  1. Sorry Govman, I guess I meant peace!!!!!
  2. Coach Meadows has coached at Sequoyah for 2 years, then had the opportunity to go to Alcoa (who does not make that move?). Then he was offered a position at Tennessee and a chance to get on the college level. He did not like being away from home, so he returned to high school. Now, he has an opportunity to go back to Blount County where his wife wants to be. Any man makes this move if he wishes to have piece at home.
  3. Who is going to be his coach? We are all waiting, WB?
  4. I would beg to differ about the stats. 1-9 does not start you off too well in the stat department.
  5. Ela is the man with the knowledge!! Thanks for the info and I hope Coach Rewis knows what he getting himself into!
  6. Passinggame, you must be on crack. Nick White is a good coach, but to hire him over a proven winner like Meadows would be just another idiot move by the blount Co. system. Meadows, even though I want him to stay at Jeff. Co., is a proven winner. He will keep the kids at Blount who now wear the Red and Black. Nick White, I am afraid, would not be able to stem GQ's tide of talent. Who have you heard is on South-Doyle's list?
  7. Very good point. I like the fact they play a tough schedule and have been fairly competitive against these teams. It has been at least 4 years since they have beaten a Sevier Co. team and at least 3 years since they beat someone they were not superior to in talent. Lost a game Tuesday because of six players on the court after a timeout?
  8. Jefferson Co. has a very strong tradition in girls basketball, but I have noticed a drop off the past couple of years. What are some of the thoughts out there as to why this is happening?
  9. Student athletes have a four year period in high school in which they can play whatever sport they want. I have seen coaches, particularly basketball and baseball coaches encourage their athletes to participate in fall and summer leagues which take some good football players away. What I really hate is that some high school coaches tell their players that playing in these leagues is the only way they can get a scholarship. Let the kids be kids.
  10. Wolke played QB at Sparta I believe. To my knowledge, Jefferson Co. does not have a kicking coach. And by the way we kick, I think the only D-I school that would hire him is Kentucky.
  11. I heard yesterday on SportsTalk that Wolke had accepted an offer to play at ND without even visiting? Any truth to this?
  12. Was this a varsity or JV game? A student should not be running the clock or keeping the official book during a varsity game. It puts that student in an unfair position. However, with the insane number of JV and freshman games that are scheduled by coaches, it is difficult to find adults to work all these games. I do not see the wrong in allowing students to work JV and freshman games.
  13. Coach Clark is a great coach and should do a great job with our all-stars. After all, the game is played in June, not in late November!!
  14. I think you look for experience, but that should not be the only factor. The main thing is that the school's administration feels comfortable with the coach's ability to run a program, and the coach feels supported by school. I do not think a coach necassarily needs head coaching experience, but they should have at least been a coordinator. I also do not think length of tenure should be a question. Change is good in most situations and coaching is no different.
  15. Officiating in the TSSAA is horrible, regardless of what sport you are watching. The officials in football this past year was awful, and I have seen four or five games in b-ball that have been totally inept. Baseball, lets not even go there!
  16. I agree with whatever Maryville does because they win. No doubt a team that can run the ball effectively can dominate and control a game. However, a team that throws well can score in a hurry.
  17. I also think the ratio is dependent on the head coach and his philosophy. If your head coach is a defensive coach, he most likely wants the team to run the ball and condense the game. Also reduces the chances of turnovers. If the head coach is an offensive minded coach, the ball may be in the air more. I really believe successful coaches play to their talent.
  18. I totally agree with you Ela. Too often I talk to coaches who are insistent on one set mode of operation. Those who can adjust to talent are the ones who stay in the game a long time.
  19. I think this is a per case issue. For instance, Coach Craig Kisabeth retired from coaching at JCHS before he was 50. He had been a head coach for 20 years and had gotten to where he did not enjoy coaching anymore. I think as long as a coach is enjoying himself and the program he is leading is successful, there is no age limit. I hear people talk about Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno and how the game has passed them by, but football is still the same game with the same fundamentals of blocking and tackling as it was when these coaches were young. I do think if a coach is going to stay in coaching at an advanced age he must be willing to change with the players he is leading. Coach Wooden proved this many years ago that flexability of the coach's thinking leads to success.
  20. Do you know the names of the three finalists? By the way Govman, I think you are one of the best posters on CoachT. Very insightful and extremely loyal to the Govs.
  21. As an avid football fan, I would definitely say the passing game is very exciting, but to win you must be able to run and stop the run. I think the run-pass ratio depends a lot on personnel. For instance, Dobyns-Bennett was a run oriented offense a few years ago, but now that they have Durren Ferguson and Lamon Williams, they seem to throw a little more. Just an example of adjusting to the talent you have in your program, which good coaches like Graham Clark do every year at the high school level.
  22. Haven't heard much out of Blount County all week? Any news coming out of Heritage or WB? When are they going to name their respective coaches?
  23. tallanted athletes and great kids but Weathers does not always go for that. Either you were one of those mentioned above or he didn't hand pick you. Don't cry over spilled milk. Easy Bill#49, it is widely known that many players ended up at Red Bank from other parts of town. In my opinion, nothing is wrong with that. Weathers is an excellent coach (and recruiter) and he will do a great job leading Soddy to its tradiotion 4th place finish in a very tough Region 2AAAAA.
  24. I have been a follower of Jefferson Co. athletics for many years and I cannot remember the last time the basketball team was ranked in the AP state top 10. Maybe in the early 80s with Steve Peck. Anyone out there in Patriotland know when it was? Congrats to Coach Rick Sinard and his boys.
