  1. You guys are playing worse everyday, and you're playing like it's next week. USA Hockey Team Coach 1980
  2. Yes it can be done if the best interest of the player is kept in mind. Both coaches need to work together for the player's sake. Too many times coaches are selfish with players and think they have the only show in town. But, isn't it almost football time in tn. So play football. The basketball coach would have a fit if the football coach if the situation were reversed.
  3. You can never be too strong! Patton
  4. Maryville Central Powell Halls or Clinton Carter or West
  5. I believe that they have made the playoffs one other time in 4A, but it was the first time making them in Region 3.
  6. I don't know if they interviewed for the job or not, but they both are qualified. They both do great jobs with their respected defenses. You have to wonder if administrators realize that the old quote is true, "Defense wins Championships!"

    Gibbs

I don't think I would compare the results from "the changes" made at Austin East to Carter. AE won a state championship and Carter just made the playoffs. And didn't Gibbs beat Carter this past year for the first time in a while? The bottom line is that change in coaches alone is not the answer. Yes, it can give a program a jump start, but more times than not there are other issues. Issues like school system, administration, community, parent, and player committment to winning or at least giving programs a chance to win. Too many people like to point fingers at coaching staffs instead of asking what they could do to help give the program a better chance of being successful.
  8. Creatine, Protein, and a Multi Vitamin combined with a quality program will work.
  9. Congrats Coach Wagner!! Good Luck in Georgia. Yes, TN does lose another quality young coach to Georgia.
  10. Mark Briscoe at Rutledge does a great job!
  11. "The only place where success comes before work is the dictionary."
  12. There are many variations of goodmornings and the technique for each of them vary. The reverse hyper is a machine created by Louie Simmons of the Westside Barbell club. For more information on both visit www.elitefts.com I am not sure about goodmornings making your hip flexors tight, but I do know if you want a big squat you need to do them. But I also agree that you need to be more flexible to squat deep enough to get the benefits to be a better athlete. The one leg squats that I suggested will help with hip flexor flexibity. Good Luck
  13. Sorinex best equipment if you've got the money, but in Dynabody you will get the most for your dollar.
  14. BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR KNEES BEHIND YOUR TOES AT ALL TIMES! Box Squats (below parallel, sit back) One leg squats, make sure to get parallel with the one leg Goodmornings, with feet wide and then with them close Lunges Box Step Ups, make sure box is high enough Reverse hypers All of these exercises are good and will help your Squat. Another coaching point is to sit back on and push from your heels. Too many athletes try to squat with their heels off the floor. Good luck.
  15. During the first couple of weeks of Feb. This is the best time because it is before the spring sports get started. If you do have any injuries, they will have more time to recover before summer and the season. And finally, it also allows you more consecutive months of training going into the season without taking two weeks off at the end of the semester.
  16. The idea of the dead period sounds good but doesn't work. It sounds good to have two weeks during the year for athletes to "take a break." One of the problems are that many athletes will take those two weeks and a few more to go with it. Many parents cannot pick when they get to take their vacations, most are not during the dead period, so thier children will miss their family vacation week plus the dead weeks. Not to mention if they do attend a mission trip or go to any camps. The reason the timing is so important is because of when football practice actually starts. With all the recent deaths from the heat and workout related problems it doesn't make sense. Here they are just weeks away from opening their season in 90 degree plus heat with over twenty pounds of equipment on, why don't we just kick back for a couple of weeks and see who drops first. Yes the rule was set up because of basketball, mainly, but wouldn't it make more sense to try and regulate that problem? But if we must have a dead period it would really make to much sense to make each sport have it's own dead period relative to their season. Yes I know people would cheat, but people are cheating now. In the long run football isn't the most important thing in life, in fact it may not even be in the top ten. But what is important is the health of the athletes and the relationships and influences that they should be receiving from their coaches and teamates. When I had to deal with the dead period, I found that I missed my players and my players missed football. See for them summer workouts wasn't something that they had to do, it was something to do and somewhere to be. As coaches spend so much time trying to reach athletes and get them into their programs, they do not need TSSAA to telling them to sit at home. At some point school systems, principals, and coaches should be able to operate their programs using common sense, because obviously TSSAA doesn't.
  17. Do you run it out of double slot or the I? I agree the counter iso is a great play, along with the midline trap. It is so good because that 3 tech. that has been the read man, now gets ear holed. Thanks for the advice.
  18. Option football is the best. If you are going to run the option in high school you better run the midline, inside veer, and the lead option. The midline may be the best play in football.

    Region 3-4A

If I remember correctly, Carter has won 17 games over the last five years. 4 in 1998, 4 in 1999, 3 in 2000, 3 in 2001, and 3 this year. Carter has made the playoffs three of these 5 years, by winning 3 region games. Two of the three were in 3A football though. They should be excited about making it this year in this region.
  22. 1. Quarles 2. Satterfield 3. Coatney 4. Woods 5. Meadows
  23. I agree. Region 3-4A is the toughest or at least one of the toughest. Maryville, Central, Powell, and Halls all have great programs.
  24. Stopping the Wing-T has much to do with which part of the wing that the team you are playing is hanging it's hat on (sweep, trap, belly, down, option, etc.). Most teams have one play that they are going to try and run no matter what you do. You must stop that play and make them do something else. If a team can run it all good luck. I have had success running a multiple 5-3 scheme. I like to slant the front away from half back and/or to motion. I preach getting one yard penetration and slanting with our eyes open. Another thing one must teach a defense when defending the wing is what is coming out of certain formations. For instance if my Will linebacker sees the HB go away from him, he is immediately thinking counter and waggle. If you teach your skilled players to be smart football players the wing is easier to stop. I think it should be said that there is no gimmick that is going to stop the Wing-T, the only way you will stop it is with a sound scheme that doesn't very too much from what you normally run.
