  1. Tonight was a prime example of a team that had not been pushed or had to play for 4 quarters all season, getting fatigued. Yes, Guy was fabulous and had over 270 yards rushing. Over 200 of that was in the 2nd half. The rest of the Westview offense had about 120 yards for the game. No tonight's game does not indicate that our defense is one of the best in the area. But, it is no indication of the caliber of football this bunch is capable of playing by the time the playoffs come around. remember, there are 6 new starters on that side of the ball and more of them are playing both ways than they have in the past. give them a little time and they'll be fine. I certainly wouldn't bet against them. Milan folks keep talking. We'll be over that way in a couple of weeks to see if you can back it up.
  2. Don't be too quick to be bury the Mustangs just yet. They racked up over 520 yards of offense tonight and had it not been for 2 turnovers inside westview's 10, would have probably won the game. Not to take anything away from Westview cause they took it to HHS, but this game didn't mean nothing in the big scheme of things. I would hate to be the team that has to face a mad bunch of Mustangs next week. May I be the 1st to congratulate Mr. Guy on winning the 2A state player of the week. If he doesn't, somebody else must put up some hellacious numbers tonight.
  3. Great high school football game. Not very often a team gives up over 500 yards of offense and comes away with a win. Guy was the difference tonight. That and the 2 turnovers inside Westview's 10 yard line. Both teams got a lot better tonight. They are both young and improving. HHS has nothing to be ashamed of. They ran into an inspired bunch of well-coached kids tonight.
  4. Huntingdon ran the I just about the entire season last year. They went back to more Wing T sets for the McKenzie game and have used combo sets since. They line up with Donald or Ball at FB in the I or wing T with Weathers at TB or WB and Hampton at the other wing. Donald also lines up at TB in the I on occasion. They haven't ran any Power I in a long time, except in short yardage or goal line situations.
  5. You gotta be impressed with that education you're getting there also Peabody5. Not trying to be ugly, but at least let your mom proofread before posting.
  6. I believe Huntingdon and Trenton will meet in the finals and I think Huntingdon has a real shot to beat Trenton. The Fillies start 5 seniors who have compiled an 85-13 record over the last 3 seasons. They lost to Trenton in last years Semi's 46-41 and that was without their best player who was out with a knee injury. That experience, along with their classmates winning the 2A state football title, has made them hungry for a championship. They are also a classy bunch of young ladies who have represented their school extremely well during their careers. I expect a tough route to the finals however. I know the girls from Summertown, Clarkrange and Unaka all expect to win, too. Should be a great tourney. I just hope everyone plays well and decides it on the floor and the refs don't screw anybody. Good Luck Fillies!!!
  7. You mean underpublicized players like Scott Wells, Jabari Greer, Will Bartholomew, Eddie Moore, Eric Westmoreland, Teddy Gaines, John Finlayson, Andre Lott and Cedric Wilson? None of these players were on the national recruiting radar. The facts are there are just not as many Top D1 prospects in Tennessee as other states. Georgia, Florida, Texas, etc. can get 95% of their team from in state. If Tennessee did that, they would NEVER compete for SEC or National championships. I would love to see more Tenn kids playing in Knoxville but it's not realistic. Coach PF does as good a job as anybody in the country of getting kids from all over the country to come play in the mountains of East Tenn. I'd hate to see where we'd be without him.
  8. This All State Team has no merit whatsoever. It has already been said that only coaches present voted and not all players were considered. That's like getting the Heisman voting (which I think is also a joke) from only the area West of the Mississippi. I congratulate the kids who made this list but I certainly don't feel bad for the many kids who deserved it and didn't make it. They will be rewarded with awards far more meaningful than this bogus crap.
  9. Dan Morris has been a friend to the Huntingdon program for about 30 years. He has wrote many favorable articles over the years and has visited the Mustang corral on numerous occasions. Did you folks not read the Jackson sun last week adn this weekend? It was all Huntingdon!! We got more press than you can buy. Leave Fearless alone. It looks like he fired us up by picking the defending state champs to defend their crown. What person wouldn't have?? Thanks Dan for all you've done for Huntingdon over the last 30 years. I'm one Mustang that appreciates it.
  10. If you're not recruiting, then why are you playing in Div 2? That's what the separation was created for, the ones who were offering financial aid for athletes and those who weren't. So tell me, why is MBA playing Division 2 if they're not offering financial aid to athletes?
  11. Some nice action shots (not as good as yours Vetter!) of the Mustangs and Mustangs. Great pic of Adam Parrish intercepting a pass and Terrence eluding a tackler as he did so often last night. Thought you mom's and dad's might like to save 'em. This is the game story--the pic link is just below. http://news.tennessean.com/hs03/site/tenne...&pagename=front
  12. Great job SB....I hope you got a lot of shot of the players and fans after the game cause it was a beautiful sight. Give that young'un some Vitamin C and let him lay in bed as long as he wants. He, and the rest of the Stangs, deserve a little R and R after the months of hard work that went into this championship. Great job!!
  13. To all those "Who Believed" before last night, it was great. Obviously, the kids made believers out of a lot more folks with their incredible performance. One of the most impressive things of this championship run was the victories over 3 consecutive unbeaten teams to win the title. First, Lewis Co. in the quarters was 12-0. Then Milan in the semis was 13-0. And of course, Lipscomb was 14-0 going into last nights game. Can anyone ever remember that happening before? As well as the kids played, as much credit goes to Coaches Mansfield, Prichard and Swenson. They watched the films, devised a game plan and stood back and watched the kids execute to near perfection. Fantastic job! A great win for the Mustangs and the town of Huntingdon which I don't think will die down any time soon. I suggested last night giving the game tape to the Court Theater and letting them show it for a few nights. I guarantee the biggest crowds they've had in a long time!! Love them 'Stangs!!!!!
  14. dcw --- getting ready to leave from Jackson in about an hour. Can't wait to see the Blue and Gold fans invading Murfreesboro. Give the boys a big send off and tell them we'll meet them at the bell tower. See ya there. I BELIEVE!!!!!!
  15. Can't argue with logic like that!!
  16. I was referring to the overall play of the defense. The KO return was not against the defense and the pass play was a simple fade that could have been defended. That was all I said and I stand by it. How you can compare those 2 plays to World Wars is a little ridiculous. This is high school football we're talking about.
  17. Congrats to you (if you are the kicker from Crockett) and Earnest and the rest of West Tenn. winners today. You all are certainly deserving. But you'll never kick a bigger one than the one against Sycamore as a freshman!! Good luck in the future.
  18. That's almost word for word what was said by the 12-0 Lewis Co. fans and the 13-0 Milan fans prior to playing Huntingdon. It also sounds a lot like the Miami fans prior to the Tennessee game. Ask them how good Huntingdon is. We accept being underdogs, but wait till you destroy us before writing us off. WE have the utmost respect for Coach Mac and the DL program. But we don't fear them. We'll be there Friday.
  19. #80 is Brian Nellett. He's a 6'3 240# (my guess) Senior DT and TE as well as punter. He had nearly 30 tackles for losses on the year in addition to double digit sacks. He's also a pretty good baseball player. I think he wants to play baseball on the next level but I'm not 100% on that. And yes, you can always count on him to jump offsides 1 or 2 times per game. He's had a great season and is a big part of the Mustang success.
  20. Milan has been much more diverse than just Smith this year. Beasley and Walker both had excellent years as receivers. I think Beasley wound up with around 800 yds rec and Walker over 500 but my memory could be wrong. Goff had a good year running the ball as well. West will probably be the all region QB as well. He had well over 1000 yds passing on the season. The Mustangs had to cover the whole field with the speed and skill Milan possessed at rec and running back. IMO, the milan coaches got a little conservative and played not to lose instead of playing to win. Smith was sucking wind in the 2nd quarter but they continued to give him ball (17 carries 1st half, 16 in the 2nd). Some of that may have been contributed to the wind and cold--others just to the fact that they were ahead for most of the game and didn't want to risk turnovers that ultimately proved to be their doom. Also, holding Smith to 138 yds on 33 carries is not a bad nights work. He is a very talented player and has not been stopped all season (or the last 3 seasons for that matter). I thought the defense played well. Take away the 85 yd ko return and the blown coverage on the 80 yd pass play and Milan had 15 points and 217 yds of total offense. I'll take that again this Friday night and be tickled.
  21. Here's the link to the Huntingdon High School web site. http://www.huntingdonschools.org/HHS/
  22. There has been a lot of talk about the decision to kick the last Ep instead of going for 2. The crowd I was in was divided at the time as well. I said kick it since I didn't think the scoring was through for the night. Kick the EP, then a FG wins if Milan scores again. True Sullivan struggled a bit Friday night but he had missed only 2 EP's all year before that. Again, it can be argued both ways, but that one play shouldn't be questioned in light of the way the Mustang coaches prepared and called the game Friday night. I think they earned the right to make their own decisions based on their instincts.
  23. I'd hate to think that any team that's playing in Murfreesboro next weekend won't be "prepared to play". Huntingdon realizes they have their toughest game of the year left but that's what a state championship game is supposed to be. The Mustangs of Huntingdon will be prepared, hungry and dangerous. I expect nothing less than the same great effort that we've seen all year from these kids. I know the coaches and players have the utmost respect for DL but they don't fear them. Don't be surprised if they give DL all they want and then some. JMO
  24. Congrats to the Mustangs on a Huge win tonight. The turnovers proved to be the difference, as usual and as I suggested earlier in the week. Rod looked tired in the 2nd half after chasing CD all night and that may have contributed to the fumbles. Our secondary has obviously improved and probably caught Mr. West by surprise. I don't think he was expecting anyboy but his guys to be near the ball on his passes. Great job by the Mustang coaches and a great deal of heart shown by the Mustang players. Got one more to go.

    I BELIEVE!

Watch it, turbo. Rumor has it that westtn2004state is either the QB or one of the 2 WRs, so he'll probably be a determining factor in the game. 9yr.oldchamps, I respect your opinion on here, but I'll have to agree that the pressure is on Milan because they are the favorites. I fail to see how the pressure is on a heavy underdog, who some on here are predicting to lose by as many as 5+ TDs, instead of a hyped-up (and rightfully so) undefeated Milan team whose coaches have already won 2 championships. In reality,I think we all agree that the pressure is on both teams. This is a shot for the gold ball and that doesn't happen every year. Milan is going to be a decent team next year but nowhere as close to how good this team is. So yeah, I guess the pressure is on Milan as well to do it this year. I really feel like Milan has the advantage in QB, kicking game, and depth. Depth could be the deciding factor in this game. Milan only has two players going both ways and I remember the Mustangs had around 5 or 6. Correct me if I"m wrong on that number. You're wrong. Huntingdon starts only 1 player both ways. There are several kids who get snaps on both sides of the ball, but only one is a full time 2 way player. Depth will not be a deciding factor.
