  1. I agree that its prolly falling on deaf ears, but the fact of the matter is there are schools that have zoning isuues other than private schools. Those that do should fall into the same division as schools like them. The thing is that the TSSAA has to have rules that are across the board and zoning has become the main focus here. If they can get students froma much larger base we want them to be subject to the same rules as we are. Is equal treatment that much to ask for? I am totally not against the split but what i am against is seperation based on things that we have in common with a minority of schools. Dandy you bring up the earlier split but it was based of financial aid and since we didnt give finanacial aid we where aloowed to remain in division 1. There has to be some kind of reasoning behind the split unless the TSSAA just bends to the majority , which is what will prolly happen.

Football looks much the same. I woulda dare to bet that most private schools are this way so its not that big of a deal. What we want more than anything is resoning why besides we win too much. Noone has come up with something sound that could implemented other than the winning percentages. Could they have outworked you? Could they have Outcoached You? Do they Have better support? I would dare to say yes in many of those cases but that is simply my opinion. Move us up a division or 2 and thats fine but to tally split i think is a terrible idea especially on the basis of what people have stated on here, because there are many sucessful public schools that have hte same advantges.
  3. Thanks for making my point for me. I am a small division 1 private fan (ezell harding) The same thing you are accused of here is the same thing we are accused of, but the only difference is your powerhouse school doesnt get brought up in discussions simply because you are a public school. I commend you for your sucess and have nothing against Maryville. You rebuttals are the same ones private school have been using and being told we are bias and only wanting what is best for our school. Its the truth though that if you have a good caoch and kids that want to play it makes a huge difference. Also if you werent winning noone would care kinda like the privates before we got good. It was ok when we the doormats, just as you say maryville was, but dont let us win some then we must be cheatin. There you go folks the same thing from a public school supporter we have been saying the entire time. Instead of comaplaining and tryin to legislate winning try hard work get a decent coach and support the team from families and guess what you might have a winner to.
  4. That private schools can pull kids from all over the city. The differnce between division 2 privates and division 1 privates is huge. If you where to look at where the kids where coming from i would dare to say that a majority of division 1 privates come from close areas to the school. Now division 2 is a different story it is with in there rights to offer financial aid to student athletes from anywhere. That gives them the oppurtunity to pull these kids from all over metro areas. When Comapring Division 1 privates, which is what this debate is about, and division 2 schools there is a larger gap than many of you think. When camparing the two types of school i know many of you see them in the same light, but it just not the case. Walk around one day at both schools and tell me you dont see the socioeconmic difference in the two places. I have attended both types of schools and can tell you it is a HUGE difference. Now saying that i would never step out and say the division 1 privates do not get kids into their school where maybe someone else is helping the student attend there. If all kids where that lucky many of them would attend private schools in Nashville. BUt as far as that goes there are many examples where public schools with good teams have done many of the same things private schools get accused of on this board. From recruiting, zoning, financial aid(yes some public schools have tution from outside of their zone). Look no furhter than the publics crowning jewel Maryville and to know they have 5-7 out of zone students that START for that team tells me they have many of the same advantages. The thing we want is fairness across the board not one set of rules for public and one set of rules for privates, because if that is the case we should have our own association that has our best interests at heart. The TSSAA is not all to blame they have togo with the majority, which makes the public schools the winner by default.
  5. Ban every student that lives outside their zone from competing in athletics? I think that would cause even more problems for public schools and privates would again benefit from dumb rules. Also Trackman when you say SOME like you do it just proves my point. The rules you are making have to be across the board and not specifically rules for private schools. You cant have rules for private school then much easier rules for public school that a lawsuit wating to happen. I would think twice before you just say im wrong. I know for a fact you can approach each and every school board across the state with whatever hardship either real or made up and get to go to school whereever you want. One ive heard used is one school academics was not as good as another so they wanted to attend Overton in Nashville. Guess what it worked and he starred on the Overton Wrestling team yet he lived in Donelson. The main thing we want is the rule to be fair to all memeber schools or we dont need to be members and take our money elsewhere.
  6. NO private school ha a feeder system that would be the publics advatage. As far as not having a choise i would beg to differ. You can attend a school outside your zone if you would like if you are in public schools. So basically people dont want private schools to try to get students?
  7. I Have No interest in the team. all this is stemming from the small 1a privates getting kicked out because they have selective enrollment and get students from outside their area. Thats the reason they want to send us all to division 2, which is the same thing you are doing.
  8. More players make it to college playing ball from larger public high schools than anywhere else. The plsit is good thing but there is no sound logic that makes it work.
  9. Haters are always out there and you my friend are one. Every school has up and down years this will be a down one next yeaar who knows. They have won alot of games under Brunette he cant be all bad. He has had some good talent but thats not gonna be a problem for long. Recruiting time right around the corner.
  10. Do you read my posts? Have u placed the ignore on me just wonderin . You are not gonna get that many division 1 athletes from #1 Rural areas they dont have the exposure #2 From schools that dont compete with larger numbers. There is no way to use enrollment as a figure of where people whould be in my opinion, because the athletes at private schools may be bettr athletes proabably have better coaches and most definately have more drive to excell. So your average student at a private school maybe worth 4 as far as athletics go. I mean the only way i see this working out is to split the schools for no specific reasons besides they are different. This in turn will give private schools bragiing rights from here on out that they are the best programs in the state recruiting or not. I dont mind being known as the best athletics int he state and im sure the other private supporters here would agree that we think it might be that way.
  11. They are using enrollment as their arguing tool. Its the only measurable thing(zoning requirements), but at the same time we arent the only ones doing it. Recruiting is illegal i doubt many schools do it but of coarse some will private or public. I have stated before if you use where the students are coming from then it has to be apllied across all member schools or its illegal. They will have to base it on something other than that. The only hard factuall evidence that public's have are the records vs the privates. Schools such as Maryville have the same advanatages as private schools and as far as i can tell a better record vs publics than any private. Milan is another school and you dont even want to try to to investigate metro school because everyone you would find students from other zones. Also the point that anyone willing to drive their kid to a specific school they can if they want. This is not some kind of socialist county we have freedom of choice, but many people seem to think private school are the only ones with no zones. Your best public school, the crowning jewel has the same advanatges.
  12. Ya but that could be for many reasons. The coaches may have better connection being in a large city. They run more complicated systems, which gives recruiters an opputunity to see them in situstions and plays they might run. As a whole public schools are running antiquated schemes that people dont use anymore except a select few. Because they can get to schools doesnt always meen they are the better players. The product just might be more refined. As far as a multiplier but a X2 on everyone except the financial aid schools put then in highest class. But see 5A doesnt want to play them so it wont happen.
  13. But to get back to the topic at hand. Welcome to Division 2 Maryville yor new league will be named the Super 8 Since you can get the same students as private schools. How many private schools that compete in Football are in the Knoxville area or close enough to Maryville to take those types of potential students.
  14. We lost the rntire starting team from last year and the 6th man as well. Be a tough year for Ezell is basketball.
  15. The story begins in 1971 when FRA opened its doors to 232 students in grades K-6. The only resemblance to an athletic complex on campus was a small football field which rested on top of Peach Orchard Hill. It was topped with sod cut from the yard of founding Headmaster Bill Bradshaw. Alumni remember spending Sunday afternoons picking up rocks to make the field safe and ready for the sod transported by faculty, parents and students, the beginning of the FRA tradition of family involvement. In 1984, Headmaster Bill campbell formed a committee to look long-range at the facilities, playgrounds to varsity fields. Funding for the top priority of this review, the completion of the athletic complex, became a focus but was hard to obtain. Someone actually worked hard and put in the work so they could have thoe types of facilities. All private schools have nice facilities they have to in order to get students. We all agree pretty much that we are willing to move up but it the public school people that want to kick everyone out. Private school are willing to give some why cant the public?

    ALL State

This isnt the all-state selections everyone cares for and goes on their highlights anyways.
  17. I wonder if anyone think that team fro murfresssboro the team from Trousdale County has anything to do with it?
  18. Pujo is very astute. DCA and USJ will be the teams to watch. USJ gets everyone back next year that i know of and DCA might have a 2000 yards rusher. They have a good line returning thast has to be one oof the biggest ion the state along with the back. Dont count out CPA.
  19. We sure did tieing one national record and setting or tieing 9 state records for offense not a bad year. Ezell has some struglles late in the season and didnt make it. This years senior class 41-9 high school record i think they would take that. Fact of the matter is Ezell destroyed Boyd and Boyd improved alot but did they improve 27 points i dunno. CPA also did not play well and the coach even said it after the game. He thought they played tired. East TN is weak in football in my opiniion outside of Maryville. Boyd prolly finishes 3rd or 4th in the middle tn region because DCA would give them a run for their money.
  20. Skip Baldwin did a wonderful job asking Ronnie Carter a question about public-private, even if he did not get an answer That was in his post thought id spread some love.
  21. Question: Do you think the private schools could form their own viable assocation because its obvious that the TSSAA has to make the majority happy and the majority is the public schools. I dont think the TSSAA has the best interests of the private schools at heart, because they cant. I would rather have a multiplier. Answer: Barbara Dausch, head of St. Agnes, has been on the Board and Council for the past 4 or 5 years. It is as an exofficio member, representing the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools. She does not have a vote, but has a voice and is a part of all discussions. She is highly respected and has been serving longer than over half of our present Board and Council. I can assure you that the independent schools are well represented. The independent schools can form their own association at any point. We are a voluntary organization where schools join annually on a voluntary basis. They would only need to make sure they consider the ramifications of that decision, who administers their tournaments, does everyone join one association, etc. It is a little more complicated than first seen. Ronnie Carter Well at least we have someone in the building
  22. Most private schools were not founded till the 70's.
  23. They played CPA on a terrible field and bad condition not suited to their team. Boyd played CPA on what should have been their surface the turf and still lost. But since they both lost their last game of the season i think there woould be a tie for that. #1 is CPA and after that it really doesnt matter. Noone except Boyd fans will remeber in 2 years who came in second. [Edited by Chakra20 on 12-8-02 11:30P]
