  1. Good post. My biggest pet peeve in sports is fans who think they know more than the coaches.
  2. Sorry you feel that way. I don't feel that I said anything to make the man look bad, just that he had problems there. Even if I didn't mention administration, it shouldn't matter. You can take from it what you will.
  3. I'm the "reporter" who brought it up. First of all, it was not brought up in a negative sense. It happened, I mentioned it in giving background for what he accomplished at Memphis East. In no way was he, or anyone at East, spoken of poorly. I don't know how you took from that that I said Coach Randall was a bad guy. All that was said was that he had an issue with administration and it was still ongoing. If you have a problem with that, then that's your problem. Mentioning things that have actually happened is hardly unprofessional.
  4. I'll give ya my two cents. Didn't think either USJ or Liberty looked that good. Don't know if each team was good defensively or bad offensively...I'm leaning toward the latter. Just not a good night for either team, IMO. TCA and Peabody was a good one. Peabody fumbled on its first possession just like last year. Harper is the real deal, man...he looked great. TCA was solid...got hosed on a fumble call that would have given them six more (Tomlin scooped it and ran for the TD but the official had blown his whistle before the play was over, so they just gave the ball to TCA at the spot). TCA, I thought, owned the line of scrimmage. I know Peabody was without DE Rossie Jones and head coach Kent Scott, for what it's worth. Milan-JCM was a slugfest...lots of hard hits. Bad news for Milan, as Brent Hanson went down on the 3rd play of the game with a knee injury. I've been told that it is not good, which is a big blow. But man, is Milan fast -- by far the fastest backs out there tonight. Hawkins looked good at times, not so good at others. I liked what I saw from the Cougars though. Humboldt-South Side was alright. You can really tell a difference in Humboldt's backfield at the moment...not nearly as impactful. Their TD came on a tipped pass that went right to Epperson (who to his credit was in the right place), but the pass from Shivers was well underthrown. South Side looked pretty good to me. Ken James is a man, and Masoud looked comfortable at QB. JCS-North Side started out rough for JCS...fumbled on its first play, leading to a NS score, then penalties put them at 1st and 30 from their own 10. Three plays later, they scored on a BEAUTIFUL pass from Matt Hudson to Tanner Perkins on 3rd-and-12. Play of the night as far as I was concerned. From that point forward, it was pretty much JCS. NS might have gotten one first down after their first drive...kept running to the weakside where Josh Aldridge and Ben Cooper were...didn't work too well. Hudson doesn't have the wheels Fowler did, but I was very impressed with his arm and ability to read the defense. Didn't make one bad decision throwing the football.
  5. Just a heads up for those who are looking, but On The Ball's 2007 HS Football Preview is on most racks in West TN as of today. Hope you enjoy.
  6. VG, his sister is Christine Campbell, who played basketball at NS and also ran track. John was also a standout in discus and shot in track. Maybe that'll help.
  7. If you'd bother reading my entire post, you'll note I said I saw SOME of the scrimmage. And when I was there, Liberty was busting off 15-20 yards per clip two out of three plays with both team's first sqauds in.
  8. I watched a little bit of it...Fayette Academy was there, too. Peabody's offense went up against Greenfield's defense first, and scored twice in 10 plays. Peabody did what they should have done against Greenfield. Defensively, they didn't allow FA to do much on the series I saw, but again...that's what they should have done.
  9. 7 on 7 is fun to watch but means very little. I saw some of the Liberty/McKenzie scrimmage and I thought crusader's assessment was pretty spot on. Liberty did nothing but run the ball when I was there and McKenzie could do nothing to stop them. They did have issues defensively...I saw Carr beat them deep a few times (that kid has an arm). I think you'll see them come on very strong in the second half of the season once Hoofkin gets his systems in place.
  10. In that case, 10 of the 70-something teams in their coverage area were not in the magazine. You can't make coaches be in the issue if they don't take the time to respond to phone calls. That's hardly "more teams missing than covered," as you erroneously claimed. If you want to put one together, go for it. But you'll quickly find it's not as easy as it looks.
  11. Jo Byrns would not have beaten JCS last year. Period.
  12. That's pretty impressive, since it's not out yet.
  13. Nice post, StevieRayVol. The best thing the D-burg community can do is let Bowling do his job. He'll help bring them plenty of continued success.
  14. Tucker can't play this year. He's a senior, but he's past the TSSAA age limit. Not related to grades or anything, he just started school very late. Even without him, Bolivar's going to have plenty of talent in the backfield.
  15. F-W has to learn how to bounce back from losing. They were not the same after JSS handed them their helmets last year in Week 6. I'll probably be taking Bolivar, but any of those top four could do it. I don't think there's a clear favorite by any means.
  16. No, the 7-on-7 is at USJ. I was told there will be 3 passing games going on simultaneously, and with all USJ's practice fields, they'd be the place to have that.
  17. Here, then, let's try to liven it back up. Anyone who picks a team not located in Dyersburg just is not looking at this region objectively. Bowling is, IMO, an excellent football coach, one of the best in West TN. You've got one of the top RB's in the area in Caldwell, Taylor is moving to a slot/RB where he is going to be very dangerous, and now Parker -- who runs the option very well -- is in at QB. But no one is talking about the addition of Wes Kennedy to the coaching staff, and that's going to be huge. Kennedy is a heckuva coach, just look at what he did with a Fayette Academy team that had average talent more years than not. Having him on the sidelines is going to make a difference. Crockett County isn't to be left for dead. They're very big and very experienced up front, and you know they'll always have solid skill guys. If the O-Line can do its job while the new skill players get their feet wet, the Cavs will be pretty dangerous in the second half of the season. The front 7 on defense ought to be strong as usual...the secondary will be the defense's biggest concern. Covington is Covington, they're going to be in the mix. Someone else mentioned Haywood's tendency to start slow and finish strong...can't imagine why this year would be any different. But I think those two will get some competition from Ripley. Remember, Marty Wheeler didn't even get hired to replace McAdams until mid July last year, so he never really got a chance to get his feet on the ground; plus, he brought in new systems on both sides of the ball without much time to implement them. Now that he has a full year under his belt with his team, I think we'll see a pretty marked improvement. If I had to pick 'em today, I'd go: 1. Dyersburg 2. Covington 3. Crockett Co. 4. Ripley I feel pretty confident that those are your playoff teams with Haywood barely missing out...2-4 could fall another way. It's going to be a fun region to follow.
  18. Punctuation can be your friend.
  19. CoachT, Westside has closed its doors. Oh, and TCA runs the region table.
  20. It's available all over Memphis...should be able to find it at any area Kroger.
  21. OTB expanded into Memphis and DeSoto County in December. The football preview in August will include those schools.
  22. I have a great idea that'll make people like MPHSTIGERS87 quite happy. Increase the multiplier every year until private schools don't win any championships.
  23. I meant in addition to Anna.
