  1. Humboldt can get in with a win along with a Crockett Co. win. Harpeth can get in with a win in week ten and loss by Sweetwater and Marion. Cannon is long shot as well as Adamsville. Looks like CPA will go west if Humboldt doesn't make it as well as Harpeth. If neither make it Goodpasture goes west also. We will have a rematch of week ten for CPA and Goodpasture in first round if they both go west and Goodpasture wins in week ten. A CPA win in week ten could setup a quarter final rematch. Best hope for west is for Humboldt to win along with a win by Crockett Co. and a Harpeth win. One other thing that could help the west would be a Huntingdon loss to Adamsville along with Humboldt win and Crockett win. This would send all privates to the east. It would also keep Huntingdon in quadrant 3. Best solution is to scrape the whole plan and have it cut and dried before you start. (ain't gonna happen) Quadrant four is almost final waiting on Humboldt to join if it works out or Huntingdon to be the swing team. Quadrant 2 will lose their number one seed to quadrant 1 due to travel and the addition of DCA. Might get split up even more if the west pulls off the wildcards. Quadrant one doesn't matter-"Alcoa" will be the team to beat. Good Luck and get the real picture sometime Saturday.

  3. Eligible Transfer Students. Except as otherwise provided in Section 13 below, the following transfer students are eligible: a. The student has no athletic record in the previous twelve months in any sport sponsored by TSSAA; b. There has been a bona fide change of residence by the student's parents or guardian. If such a change of residence occurs between school years, the student must transfer at the beginning of the school year to be eligible. If the change of residence occurs during the school year, the student may transfer without loss of eligibility (1) at the time his/her parents change residence; (2) at the end of the next report card period; (3) at the close of the semester or term; or (4) at the close of the school year; c. The student changes schools as a direct result of re-zoning or reassignment of students by the local school system; d. The student is moving from a boarding school to the school serving the territory where his/her parents live, or vice versa, provided the student has attended the school he/she is leaving for a minimum of twelve months and provided the principal at the school he/she is leaving indicates in writing that the move is not for athletic or disciplinary reasons. The move must be at the beginning of the school year. (Note: The school must be outside the day school territory of the boarding school.); e. The student is transferring to a senior high school in the same system into the earliest grade offered at that senior high school, i.e. at the student's first opportunity to move to that school. f. The student who has been determined by a Court to be dependent and neglected and consequently changes residences and schools as a result of a Court order; g. The first time the student changes residence from one parent to the other as a result of a court ordered custody change, so long as the principal of the former school attests in writing that the move was not for athletic or disciplinary reasons; or h. The first time the student changes residence from a guardian to either or both parents as a result of a court ordered custody change, so long as the principal of the former school attests in writing that the move was not for athletic or disciplinary reasons; i. The student is attending school where the student's parent works as a full-time employee, that parent takes a full-time job at a different school, and the student transfers to the school where the parent takes the new job. The transfer must take place when the parent takes the job or, if the job change occurs during the school year, the transfer must be made at the beginning of the following school year; j. The student who transfers from school A to school B and then returns to school A without having participated in any sport at any level or without practicing in any sport at any level at school B. This must be verified in writing by the administration of school B.
  4. I don't know much about this but, Melrose did play for a state championship this year. They were beaten by one of the best teams in the state. Also lost one during reular season to CBHS who played for a state championship in D2 triple A. Sounds like a banner year for anyone. I know nothing about the coach but no one else has been able to handle Maryville lately. CBHS has been hard to handle to. Something went right in Orange Mound.
  5. Movie maker is very limited in what a Coach will want to do in an editing system. Pinnacle Studio Eight is a much better program to use for simple highlight films. If you want to get a great start you can get Pro Scout for free that will wet your appetite for video editing. http://www.proscoutvideo.com/ We use DSV and it is a scouting program that includes video cuts. You can produce any type of cutup you need. It will also give you any type of tendency report you want. If it won't the programmer will set it up to do it for you. http://www.dsvusa.com/ LRS, Webb Electronics, and CoachComm have very similar systems. You mentioned Webb, Loretto High School uses it so contact them about it. LRS is used by Goodpasture and DSV is used by Northside H.S. in Jackson. Go to the links below and people rate some of these systems. http://coachhuey.proboards42.com/index.cgi...read=1138684783 http://coachhuey.proboards42.com/index.cgi...read=1138155510 I can get more information if you want it.

  8. TACA does not provide liability insurance in the classroom anymore. The rates were to high. They do have liability insurance coverage for coaching.
  9. Lake County Coach was Cliff Sturdivant, brother of former Bruceton coach Rod. He also coached at Huntingdon in the early to mid 80's.
  10. I've seen both of these teams play the past two weeks and both teams are loaded. Alcoa has more speed than I've seen in past years in 2 A and Huntingdon has speed and very physical up front. Both have great tradition and this is one of those games you don't want to miss. I'll summarize this game with one word-SPEED!!!! Skilled athletes all over the field for both teams.
  11. I vote on the Mr. Football and had not heard or seen Lindsey until Friday night. I know who he is and wish I could change my nomination, but I can't. He is the real deal and I won't forget about him next year. I have seen Huntingdon and Alcoa both play and there will be speed on the field in the 2A game. Don't miss this matchup, it will be great. Lindsey is a name you will hear often Friday night on offense and defense.
  12. 2 a will look very close to this. Expect some of the Middle Tennessee schools to move up. Goodpasture has said they would move up no matter what. new z plan

The Z-Plan alias Virginia Plan is the TSSAA’s next attempt at bringing more money into their financial cookie jar. Ronnie Carter and the staff are traveling across the state presenting a biased view on what the Z-Plan will do for high school football in Tennessee. Mr. Carter’s biggest argument is the money that will be saved on travel throughout the state and the mystery and excitement it will create. Many schools that will save on travel may end up will a schedule that puts them at a great disadvantage. The reality is the bonanza of money it will generate for the TSSAA. Why TSSAA’S number one point -TRAVEL holds little value. 1. If travel is so costly to schools why do we schedule so many games in other sports? The travel bill for basketball, baseball, and softball are several times the cost we pay in football travel. These sports play a home and away concept that double travel cost. 2. Will the TSSAA eliminate teams from other sports during post-season who have bad district records? This is exactly what they plan to do in football playoffs. This will cut down on the number that go and will save them travel money. TSSAA will not do this because it will cut down on gate receipts that get a percentage of. 3. Any team will travel if they feel they have a level playing field to compete on. 4. Teams with 1-8 and 3-6 playing the tenth game will have problems with fan support no matter how close they play. Fans support winning teams. The Board will decide on this issue but the TSSAA staff are doing everything in their power to insure passage. The thing that most people don't understand is this is a move to a power ranking system that is very close to colleges BCS format. Another point to consider for schools is that the only division that won't have schools moving into it will be 5A. Enrollment numbers for each class will go up for each class bringing schools down. In 1A you will see Huntingdon, Alcoa, Westmoreland, and many more who will make it tough for several schools currently in 1A. All other classes will be effected the same way.
  14. The numbers that will be used are the ones that were turned in to the State Dept. in January. 8th graders will not be included in these numbers.
  15. Below is a copy from the Virginia High School League rules committee meeting. The roll call has been condensed so you can get to the meat of the meeting. You can see how the Virginia Plan works and uses a power ranking that will be used in Tennessee if it passes. Problems that exist are stated by rule committee personnel. Read the input of the members and you can go to the website below to verify. You will see potential problems that will exist from someone who is doing it and see how some will benefit from it and others will suffer. My questions are 1. Are we ready for a power ranking system and who will decide ties. 2. Larger classification schools have the advantage during regular season. 3. The problem with schools with better records not making the playoffs will still exist. 4. Travel will improve for a few but not most. 5. Can not have even districts across the state because of geographics. 6. Why have classification if you only use it for playoffs. Make up your own mind. www.vhsl.org Football Rating Scale Minutes February 9, 2004 I. Roll Call: II. Purpose of Meeting: To evaluate the new football rating system and forward any suggestions/ legislation to the March Executive Committee. The following documents were distributed to the committee: A. New Rating Scale B. 2003 Playoff Pairings C. Minutes from January 23, 2003, meeting D. Final 2003 Football Ratings III. Input from Committee Members: Francis Dall: There is still a concern that 8-2 teams get in the playoffs and 9-1 teams stay home. An extra round of the playoffs could help alleviate this concern. John Vasvary: His region (III) is proposing that once the four teams are selected for the regional playoffs, seeding would be based solely on the power rating system. District Champions would still advance as they do now, but to help insure the seeding is an indication of the strength of the teams we would continue to use the new power rating for seeding purposes. The most powerful teams would be rated 1,2,3, and 4 based on their rating, not just because they are a district champion and perhaps have a more powerful team rated 4 just because they did not win a district championship. Jim Manchester: His particular school division is mandated to play all schools in their school division; therefore, his school is required to play three or four Group AA schools. Ron Paquette: The Central District in his region (Central) is the only district that encountered any problems this past football season. Rudy Ward: Most of the schools in the Central Region are locked in to playing inside the district and it is difficult to pick up any higher division games. One idea the Central Region discussed is all district games carrying the same weight (i.e., no split in points awarded). Danny Dodson: In his region (Eastern), the Peninsula District schools are vying for playoff spots. Division 6 has to play an unbalanced number of Division 5 schools. Nick Colobro: He received input from Regions C, D and IV. One problem in Region D is the Lonesome Pine District has eight teams and the other districts only have four. Some suggestions he received were: a. Do away with district champion seedings; district champions would not receive automatic berth; b. Cross bracket region playoffs; c. Divide districts individually to determine divisions rather than regions. Fitzgerald Barnes: In his region (II), the Valley District has the same problems as Peninsula District. His school was helped individually with the new rating system. With their region being the largest in Group AA, they support the additional round of the playoffs, but not extending the season. Summary of discussion: Additional comments were shared among committee members regarding potential changes in the football playoff structure. However, the committee continued to focus on potential changes to the existing rating system that would support the concept of rewarding teams that played the more difficult schedule. IV. Business from the floor: The committee reviewed the current procedure to break ties in regional representation. The committee felt the change made (noted in the recommendation to Executive Committee) is needed to coincide with the new rating scale. V. Recommendations to the March Executive Committee: The following recommendations were made to be forwarded to the Executive Committee. While no formal vote was taken, these recommendations were not unanimous, but were approved by consensus. 68-8-4 Regional Representation (1) © The team with the highest rating scale average, counting points only for the VHSL rating-scale-recognized opponents to whom they defeated… Purpose: This change will shift importance to the wins that teams achieve rather than their losses. 68-8-4 Regional Representation (3) District Champions will receive an automatic berth into regional competition utilizing the VHSL power rating system for seeding all teams. Seeding would be based solely upon the final power ratings. Purpose: This change will help to insure the most competitive match ups during post-season playoffs. 68-8-5 Regional Championships (1) Within each division play-off, teams will be seeded from one to four based upon their VHSL power rating. with district champions automatically seeded higher than non-district champions. Ties shall be resolved… Purpose: Consistent with the proposed change in 68-8-4 (3) VI. Adjournment: There being no further business, the committee adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
  16. D II schools have not been mentioned in playing D I during any meetings I have attended. There has been conversation on this matter that public /private split occurs during post season. (not at meetings) This has led many to think that they might be brought back together during regular season.
  17. Union City had 391 turned in during the month of January. The possible cutoff number for single A will be either 395 to 400. This puts them in single A if they choose. Huntingdon 407, Dresden 414, and Tyner 527 won't drop. If the Z- plan occurs the number could rise to around 440.
  18. Board of Control met today and will vote on the Z Plan in June. Meetings will be held across the state according tothe TFCA website. More info on www.tnfca.org
  19. Some of you people need to get a life and realize that things aren't always as they seem to be. Do any of you realize that several private schools had serious input into the multiplier. They fought hard for it to be setup like it was. Do you also not realize that the National Federation of High School Sports only recognizes one organiztion from each state. If you are a member you can't play a school who isn't. You will no longer be able to play in state or out of state with anyone in NFHSS if you form your own. Try and get a schedule then. I'm at a school that plays privates and will be playing even more in the next few years. The multiplier moved several more privates to our division. We need to get ready to play them. They will be good and well coached. That's the way the vote went so we don't have a gripe. Thirty years ago in December I sat in an All Conference Banquet an listen to a coach say he was getting out of single A and moving to AA because he was having to recruit with schools in Nashville for players and he didn't think it was fair to single A schools. That school dominated the playoffs for years. They moved to the highest class and still dominated. He did what many other schools should have done over the years. We can have a great league with public and private together. Issues that are becoming apparent across the state will shift the so-called problem with privates to another arena. Magnet schools are the next in line to come under fire. Urban vs rural areas is another concern that the TSSAA is dealing with. The thing we all need to remember is things will contine change and if we are affected negatively we'll complain and if not we'll be ok. Many times better competition helps us become even better, sometimes not. The kids are being thought of in these matters. The bad thing about it is a vast majority may be considered and yours are not included in it. You look at the situation through your eyes and love your child . Those dealing with these issues are looking out for the all kids as a whole. Do they make the right decisions always? No. But that is all about living in our country and being democratic in our voting process. The issue has been decided for four years so let's live with it. Other issues coming up will have a direct bearing on us. I will fight for what I believe in until a vote is taken and then I'll move on. Many of you need to do the same.
  20. Coach

    TACA All-Star

Melrose coach and CBHS coach are involved in the East West All Star game and did not summitt any names for the Kentucky Tennessee game. Can't be picked if you're not nominated.
  21. The 1.8 multiplier plus no school moving up more than one class was passed by the Board. Talk was centered around the problems that this would create for several of the smaller 1A schools. Vote of 6 to 3 to do it anyway. March meeting will be dealing with the Z plan. Talked to several of the members who felt like this would penalize even more schools. Solid chance it won't happen. General discussion after the meeting with coaches attending that felt like several of the private schools effected by the multiplier would opt to Division II. Interesting talk afterwards with a Board Member about open zoning in Nashville next year. Students can change to other schools. Opens up a whole new can of worms considering Pearl Cohn will be in 3A in football and 2A in basketball. Other schools will be involved also.
  22. Someone tell me this one simple answer and I will buy into the Z Plan-Why will my school of around 500 have to play a school with double my enrollment to secure a playoff spot when they won't even play in the same division come playoff time. Do they not have a much better advantage than I do. The Z Plan is starting to take shape and will be what we all deserve. The biggest thing being talked about by the TSSAA is putting "all schools" back in three classes for the regular season and splitting D 1 and D 2 at playoff time. A multiplier may also be included. The thing that really bothers me is all the hard work that was put into splitting each sport into equal divisions and now we go backwards in time. Some of you, with me included, all have a plan that will benefit our own schools. We fought to get football independent of other sports on classification and an even playing field by creating more divisions. Most will say that it will still be 5 classes and it really won't even resemble it. Single A will have districts that will have to combine into a region to have enough teams. Regions in higher divisions will be so over loaded with schools that a school with a 3-7 record can still make the playoffs. We play in 2 A and if I chose to play a team in a higher class it is by my own chosing not the TSSAA. We play them because we choose to and it doesn't hurt our playoff chances. Now a team in a higher division will determine if we go or not. Travel has always been a problem for us because teams near us won't play. Our old rivalries have either consolidated into larger schools or haven't grown enough to move up. So many news schools have been added that old rivialries will never exist again. We have new and better rivialries. I talked to our Board Member and he told me Ronnie Carter told them one thing in their meeting and is telling us another. My Board member is at 4 A school that will have to play Lincoln County during the regular season under the Z Plan. They have a hard time competing in 4 A and now they are going to ask their kids to step up and play their "old rivals". The TSSAA stated no movement up and now are thinking different. If they decide not to and put D 2 back in you have Brentwood Academy playing back in single A. We know what problems that would create. How many have tried to get film trades setup? Try getting in touch with Memphis Schools on Saturday and see what kind of success you have. All we have done is try and boot this one out or modify the system to our own advantage. Privates do have advantages but so do public schools. How many of you would trade pay checks? Scott Smith made a statement about privates working harder, the number of post some of you have on here is a clear indication he is right in some respect. We will take whatever comes our way in stride and go to work and compete and be successful. The one thing we will continue to do is work hard at improving our association and hopefully model it after states that are football states. We are becoming like schools that take every idea California has to offer and implement them. Wake up and realize that it's about the game of football and not our own little world.
  23. Larry Taft will be the first one to let the TFCA All State team out to the media. It will then be sent to the TFCA website from what I understand.
  24. I may be alittle slow but doesn't any one see what's wrong here. TSSAA says for years we need to divide evenly in each class and suddenly we go back to the 80's on dividing unequal classes. We split into five classes to make it more competitive for all schools and now some will be playing larger schools to get into the playoffs. I bet 2A and 4A are tickled to death about playing three A schools and five A schools to secure a playoff spot. And we all know about a strength of schedule format that is impossible to determine. You could have 16 district champions and 16 second place finishers in 5A and 32 wildcard qualifiers in 4A. How can we justify a school playing in a lower level being held accountable for a loss to a team that will be in a higher class. How many coaches on here can say how easy it is to get a schedule. If it's easy you either have a large region or your win record isn't the best in the world. What about a Georgia Plan, a Texas Plan, or at least some state that is rich in football tradition. Coaches will have a swell time setting up film trades for the first round of the playoffs. It could be determined sometime on Saturday mornings. If you have Memphis Schools on your schedule good luck on getting films. The list of negatives go on and on and as Ronnie Carter says the best thing about it is the mystery of it. Are we all not tired of all the mysteries that have been strung on us through the years. Chalk another one up for TSSAA and all of us who are gullible for anything they shoot down the pike. If it ain't broke don't try and fix it. If it running alittle rough don't replace the engine, tune it up.
