The only team closer for the Meigs players would have actually been the team FROM Meigs......

Does anyone know how many of these girls are supposed to be going to McMinn County ??........just wondering............

I find it quite comical that McMinn is getting bashed on here by obviously someone who has influence over the kids who are zoned to go to McMinn but who chose not to. Lay off the Lady Cherokees..............

Does anybody know if Coach Roger Webb is working at York. If he is tell him some old friends in Meigs County wish him well.....

One correction......The McMinn Fire team DOES NOT play AAU....plays everything but AAU.......It is a very good recruit......I mean freshman class.......Wouldn't count the champion banner there just yet, though, because there should already be a couple hanging there.....and there AIN'T

Long time fan of Meigs here. A little about our team. In my opinion have kind of overacheived this year. Plays good defense, which has kept us in every game. Not a lot of speed so kind of methodical on offense. Like to run clock and win the time of possession. Coaching staff has done a great job this year with the talent they have. VERY dedicated, hard working staff. Our kids definately play hard from start to finish. In my opinion have too many players having to play both ways. But let me repeat...."HAVING" to play both ways....no choice......Hope it's a good, close game and am looking forward to coming to middle tennessee and NOT having to go to one of the private schools......Good luck Meigs...

I was right there on the two point conversion in doubt and it wasn't even close. The kid was a FULL half yard short of the goal line. Seems like your coach pulled a Randy Sanders and threw the ball in the flat instead of the end zone. And, by the way, if the Sweetwater players put half as much effort into actually playing the game as they did waving at the crowd then they would be much better off. QUIT CRYING !!!!!!!!!!

Calhoun High School in McMinn County. Closed in 1979. Never had a football team but used to dress out about 40 players in baseball. Never could understand that one.

1974 Baylor at Red Bank. Baylor was the defending mythical national champ and came to Red Bank with a 9-0 record. Red Bank was 8-1 and needed to win to make the playoffs. Game was tied at end of regulation 7-7. Baylor won 31-28 in five overtimes. That was the first year the overtime rule was used. The guy that kicked the winning field goal lived in Red Bank.

For the record......Meigs was 5 - 12 passing for 62 yards......

The BABY blue has not and WILL not beat the Tigers in several years.......this year is no exception......saying Robbinsville is a very good team is like saying Pigeon Forge is a very good team......we can say it but it JUST ain't true....... Tigers by AT LEAST 10.........

As a fan of a school who has been in WV's district since it became a school I find it VERY funny that there is any kind of bashing of another team's fans. If you have ever been to a Walker Valley basketball game you will know that their students are some of the rudest and most obnoxious fans anywhere. And, yes, several of them make it a point to sit on the visitor's side of the gym. Their administration seems to condone this behavior as we have complained several times and nothing is ever said to these fans. So, if you can't take the heat get outta the kitchen....What goes around comes around.....

From Meigs County and the first 4 were on the same high school team for 2 years.. Rachel Powell - 3 yr starter for Georgia Pam Irwin - 2 yr starter for Georgia and 6th man the other 2 Misty Greene - 3 National Championship rings at UT Heather Wilson - 3 yr starter at UAB Also........Debbie Trowbridge - 4 yr starter at College of Charleston When Lady Vols played Georgia in National Champ. Game in 1997 there were 3 girls from Meigs who played in that game.......CAN ANYBODY TOP THAT ?? These girls lost 8 games in the six years they all played in high school....Irwin and Greene won 2 state championsips......Powell, Wilson and Trowbridge one each..... Four straight Miss Basketballs.....Powell 92 and 93.....Greene 94 and 95

Don't kid yourself......Walker Valley will KILL Grundy tonight......will be over by halftime.......Grundy was in a lil trouble last night until that Freshman came in and lit it up in the fourth quarter.......Being from Meigs I sure am glad she didn't play the first three qts.......Question to Grundy fans.....is Shelbyville recruiting her yet ???

I disagree with that.....if I am not mistaken, McMinn Central has been a big speedbump to Region 4 AA in recent yrs. I also bet you could have asked Livingston last year how big a speedbump Walker Valley was....and they have everybody back this year....But it goes in cycles......from 91 to 95 Region 4AA wasn't even much of a bump for Meigs as they made 5 straight state appearances....winning 2

Tyner had better not overlook McMinn Central.........if they do it could be a district 5 sweep in the first round........if Meigs plays like their capable........but so far they have been Jekyll and Hyde all year......

Ain't Walker Valley still in East TN.....They are tough this yr. especially in AA ...but then again they should be .....they have twice as many students as everybody else they play......Wait till next yr. their bubble will burst hard.

Two great ones from Meigs County......Gary Moore, in 1975 gained 2100 plus yards and scored 33 TD's during undefeated regualr season. Probably just played in 25 of the 40 quarters because games were out of hand. Also, Gary Meadows still second in single season all purpose yards. In 1993 had 1500 rushing 600 receiving, about 500 in kickoff and punt returns....and throw in 2 Int. returns for TD......Best I saw play against Meigs Co. was Jermaine Copeland from Harriman. Played QB but was a great high school runner. Scored 42 pts. in a 42-28 victory over undefeated Meigs team in state quarterfinals.

The Big, Bad, Owls have a couple of good seasons in the past 50 years and now you want to talk smack about teams being afraid to play you. YEAH, RIGHT !!

O K.......I have been reading these posts for a few days now and it is time for me to throw my 2 cents worth in. As a long time supporter of a team in Region 3AA I have had a long look at Lipscomb and Goodpasture for a few yrs. now. Not since reallignment 4 yrs ago has a team from east tennessee (with the exception of Tyner) came even close to beating one of these teams. This year will be NO exception. Lipscomb will beat Alcoa, but it won't be by 49 points this year. They are just too well coached and plenty good enough athletically to hang the loss on Alcoa. Region 2 beats up on Region 1 every year in the first round of the playoffs and get a false idea of how good they are. They then beat on each other for a couple of rounds before they come to a REAL football team. Welcome to our world Region 2. Three teams from Region 3 have decided to move up to class 3A to get away from these schools. After Friday night, ya'll will be wishing you had done the same. Surprised is not the word I will be if Alcoa pulls out a win.....SHOCKED is more like it.

The only complaint I have is that the public schools have very little chance against these teams. Don't have the resources (million dollar weight rooms, paid strength and conditioning coaches. etc.). These teams should be playing teams with the same conditions. Just because you say you don't give financial aid doesn't make it a fact.

You are right on the magnet school thing. They supposedly have a lottery to see which students get selected. It seems the lottery must be loaded with 4.4 forty kids or 6'3" 280 lb. kids. Guess it is just lucky draw.
