Cohn (with Ron Slay and John Henderson) just to name some of the competition they faced. They played in a tournament in Arkansas in which a guy by the name of Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) played in as a high school player. Whited was 6-0 in state tournament games. Bruce Slatten followed Whited and coached for three years. His overall record at Sparta was 29-57. Eric Mitchell is starting his fourth year as head coach. Heading into this season, his overall record (at Sparta) is 59-39 coming into this season.
  5. White County had a scrimmage canceled due to a conflict and is looking for a replacement scrimmage for either Friday or Saturday, August 10 or 11. I am posting this for Coach Josh Kerr. If anyone is interested, email me at pistol@spartaexpositor.com and I will give you Coach Kerr's contact information.
  6. In substate games between White County and Bradley Central (boys and girls), White County holds a 4-2 advantage counting this year's loss.
  7. wgns1450.com and when I click on it, it downloads but I can't hear anything. I just found out Riverdale was up 49-41 at the start of the fourth quarter never mind picking it up on cookeville's cable station on television, just the radio broadcast
  8. How come I get the Cookeville Riverdale game on the WGNS internet site. I have been trying forever.
  9. Yes the way it has been done for several years is as follows: district record, head to head, then how you did against the teams in order of how they finished, if there is still a tie, coin toss. If this is still the case which I believe it is, Riverdale gets third by virtue of their win over second seed Blackman since White County was swept by them.
  10. Actually the last team a District 7AAA team went undefeated in regular season was 1998-99. White County did it. They only lost three games all season long, Columbia twice and Bradley Central. A perfect 10-0 in district regular season. It may be the first time since 1996 that an Oakland team has gone undefeated in district regular season.
  11. Hey Football Fanatic. I don't know who you are talking about I am Pistol. I have no reason to hide on here. I have made it known several times through the years on here that I am sportsfanatic. I am not sure who hit a nerve with you on here but it wasn't me. Please leave me out of your arguments.
  12. I also haven't heard Deonte Lindsay for Walker Valley mentioned in any of their articles. He was a speedster last season. is he hurt?
  13. Hard to save timeouts when you are having to call them to rest your players and to keep from taking a player who is cramping terribly.
  14. Everyone keeps talking about the trainer. Up until Tuesday of this week, we didn't have a trainer. They just finally brought Bobbi back in Tuesday. And before anyone starts on the coaches, they have nothing to do with hiring trainers. I can't imagine if we had not had her on the sidelines tonight.
  15. Put the Rutherford county teams together. Move Lebanon in with Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central's district. Put White, Warren, Cookeville, Cumberland, Coffee and either Tullahoma or Rhea County in together. It really should be restructured.
  16. No Coach Lamb is still there. I think they were referring to Eldrige stepping down and got the names wrong.
  17. I realize the number two seed has not been decided yet, but does anyone have any idea of the bracket as far as times. Surely, those have been set with just names to be filled in.
  18. Most people will be surprised that White County's lone district win did come with Killian suffering the loss. He came in with Warren County leading 6-5 with one runner on base. The tying run was charged to the other pitcher, but the two other runs were charged to Killian. Sparta won 8-7.
  19. Columbia and White County girls history is not near as rich as the boys. However, they have played a few times in region tourney action. Columbia upset White County in the 1998 region semifinals when they slowed down the game tremendously. I think Candice Mitchell had 23 of Sparta's 30 points in that game. They also met in the region finals in 1996 I believe and the Rachael Gobble led Columbia team upset White County then. White County went on to the substate that year at Howard and won big and advanced to the state. So yes there is a bit of a history. Kellie graduated in 1995 so she missed out on those two big games. Most of her matchups were against Shelbyville, Coffee County and Franklin County.
  20. Riverdale's win over White County left a tie for two positions. Siegel and Riverdale tied for first. Cookeville and White County tied for third. The two teams split leaving a coin toss. Riverdale and Cookeville won the tosses leaving Riverdale first, Siegel, second, Cookeville third and White County fourth. That means first round looks like this. 4:00 - (1) Riverdale vs. (8) Oakland 5:30 - (2) Siegel vs. (7) Lebanon 7:00 - (3) Cookeville vs. (6) Warren County 8:30 (4) White County vs. (5) Blackman Semifinals - The winner of 1/8 takes on 4/5, the winner of 2/7 takes on 3/6.
  21. Here is some information to clarify things. First of all White County's girls did beat Coffee County in the 1993 region finals. The final was 95-64. I can even give you the individual scoring. Not trying to be sarcastic. I have just been doing a lot of research on the history of White County basketball for my job. The 1994 girls region winner was Shelbvyille who defeated White County 64-61. Between 1990 and 1997, White County and Shelbyville played in the girls finals six of those eight years. Here are the region locations since White County moved up to AAA prior to the 1983-84 season. 1984 - Shelbyville 1985 - Oakland 1986 - Shelbyville 1987 - Murfreesboro not sure which school. 1988 - Shelbyville 1989 - Oakland 1990 - Shelbyville 1991 - Riverdale 1992 - Shelbyville 1993 - White County 1994 - Lawrence County 1995 - Lebanon 1996 - MTSU 1997 - MTSU 1998 - MTSU 1999 - MTSU 2000 - MTSU 2001 - MTSU 2002 - MTSU 2003 - MTSU with first round at higher seed 2004 - MTSU with first round at higher seed 2005 - Blackman with first round at higher seed
  22. White County/Riverdale game is Wednesday instead of Monday. Any ideas why Riverdale canceled the game which was at home for them when all the other Boro teams went on the road despite the weather. Doesn't make any sense to me.
  23. When the freshman district schedule was being planned out, Siegel said they were not going to have a freshman girls team. The WCHS principal wanted our teams to only play games where both teams played. It was not the fault of our coaches or players. They were told that only the boys would be playing a freshman schedule. No one was avoiding anyone.
  24. About the White County game. They called the foul after the shot and White County was in the bonus thus the one and one.
