  1. I totally agree with these posts. I have several friends in coaching and their main complaints about officiating are consistancy and accountability. An official can make a horrible, game changing call that can cause a team to lose a game, miss the play-offs, or cost a coach his job. Yet, the official will continue to sell insurance or mwhatever he does and never think another thing about it. And the next Friday night be back on the field calling games with no repercussions to him. Yet these kids and coaches who have poured a lot of time and energy into a season are at home. This about happened to Jefferson County this year at Science Hill. Horribly called game, but Jeff scored late to win and eventually make the play-offs. I know they say they are unbiased, but they know the reputations of the schools. In my opinion, this is why the Maryvilles and Riverdales always win the close ones.
  2. That is awful about #9. I know he is from a great family, so I know he will rebound. On a brighter note, my first game of the 2007 season was a victory. Not a perfect effort, but a sound region victory. I am afraid that the "Toppers will find many an open receiver. It has been a JCHS problem for years, stopping the pass. Good luck to the boys, we will be there cheering you on. PS I thought the celebration for the 1987 team was great. I saw a lot of greats back at home.
  3. I just heard through the grapevine that the 1987 stat championship team will be honored at the game. Anyone know if this is the case? It will be very special for the current players see the "Patriot Ghost" of the past.
  4. My suggested Top 5 spots that all must visit: 1. Napa Valley, CA 2. Lake Tahoe, CA 3. Grand Canyon 4. Anywhere in Montana 5. Niagra Falls Just my opinion, but we have the most beautiful country in the world. I love to visit all these places, but there is no place like Jefferson County, TN...God's country. GO PATS!!
  5. Is it possible for both of these teams to lose. Really, I just do not see East winning because of Don Woods.
  6. Man, it is good to be back in Tennessee. I have been all over this great country of ours, and I am finally going to get to see Coach Gut in action. I have been kept up to date by DZ through the paper (best job since the "Big Scoop" was writing). I think Jeff will be able to stop those pesky Beavers and win going away. Go Pats!! Bye the way, well put Heath Helton in the previous post.
  7. Too bad he is not at Knox Central or Powell. Then he could use the Cruze defense of "it was not mine, it was my friend's" and get out of it. Nevertheless, I am sure he could find a way to play for Fulton, they get everyone eligible.
  8. Sorry not to join in the debate, but I think another Region 3-AAAA may be the best. Jake Ryan of Knox West is a really good QB with great receivers. He will put up huge numbers this year, if his coach doesn't leave for God's country in Jeff. Co.
  9. I am sure I do not speak for all of Patriot Nation, and I am sure Jeff Minor is a great guy. But it will be a cold day in Haiti before we hire a coach from Oak Ridge. Remember 51-0, i know you do!!
  10. While no one can or will be perfect, I have watched games all over Knoxville this year and must agree. The refs are getting worse every year. THe problem is that there is absolutely no accountability or attempts to get better. A guy can totally screw up a game on Tuesday and be calling another game Wednesday. At least in the college and pro games there are reprecussions for poor performance. I know people (mostly other officials) get on here and defend the officials by saying there are not enough for games, but this is wrong. It is really bad in basketball, and other sports are catching up quickly. The TSSAA needs to do something to address these problems soon.
  11. It also allows for coaches to see their needs and go recruit to fill that need!
  12. You are right. Joe and Kenny were both great backs. Joe hurt his knee in the second quarter of the Oak Ridge game his senior year (1st game of the year). He later went on to Appy State and played there for a couple of years before another injury. I think he finished his career at Carson-Newman. Joe is now a police officer in Jefferson City. He probably would have been the best running back in JCHS history had he not been injured. He had already rushed for over 120 yards and 2 TDs that night. Kenny went on to play at MTSU. They switched him to defensive back, but I don't think he got much playing time. I do know that he blocked 5 punts in a season while there. Last time I saw Kenny was 6 years ago. He was living and working somewhere in Morristown. Both of these guys are super great people and were great high school running backs.
  13. All I can say is Good Luck and Godspeed, Halls. The Maryville machine is primed and ready. As for the Bobcats, they are good, but not near good enough.
  14. A couple of rules on the high school level that I would like to see changed are the cut block and the ability to come out of the endzone. I think cut blocking should be allowed all over the field like the college rule. Not from behind, but face to face. I believe this would open the game up some. I know the arguement that it will increase injuries, but I disagree. Secondly, with the number of kickers who can kick the ball into the endzone on the rise, I think the kids should be allowed to return the ball. Same on an interception. What do you think?
  15. Prophet is not correct. The block he described is a cut block, which is legal between the tackles by people who at the time the ball is snapped are in the "free blocking zone" (a four yard box around the ball). Cut blocks are legal all over the field in college and pro football, but only in the box in high school unless first contact is above the waist. A chop block is a high-low double team and is illegal at all levels of football. So there is a difference between a cut and a chop.
  16. I too see the Pats winning this one at home. Like Crystal5 said, the Beavers are playing like the possums. They are tough at home but get "run-over" on the road. Hope to see you all at the homecoming game. Lets make some noise.
  17. Yeah, right. And Jeff. Co. was better than Dobyns-Bennett!!
  18. Is the same PA announcer there at Jefferson County that has done it for so many years? We haven't been there in a while and I was just curious. Can't be as good as the smooth voice at DB... JC4life needs to get a life. Oak Ridge will be superior physically, but you never know about high school kids. The last time Stevens came to Dumplin Valley, he went home with a 51-0 butt whipping. He might try to make it all up in one night. Regretfully, the long time PA announcer, R.T. Felknor, passed away recently. I know he was not the greatest, but he is missed terribly by the community. Go Patriots!!!
  19. Best of luck to Coach Euverard and the Pats from Dumplin Valley. West looked really good Friday versus Swain. From what I saw of the Farragut scrimmage, Jeff. Co. has a pretty good defense and will play with a lot of heart.
  20. Anybody out there in T land know what time this show airs tonight?
  21. Hey BIGR35! If you are going to get on here and tell people what they need to work on, you might want to consider working on your English grammer and/or typing skills!! Even though I hate to say it, West is pretty darn good this year.
  22. Simmer down on the Brandon Warren issue. He is just getting prepared to be a crimiNOLE!! Maryville by 7.
  23. Watched Soddy play this weekend in Murfreesboro and they are solid. Waters slings it and they hit the ball. The only weakness I see is the right fielder who cannot hit her way out of a paper bag. Soddy is too strong for Ooltewah.
  24. I hope Nebraska never wins another game. After firing Frank Solich after he won over 75% of his games is rediculous. I also disagree with the direction of the program. Callahan has never been able to maintain a program. He rode Gruden's team to the Super Bowl an then let them fall completely apart. i know the NFL is a different animal, but i think a lot of the same things will happen in Lincoln.
