  1. Gary Keith of Cloudland gets my vote. He took over for a powerhouse program that only had one returning starter. People were predicting that they would go 0-10 or 1-9 and they finished up being 6-5 and all of the kids feel that it is a tribute to their coach. Keith also had open-heart surgery over the summer and managed to heal himself and a program that was reeling over the loss of their former coach and their all star graduates. He didn't have any all-americans this year but the took these boys and turned them into class A football players who are glad they didn't quit when others did. He truly is a great coach. He has been an assistant for 25 years and this was his first year as head coach. He has done an outstanding job!
  2. Hey coach17, I wouldn't even have replied to this post if I were you. It sounds to me from their name that they have a grudge that they need to work on on the hardwood, not be a posterior themselves on a board. I have the upmost respect for you coach, if you're the coach I think you are. Best of luck this season. Hey devil, ever heard of spellcheck?
  3. Here is a chics opinion who's alma mater recently phased out football...in this situation, at ETSU, it had nothing to do with T-9. NOBODY came to the football games. The college was spending too much to keep it afloat. I miss it, I went to the games, but they had to do something. I wish they had turned it into a non-scholarship so we could still have the sport, but they just chose to dump it. What would be fair to everybody, men and women, would be for each sport to be self-supporting. Give X amount of dollars to each, no matter how large or small the sport, and let them figure out to come up with the rest. On the collegate level, sports is an extra. In our great state alone, tuition at state colleges have went up how much over the past 10 years? A huge amount. I don't think it is right to dump a mens program just to fund a women program, but at the same time, it is extrememly unfair for men programs to get the bulk of the funding. I would hate to be an AD in this day and age. But for someone to say that women dont deserve the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level is flat out sexist. Athletics is a means of opportunity for kids who would never get into college without a scholarship. I agree that wrestling is a great sport and should not have to be sacrificed. But whoever said that cheerleading and dance should be a scholarship sponsored sport is crazy. I was a REAL athlete, basketball and I participated in field events. I just dont respect those, uhum, groups in the same way as I did my fellow lady athletes. But I also wouldn't attempt to play football of wrestle. I am too femine for that. But hey, if a chic can roll with the boys and hang, by God let her. It's her body she is banging up. It is hard to be fair to eveybody, but you guys need to see what T-9 was really for. When you have daughters yourselves one day, you will understand. But I will admit that some women take advantage of the law, which makes those of us who are just appreciative to have the opportunity to play look bad. And I agree that administrators use the law as an excuse to dump programs. I agree with cw 160, but I am one of those few who do watch WNBA. (Hey boys, they flat out play better defense then NBA does.) If a program, collegiate or pro, cannot support itself, it is time to move on to something that does. Period.
  4. I am glad to hear it ... uh... Storm55. I am sure that you will be there tonight, right? thumb
  5. I agree Maynardette! I have a feeling it won't be that deep on Friday! thumb
  6. COLD, COLD and more COLD. Everybody better bundle up for this one! Best of luck to both teams. I know it will be THE region 1/2 game to see. Have a safe trip up to the Mtn. Oneida! I will be there without a doubt. I wish the King could put in his 2 cents worth. I have to say I miss him on here. He always made the posts...mmm.. lively! LOL. thumb
  7. Go Region 1 Teams! thumb Represent!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Check the Elizabethton Star site, www.starhq.com. That is Unaka's local paper.

    avery game

double check that for us would ya Kim
  10. Unaka's only loss of the season has come from Cloudland. They have beaten N. Greene and Cosby already. N. Greene has already beaten Jellico. They would be tied in the conference with Jellico, should they win, which I don't think they will. Cosby is the only team as of now who already has three conference losses. If I figure it right, if they lose PERIOD on Thursday they are out, regardless of what happens elsewhere. N. Greene and Jellico both have two conference losses. PS-I don't see N. Greene or Unaka losing this week.

  12. In defense of Starman, he is just pulling for the kids, no matter who they play for, which is something people need to be doing no matter where you live or what school you cheer for. They are kids, right? To those who are still fuming over last year game, I cant say that I blame you but this is a new team with a new coach and you cant bash them for what happened in the past. I am sure this will burn some people up but best of luck to the Rangers and the Landers!!!

    hey coacht

Ah...I found them. I was trying to search on the homepage articles link and then searching. Doing that, the newest article was from 2003. Those links may just need updating. I am still learning to surf around on here. www.starhq.com, www.johnsoncitypress.com, www.greene.xtn.net, www.timesnews.net pretty much covers upper east TN. I actually do write for one of my local papers. I have tried to find information on teams that our Region 1 girls may come up against past the regionals and I have had a hard time. Don't get me wrong, love the football, but I love soccer too. Thanks for the direction. thumb I would be happy to pass along the regional story links on this thread has they happen this week.
  15. I sure hope that this thread stays so polite. LOL. Best of luck to both teams. It will be a great game whoever wins.

    hey coacht

I know that I would like to be able to get on here and look at soccer articles posted from other areas and I would like to see our local girls here get some attention through posting links to articles on girls soccer. There is not one article link for this season.

    Unaka @ Cloudland

This should be the best game in the county this season, but I say the Landers by 10. Best of luck to both. i know that I will be there.
  18. I haven't seen PF but they will have to contend with the home field and the home crowd. I know that EHS wants this bad after they defeated UH last week. I can't as easily predict this one. I can say that I will be on the Cyclone side of the field.
  19. Doak by two. UH is young and I don't think they have the experience. I also predict at least two from each team hurt. They are both very aggressive. They will be beatin and bangin in this one.
  20. I can't wait for the regionals to start on Tuesday. Homefield advantage is what they have been striving for. Best of luck Lady Cyclones and congrats to Sam. Has anyone noticed that coacht is a little lax when it comes to posting soccer articles? Is there anyway someone can recommend an article posting?
  21. not offensive..just stereotypical. We don't all rant you know. At least I don't.

    Unaka vs Cosby

I think Cosby is going to get two good whoopins in the next two weeks by our Carter County boys. I think Unaka and Cloudland will send them home with two more losses. Best to both teams!
  23. LOL..It okay. We all have issues. I am not trying to pick on you or anything, I just think this isn't the place for a guy vs. girl argument, or how old someones girlfiend is. This should be all about the game, ya know what I mean? thumb
  24. Cyclones will have to play some serious D to stop Eads. He may be the best QB around right now. Unless the Cyclones build a wall, East 24-13.
