  1. Good post, but college doesn't really compare to high school. All those college teams are playing with recruits who were the best players on the field in high school. College coaches can pick those that fit their system best. Even the lower-ranked teams have highly skilled and conditioned athletes. High school coaches, at least the honest ones who dont bend the rules, have to take the players that get off the bus. Motivation does make a good team play better, but in high school, David rarely gets to slay Goliath. In high school, I agree with formercoach81 that talent is the best measuring stick. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

  3. Coach Hill is a great coach, but you'd be lucky if he stays for more than a couple of years. He left OC to go "home" to his alma mater, took a 2-8 team when he got there to 5-5, and then to the state championship game his second season, then flew the coop. He left OC in 2003, has had two more stops, and is looking again? His teams put up some points and are fun to watch, but if he does come to UC, you'll be right back in the same situation in two years. He seems to take struggling teams with no expectations (pressure), build them up, and leave when the expectations come along. UC doesn't need that; they need stability ( sound like any other athletic programs in the area? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> ). Thats not a knock on Hill personally, as he is a good man. Kids like him and play hard for him. Barnes, Shanks, Bowling, or Ward would be better fits long-term. Just my opinion.
  4. I couldnt agree more. I know all the OC transplants personally, and I will tell you- What you see is what you get. They are the same behind closed doors as they are to the public. We in Obion County were unfortunate to lose them, and Dyersburg should be offering them the key to the city to keep them there. All are CLASS individuals. Our loss is a BIG gain for the Golden Trojans. Go Rebels!
  5. Can you say coaching? Forget the players. Haywood will be just as fast on the field, but will have no clue about what to do to stop the Trojans. When Boling was up at OC, he could hang with Haywood, but now that he has some horses, Dyersburg will win easliy. It may be close for a quarter, or maybe even a half, but in the end, the men in black will run away with it. Dyersburg 38 Haywood 14
  6. This post reminds me of a good ol' saying my grandad used to say, "It’s better to remain silent and though of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." You really want to talk about win / loss records?? For the past few years?? When you point that finger at OC about the "mediocre football team, an even worse recent past men's basketball team," remember there are three fingers pointing back at 'cha. Thats not a cheapshot at those teams. I know they are working their tails off. But, come on, don't carry a butterknife into a swordfight.
  7. which one? didnt 3 of them (lake road and ridgemont and black oak) all play at occhs?
  8. Obion is just not very good right now.......maybe it will pick up pretty soon.
  9. How did Upperman do this weekend at Franklin Co.'s playday?
  10. The block was nice. One of the hardest hits I've seen in many, many years at the middle school level. The question is why was Ridgemont's coach calling onside kicks, running the swinging gate and hook and ladder and passes, and keeping starters in until the last minute with a 34-12 lead. Some of Ridgemont's younger kids should have played for more than 1:22. Lake Road could have put in younger kids, but why risk an injury to a small guy playing against RMs starters (who should have been off the field)?? I know RMs #s are down, but there were enough players to take out some of the starters, your son(who is a really good athlete and player) included. Ridgemont has a good team, theres no question, but the coaching staff should be ashamed. What goes around comes around.
  11. Good Job Spring Hill Lady Hornets. Rick Smith is a GREAT coach. HE took a team that only won 4 games last year and they won 20 this year. Thats awesome. Maybe he can coach high school in the future. MAybe when Russell Retires. Great job ladies
  12. I was at the game last night. Doaks got his 4th foul on a questionable call that could have easily been a steal, but was called a foul. All of this occurred on the free throw line on Lake Co.'s end of the floor. Doaks then went the length of the floor and dunked on his own end. If he had been whistled for the foul on his own free throw line and then gone 15 feet for the dunk, then I think nothing would have been said. In fact, that happened earlier in the game with no call. But to go the length of the floor and make a scene is uncalled for. Out of frustration or not, that should not be and was not allowed. Trenton seemed to be lackadasical all night, and with Doaks's ejection, a bad situation for them got even worse. Trenton fans (and Sisco himslef) should consider themselves lucky that he wasn't tossed along with Doaks. It took alot of restraint by Dan Boykin to not show Clint the door. Just my honest, unbiased opinion. I have no ties to either school, but went looking for a good game last night and was not disappointed. Lake County played the better game and last night they were the best team on the floor.
