  1. Why would the TSSAA and the TWF have any agreement? The TSSAA has no input on what the AAU and TWF do.
  2. Looked to see how they performed at DII nationals and they weren't listed. Assumed they had moved back to NAIA. Dug deeper and found that they didn't qualify a single wrestler for the tournament. I really hope they are graduating a high rate and taking care of the non wrestling parts of running the program, because from the outside it looks like a program on life support powered by women's wrestling. As someone who cares about Tennessee wrestling, I am concerned about this. Is anyone else?
  3. A good result from a Tennessee school performing well out of state and the thread details into this...disappointing. Can we just stop for a minute and appreciate a good wrestling squad from Tennessee making a mark up north?
  4. Does anyone know how long this investigation had gone on or when the allegation was made?
  5. Chattanooga can say that they would love to have it back. That is great. Nobody in the state was complaining about Mackenzie. It was a great venue. But it became very obvious that it wasn't that important to the community or the university to host it there. We lost the use of the facility twice when scheduled to be there. I don't recall the reason and it is not important anymore. However, if it were to return to Mackenzie, I would like to see the contract between the TSSAA and UTC. I think as much as the wrestlers deserve a good venue to compete in, they deserve more to not have to miss 3 days of school and wrestling their championship matches on a Friday night.
  6. I watched the match and it appeared to me that the lead official looked up at the assistant while looking for the pin and saw the assistant making the universal timeout sign. In wrestling ,referees use the "T" to signal for a technical violation. But, in the heat of the moment with the fans going nuts, what I think may have happened was he saw the sign and may have assumed that the assistant was telling him the period was ended. You might say they were only a minute into the match. But, anybody that has wrestled knows that time slows down when you are fighting off of your back. Having officiated, I know that when you are on the mat looking for a fall your concept of time is thrown off. So, I can understand how an official blows the whistle incorrectly when an assistant official makes a big deal of a technical violation by throwing up the "T" right behind the two wrestlers you are watching. It was an incorrect call and could have been the difference in the dual. However, Ryan had many missed opportunities in the dual that could have made the difference in the outcome.
  7. Could any of the more astute posters on this forum help me with a question I have had for years? Would it not be more appropriate to call it a wrestling "duel" instead of a wrestling "dual"? Is a wrestling match between two teams (def: a contest between two parties). Just seems more appropriate to me. Any comments or answers are appreciated. du·el /ˈduəl, ˈdyu-/ noun 1. a prearranged combat between two persons, fought with deadly weapons according to an accepted code of procedure, especially to settle a private quarrel. 2. any contest between two persons or parties. verb (used with object), verb (used without object), du·eled, du·el·ing or ( especially British ) du·elled, du·el·ling. 3. to fight in a duel. du·al /ˈduəl, ˈdyu-/ adjective 1. of, pertaining to, or noting two. 2. composed or consisting of two people, items, parts, etc., together; twofold; double: dual ownership; dual controls on a plane. 3. having a twofold, or double, character or nature 4. Grammar . being or pertaining to a member of the category of number, as in Old English, Old Russian, or Arabic, that denotes two of the things in question. noun Grammar . 5. the dual number. 6. a form in the dual, as Old English git “you two,†as contrasted with ge “you†referring to three or more. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/dual-vs-duel/
  8. Is McCallie hurting for money? Why not donate to a college club ar middle school?
  9. Sad indeed. Undermines the TWF, and its efforts for growth in putting on what should be the pinnacle tournament of offseason wrestling in the state of Tennessee.
  10. Is King not wrestling at DII this weekend? Couldnt find them on track.
  11. Youre an idiot. Wilson central is in the state finals. Soddy finished 3rd. End of subject.
  12. Im going to step out of character to razz somebody because they deserve it for trying to marginalize the accomplishments of another team....Cobrakid8 nananananana soddy lost to wilson central. Im not a wilson central supporter. But check this...there are no wilson central supporters on here trying to purport that wilson central would have beaten a full soddy squad. Did you just get sent home from state duals? just curious.
  13. Soddy wrestled with the guys that they put on the mat wilson central is in the finals. Soddy isnt. Doesnt matter the reasons. Cleveland may be the best in the state if they win. regardless, wilson central is the #2 team right now bubba. Start dealing with it.
  14. I have to assume that you do not read this forum very often.
  15. Many of college footballs highest individual trophys are awarded at the conclusion of the regular season... NOBODY CARES that they dont wait until the conclusion of the bowl season. There will always be people who feel left off of these type of lists. I am pretty sure (at least I hope) they use head to head and common opponents as the first and second criteria. Another rule that it looks like they use is that wrestlers are voted in the weight where the majority of their matches are not where they speculate they will wrestle the championship portion of the season. I would hope that most focused wrestlers are not focused on making or not making a team like this at this point. While it is a nice honor, there is still quite a bit of work remaining. With all that said, I can see arguments for at least two weights that have been talked about on here. Thats the nature of this type of award though.
  16. Topic title edit....Womens wrestling milestone.
  17. Im not knocking crossfit just to knock it. What I'm attempting to get across is there is a wealth of knowledge out there about wrestling strength training. Somebody with a wrestling background and training knowledge is going to be far superior at getting the most out of workout time than a "Crossfit certified coach". I have worked out at a Crossfit gym and I'll admit it was cool to see people jazzed up to workout and push one another. However, I saw a lot of negative and dangerous things happening.

    Mats

Authorities say a south Georgia high school student apparently climbed atop an upright roll of wrestling mats, fell into a center opening and died after he became trapped inside. Lowndes County sheriff's officials said Monday that 17-year-old Lowndes High School student Kendrick Johnson became lodged inside the roll of mats, upside down. His body was found Friday in the high school's old gym. Investigators say Johnson, who played football for the school, may have been trying to retrieve a shoe that fell into the mat. 'How can you go on when you have a beloved child who wakes up everybody in the house and makes a laugh out of everything, how can you go on? It's hard' - Kenneth Johnson, the teen's father, reportedly said Authorities say no foul play is suspected. Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine tells The Valdosta Times that an autopsy, his investigators and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found no signs of a struggle. He was upside down in the mat and is believed to have passed out due to the blood flow to his head for an extended period of time, which could ultimately lead to a stroke or heart failure, the report says. Although investigators do not believe foul play was involved, the sheriff said he and his investigators will continue interviewing students and friends who have additional information. Kenneth Johnson, the teen’s father, told WALB he believes his son was murdered. "I want to express how did my son go missing during school hours in broad daylight? We know our son was murdered while he was at Lowndes High School. We do know that," Johnson told the station. Anastasia Roe, the teen's aunt, said her nephew was a good student who ran track and played football. She said he was the life of the party, but reserved when he met new people. She said information that the family received from the school and the sheriff's office about how the teen was found was inconsistent, and that lead to some in the community to ask questions. "First we heard he was on the floor near the mat, then we hear he was wrapped in the mat," she said. "It's suspicious." A call from FoxNews.com to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office was not immediately returned. Johnson reported his son missing late Thursday night and his body was discovered Friday morning. The school was placed on lockdown after the discovery, WALB.com reported. "How can you go on when you have a beloved child who wakes up everybody in the house and makes a laugh out of everything, how can you go on? It's hard," Johnson told the station. 19. The gyms will build sports specific workouts? Give me a break. Most people running crossfit gyms have no education regarding strength training programs. They are oportunists who bought a franchise. Crossfit is great for adults looking for guidance to get into shape and be fit. But for athletes looking to get the most gain from their workout time crossfit is not the way to go.
  20. While crossfit is a good workout and they do a lot of good things, it is not a wrestling specific workout. Any strength coach can put together better workouts tailored specifically to wrestlers than the workouts that crossfit posts daily.
  21. How do you suggest running a individual tournament but then dividing team points based on classification? It cant work that way. To many variables for people to gripe about i.e. bracketing fairly across the divisions. And the simple fact that the team that scores the most points out of the three divisions is going to be considered the sole champion therefore overshadowing/downplaying the significance of the other two divisions team titles being that they wrestled in the same tournament.
  22. The way it will work is under a dual format. Invite the top guy from each weight class and have a DI vs. DII vs DI-A round robin dual. If the top guy turns it down go to the next guy down until you get a commitment. It doesnt need to be a tournament. Make an event out of it. Don't charge an entry fee for competitors. Do it in the preseason or early in the season similar to the NWCA all star meet in college. It will not work after the state tournament due to the TSSAA bureaucracy unless its done underneath the banner of USAW, AAU etc. CBG it does work in other states Ive witnessed one in particular. You dont always get the top guys from each division, but they dont always get the top 2 guys to compete at the NWCA all star meet and it doesnt take away from the entertaining matchups that take place.
  23. The D1/D2 split had very little to do with wrestling.
