  1. It sure looks like the Cornersville - Moore County game will decide the last playoff spot.
  2. Cornersville winning would be a monumental upset this week. However, they have a very real shot at being 5-1 going into the Wayne County game. I would not be at all surprised to see them win 6 games overall and 4 region games for the first time in a long while. While the region is certainly down overall as evidenced by region 5 teams MTCS and Clarksville Acad beating Perry Co and Huntland I think Cornersville deserves some credit for their improvement.
  3. I got to see RCA friday night. They were better than I expected from a small startup school in a rural area. Mostly a spread look. QB is the best athlete and got most of their yards running the football. Looked like they were in the 50 most of the night, although they did alot of jumping around and I saw some even fronts. Pretty good size up front and well coached. However, not deep at all as they only had 17 or 18 players and their hosses were having to play up front on the KO return team-not a good sign. I think you (LCA) will probably dominate most of your schedule. Sounds like with size, numbers, and speed in your first year you are already seeing the advantage that being a small private located in an urban area will provide. I wouldn't expect any of the small rural publics or privates on your schedule to want to play you after the two year contract. Not trying to bash you in any way, that's just how it usually plays out. You have a huge base to potentially draw athletes from that some of those schools on your schedule don't have. For example, RCA has a few kids who would have gone to the only other school in the county(Lincoln Co.) and probably a couple from across the line in north Bama.
  4. Because there are only 5 teams involved instead of 6. Cascade and Richland will be playing for a longer time period than the other three.
  5. High School 5:30 Forrest vs Middle Tennessee Christian 6:10 Eagleville vs Middle Tennessee Christian 6:50 Forrest vs Eagleville 7:25 Cascade vs Richland Middle Schools from Forrest, Eagleville, and Cascade to follow at 8:30. Mt. Juliet Christian was supposed to play but dropped out just this week. Also Cascade was forbidden by their Supt. not to play til after 7, hence the changes in schedule. Should be a little cooler by Saturday so come on out.
  6. I think the point is that the private schools should have a seperate division to compete for championships against other private schools. Both finalists in 1A and 2A baseball are private schools. Thats four out of four teams. Two out of three teams left in 1A softball are privates(multiplier worked real well /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ), and the favorite to win 2A in softball is a private. So we will likely end up with private schools winning all four championships in 1A and 2A. Let me emphasize that this does not mean that the private schools have done anything wrong. All of them left are fine schools with great kids and quality reputations. However, it is obvious they have some distinct advantages in Spring sports over the rural schools. If everybody is fine with that then great, expect the championships in the lower classes to continue for the privates. But please don't give us the just work harder or find better coaches garbage.
  7. Because player info had to be submitted weeks ago. Plus, there are always very good teams in middle Tennessee that get tripped up before they make it to state.
  8. Shelby Burchell from Columbia Academy has 11 according to the Daily Herald.
  9. So Spring Hill lost the make-up game 4-3 after leading 6-0 in the 4th of the rainout? OUCH, that's gotta hurt!
  10. How dare you ask such a question!! Don't you know all the private numbers were multiplied so they wouldn't dominate 1A anymore. What?? You mean they are still winning in 1A. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Seriously, it really looks like it is TCA's to lose. They are that good. However, in my opinion the best competition for state tourney births will come from Regions 5 and 6. There ought to be some great region and sectional games involving CA, Cornersville, Summertown, Collinwood, Forrest, Cascade, and East Robertson. I'm not sure any of those teams can compete with with TCA for the title but whoever makes it thru will have had to earn their way to the tourney. I know there are other good teams out there like Huntingdon, FCA, and Whitwell. The middle just seems more loaded than the other ends of the state, even after the departure of most of the Nashville private schools. Again, just my biased opionion based on scores and past results.
  11. While I do not like teams pulling out either, let's not be so harsh. There are sometimes good reasons. Injuries mounting up seems to be the most common. It may not be wise to enter a tourney with only 10 or 11 able players, especially when you have already played in other tourneys and have district games coming up. Burnout can be another problem that a coach or team might sense is coming on. Teams that play in all of these tourneys may actually need some rest and time away from softball to get ready for the coming district and region games. Again, I'm not trying to make excuses for individual teams, just an observation. This stuff happens every year. It would probably be better for some coaches to use a little more foresight when it comes to scheduling so many tourneys in the first place.
  12. Great idea! We need to make sure and bump this topic about the 1st of May as a reminder. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  13. I bet East Robertson is thrilled to be the only public school in with the Nashville private school powerhouses. Man, that will be a tough job.
  14. Don't you think that UC being twice as big a school as Lake County might have something to do with that? Lake County has had some amazing success over the years considering how small the school is. Yes, they have historically had some great athletes compared to other 1A schools, but isn't it likely that the lack of a supporting cast/subs is due moreso to the size of the school than any lack of coaching. BTW, if a crazy Falcon fan named Reid Yates sees this: Howdy from your distant kinfolks in middle Tennessee.
  15. Webb School of Bell Buckle is known as the Webb Feet.
  16. Travis Henry is from Florida. Did you mean Cedrick Wilson? I believe he was the QB for Melrose that year.
  17. It would make scheduling pretty easy and a playoff berth would really mean something. Remember that Forrest and Cascade played in old region 6. It wouldn't be anything new to them.
  18. Like some others have said, its way to early to panic. Friendship is probably one of the top 2 or 3 1A teams in the state, Giles is a talented 3A team, Forrest is a solid playoff team, and MTCS is just better than Zion. They are much different than Zion, based on where MTC is located, they could be real good real quick. So none of the four losses are anything to be ashamed of. One of the things that has always made region 6 great is that everybody expects to win(except maybe Cornersville and Zion). There may not be any gold balls this year but 6A will continue to be one of the most competitve regions in 1A football. Let's enjoy it.
  19. I'm not so sure. The top three in single A softball could very well still all be privates. In no particular order: Friendship CA TCA There is really no simple answer to this problem. Are the privates all an evil, recruiting, win at all costs, bunch of jerks-NO. Should they be battling public schools for state championships when they obviously can and do have some real advantages- PROBABLY NOT.
  20. With a chance of rain now in the forcast for Saturday one would think that they may look at finishing up the tourney Friday night. If they are able to play today(Thursday) I would guess that the coaches will meet this evening to discuss completing it Friday night. Playing a loser's bracket final early followed by the championship game or games wouldn't be a big deal anyway. Could play at 3, 5, and 7:00 and be done. Makes the most sense. It would be kind of silly to just play one game Friday evening when it may rain again Saturday.
  21. They will match up with District 11 in the region. Huntland and CA are the top two.
  22. Thanks Pageman. I just checked the udated weather, and you are right, today looks good. They are not even posting a rain chance. However, tomorrow looks wet for the 1st round. I know it has been a disappointing year for you. But the tourney is a whole new season. Good luck to the Patriots.
  23. Why wasn't this game played Monday? It was not wet. What will happen with the tourney games if its rained out again today?
  24. While not necessarily true, that would prove my point that region 5 is not the "weakest in 1A". Just trying to get a little respect here. WH-Heritage our 6th place team beat #4 seed Sunbright(4-6) out of 7 team reg 2. Nashville Christian our 7th place team beat #4 seed Watertown(6-4) out of 8 team reg 4. Remember when the old region 5 ABC schools gave us no respect in region 6. They said we didn't play anybody and were weak, when if fact we were always the strongest real 1A region in the state. The fact is that teams 5, 6, and 7 from both regions 5 and 6 would make the playoffs in most any other region in the state. That is what makes Friday nights fun. We forget sometimes that most of the 1A regions have one or two heavyweights and then it falls way off. Its not like that in region 6 and to some extent in regions 5 and 7.
  25. What are you people in the Wood smoking? This is the second time in the last couple of days that yall have referred to region 5 as the weakest in the state. If you look top to bottom region 5 only ranks behind regions 6 and 7 overall. Our 6th and 7th place teams beat playoff teams from regions 2 and 4. There is absolutely no question that region 6 is the strongest in the state and will stay that way. However, please don't call another region "the weakest in 1A" without knowing the facts.
