  1. Girls do not belong on the mat. Period. However, because of the screwed up culture that we live in, they are allowed to be there. This being said. If you have a wrestler that loses to a girl, TOUGH S###. They will either get over it or quit. As a competitor, I have had to deal with girls in the practice room. My opinion on the subject...When a women stops acting like a woman, beat her I mean treat her like a man.
  2. Even at 112 or 119 Miller will be a contender. Jadoo?? is tough but Miller is as well schooled as any young wrestler I have seen in a while. I think even at 119 you cannot count this kid out of the hunt.
  3. How can you not include Jeremy Miller of Greenback in your predictions? Winning it last year would be enough but the kid is already one of the slickest wrestlers in the state.
  4. Rulon won because Karelin was forced to adjust to keep his hands locked in the clinch. Rulon did not and could not have scored an offensive point on Karelin. Karelin pushed on Rulon for the entire match. I consider the accomplishments of the 1984 Olympic team more than I do Rulon. If you dont follow you might want to look up the '84 team.
  5. Rulon accomplished a lot, do not get me wrong. But he never deserved to be an Olympic champion. Karelin was screwed over because Rulon was too fat for him to reach around. Rulon will always be a paper champ in my book. Karelin is the man and would have never lost to Rulon under the old Greco rules.
  6. Im sure this All-Results Camp is an excellent oppurtunity for kids to be around some of the best ever. However, the camps at MBA, Father Ryan and Beech all look like really good opportunities for kids to get first rate instruction at a cut rate price.
  7. Wrestling off of a knee is not stalling if it is done right. If someone does it against you, you simply need to hold your ground and control hands. Or just mirror their stance and drop to your own knee. Not that hard to deal with.
  8. My reply had nothing to do with you usfjim. I was referring to the clock situation. Jimmy Hiller and William Simpson both won state titles. William just knocked off a top 15 wrestler from Buffalo. Jimmy placed in the senior national tournament. If you wanna knock DII we can start another thread, but if you're smart youll leave it alone.
  9. Come on guys the humor in this one is lost in time somewhere about 2 yrs ago. Both young men involved in the incident went on to successful state tournament finishes.
  10. Hamm, You put in way too much time on the rankings to have these hardons like HSDAD get on here and complain about how there boy isnt ranked. People quit griping about rankings and thank god that you are involved in a sport where it does not matter. All that matters is the state tournament and it is not seeded according to rankings so don't worry about it. If your son/wrestler is not ranked then use it like the Waterboy as tackling/wrestling fuel. Who cares if you don't get ranked in November? Im afraid that someone might damage their keyboard from all the tears that are being shed on this thread.
  11. Dont get all hurt there Canedaddy. I am pretty sure that CBG must be a disgruntled former UTK wrestler. And the truth is that the vols had a heck of a program going when the rug was pulled out from underneath it by the AD. I am sure he is all for UTK having a club team, but wouldnt it be great if we could go back to when they had a real team. Look at some of the great kids that the state has lost in the past couple of years to outside states. UTK has a whole lot more to offer as a university than UTC and would more than likely have pulled some of the great wrestlers of the last 5-6 years.
  12. There are guys on club teams that should be wrestling for DI schools? Wow didnt realize that the club level was soo stacked. Dude just compete for fun it really dont matter if youre in the best shape, but I would bet if you just practice you will lose some fire for what youre doing.
  13. Bundy would need to try to fit into the lineup at 141 if he wants a shot at starting next year. The learning curve is huge and by next year I would expect to see Dunning at 133 beating out Baughn. I would say that Bundy would not beat Dunning in a wrestle off next year at 133. Bundy is very tough but I foresee him having problems adjusting to college wrestling. He will need to learn how to keep better position.
  14. Stove, This is a valid point and also very near to the heart of title the IX debate. Give more women opportunities and take more away from the men. Or, just take them away frome the men.
  15. hey stove do you have a special button on your keyboard that you press that spits this stuff out? I love it man stir it up a little more.
  16. I am all for sportsmanship but it makes me even more sick to see guys walk off the mat after losing and theyre not even upset off. Personally I would rather see a kid drop kick a chair than see him walk off the mat like nothing just happened.
  17. How do you cheat on the hydration? Youre either hydrated or you aint. I guess you could squeeze one of those big turkey basters into your jockeys and fill it up with water or something.
  18. I think that it is insane that people think that you can throw out a number like 5-8 lbs. and that alone is scary. i am all for safety but up until a few years ago there was never a problem football has had so many more deaths than wrestling. Taking weight cutting out of wrestling is like taking the forward pass out of football. No it is not necessary to play the sport but it is part of the sport. The way that the TSSAA wants these kids to manage their weight with the new rules is impracticle and probably more detrimental to their health. I would bet that there are more than a few out there "cheating" the new rules. But I couldnt blame them.
  19. Dispute. College wrestling. Not for sure but I believe that TN is turning out more high profile college wrestlers.
  20. Seriously do most of the people out there really want wrestling to be split up into 5 divisions +DII. 6 State champions in wrestling with over 80 indiv champions is too much.
  21. A few issues on here: You claim there is a shortage of wrestling officials and that the ones that you do have need more training. Its going to be hard to promote growth if you require officials to take a larger amount of their time to go to classes. They don't get paid enough to take more time out of their schedules. Wrestling is a poor sport and that is all there is too it. Officials do what they do because they love the sport. The money is not worth having to deal withsome of the fans and coaches. Wrestling officials in the midwest are not too far ahead of the referees in TN. Yes they probably have more college certified officials. But there is no special training that you have to do to become a college certified official. And if you have ever wrestled in the midwest and are from the south will understand this. Riding in high school is very different. A midwest official will hit you for stalling if you ride a crossbody and a neckbar and are trying to turn, but riding an ankle must be considered a pinning combination up there. CBG makes a good point. There is a lack of officials with a college wrestling background. Im not saying that having wrestled in college is a prereq. for being a good wrestling official, but it definitely helps. What can a coach that may or may not have wrestled in high school possibly have to say to a referee that busted his butt in college learning the ins and outs of the sport when he takes him to the table? Example: Two pretty bad wrestlers were flailing all over the mat. During a flurry, one kid applied a keylock on the other and cranked it. The veteran ref stopped the match and penalized the kid a point and was about to explain why when the coach headed to the table and started blasting the ref. The ref tried to explain but the coach had no idea what a keylock even was. The reffing in TN is not as bad as you guys think it is our guys do their best. All of this complainingis sure to inspire others to want to be referees in TN so lets keep that up.
  22. I am going to have to agree. The McCallie Invite has to be the toughest tourney in December. It may be the toughest tournament in the Mid-South of the entire wrestling season. Look at the college wrestlers who have participated in this tourney in the recent past. Yost, McKnight, McCarty, The Simpsons, The Dunnings, The Keefes, The Praters, The Marables etc. I believe that it is tougher to win the McCallie tourney than to win the state tourney regardless of classification. How many four timers have there been at the McCallie tournament? And, have there been any multiple time OW's? How many times have we seen state champions knock heads in the finals of this tournament?
  23. Phillip is in the WCAP. I am pretty sure that he will be based in Ft Carson, CO, which is all but in Colorado Springs. Being that the freestyle WCAP is as weak as it is, I am guessing that Phillip will spend most of his time training at the OTC. To my knowledge, athletes in the WCAP are active duty but are not in a typical Army unit. Is Kyle James doing anything for an education in Colorado Springs?
  24. Lucky? Heres the problem with that statement. You may be right, but I believe that there are many coaches who wrestle their kids too much. This is an opinion, but these kids with 50+ matches in a year may be more experienced than the kid with 35 in a year but peaking in Feb after wrestling that much is a lot more difficult. Maybe you guys are the ones that are lucky.
  25. A simple visit to the USMA website reveals that Patrick Simpson is listed at 149 pounds this year on the roster. I dont know who projected that he would remain at 141, but it appears that they are misinformed. No TN matchup at 141 again this year at EIWA's.
