  1. New coach at Gibson County is Ronnie Burke. He was been an assistant coach at the high school level before he became the Gibson County head coach. He also has coached the Tennessee Blue Devil baseball team featuring players from across West Tennessee very successfully the last few summers. He has a son who plays and pitches for Huntingdon's baseball team that made it to the Boro last year. Gibson County has gone through a few years of new coaches every year. They now have an excellent coach and a great guy. Don't really know what talent level in Gibson County is this year, but they should play hard and be fundamentally sound. Good luck to Gibson County and Coach Burke this year.
  2. Liberty won three close games vs Hardin County last year and lost a close game to Munford, beat JCM and I don't think they played Brighton. Only returning 4 or 5 starters so some of the young guys will have to step up and fill some spots. As mentioned earlier, lost 5 seniors, some who had been 4 year starters since the school's first season, so they will be difficult to replace. Being new to the district, don't know much about other teams other than the few times I saw 13aaa teams last year, but Liberty should field a competitive team and if some of the young guys come through could contend.
  3. Has Lexington moved their fences back? I heard a rumor the fences were bing moved back. Pretty good hitters park over there in the past.
  4. Then you know as much as you did before you started this thread--NOTHING. Fortunately, the fact you have never heard of Bax or Martin Methodist means nothing--except highlighting your lack of knowledge.
  5. Bolivar, Lexington and USJ will be among the best West Tennessee teams (outside of Shelby County) this year in AA.
  6. Lexington will be loaded. Return almost entire team from last year as does Bolivar. Lexington and Bolivar should battle it out for district championship and both make big noise in AA this year. As for the new guy self promoting himself here, hopefully you will fit in well and be successful and be able to contribute to the Tigers this year.
  7. What a crazy year. Do the Vols have 1 more surprise in them? Terrible start to season with a defense that couldn't stop any body, getting beat by Cal and then trounced by Florida, looked like long sad season. Totally dominated Georgia, went on road and beat MS State, Florida lost to Auburn and LSU--Has UT turned corner and have a chance at SECG? Embarrassed by Bama, back to despair, beat South Carolina but only after a miserable second half and blowing 21-0 lead. But Florida loses to Georgia, and control own destiny--but no way this team can win out. A week after Arkansas had rushed for over 500 yards against SC, UT's defense again in question after Bama and SC games, no way Ut can stop D mac and Jones. Tennesse dominates Arkansas, plays outstanding defense and now is only 2 wins from SECG. Optimism returns. Sluggish effort against Vandy, have to come back from 16 point deficit to barely beat Vandy. Only 1 more W, but no way this team can shut down KY's offense. Tennessee plays lights out defense, leads 24-7 at half, looking like Atlanta, but 2nd half falters, Kentucky ties game and goes overtime. the overtime has it's own ups and downs but in the end UT makes 1 more play than KY and are headed to SEC Championship game. Can they beat LSU? Common sense says no, so I think that means yes, right? You have to get to the championship game to win the thing, so might as well win.
  8. 7 AAA Bolton/Liberty Brighton/Arlington
  9. What a difference a couple of weeks make. I don't know exactly what to make of Tennessee's domination of Georgia in all aspects of the game, but I liked it. What does this mean? Looking at schedule now, it looks pretty managable. Some tough games--some toss ups, but no game that would take a major upset to win. Has the UT team "turned the corner" or was last Saturday just one of those days when everything went right, or is Georgia that bad? My opinion is they are neither as good as they looked against GA nor as bad as they looked against Florida. The question is are they good enough to beat MS ST, S Carolina, Bama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Vandy. If they can beat SC and KY, they will have tiebreaker over GA, SC and KY and they will all have at least 2 conferences losses. If Florida loses one more conference game, UT could actually lose 1 of the other 4 conference games and go to SECG if the loss was not to SC or KY. OF course, they "control their own destiny", win em all and they get a ticket to Atlanta. So what do you think? I'm taking a wait and see attitude, but at least the attitude has changed from depression to cautious optimism.
  10. The only thing that scare me about Georgia is the running game. What scares me more is Tennessee's defense and special team coverage. I definitely give UT a solid chance. But there are a few If's to overcome. If the defense can slow the Georgia run occasionally I don't fear their passing game. I like UT's offense against Georgia's defense. If can get through the game without GA scoring a defensive or special teams touchdown. I don't see how there could be a miracle turnaround on Defense and ST, but I am holding out optimism for enough improvement to get to mediocre. I think if UT can "step up" to mediocre play on defense and ST, the offense can produce enough to win this game.
  11. My son is running cross country. He has recently had 3 top 10 finishes in various meets. Most of the schools from our area compete in all the same meets and people have informed me that the top 10 finishers from a region? qualify for state. I have looked on TSSAA Website and see dates, etc, but my questions is: Is there a listing of regions for cross country and what is criteria for qualifying for state tournament--is it top 10 in region. The schedule has the region scheduled for Oct 26 and stae Nov 3. Any information would be helpful.
  12. I have been a UT fan for over 40 years so I have seen down times before. I do not "settle for mediocrity" but I do choose to burn the optimistic candle as much as possible. I am not very optimistic about this season at this point and have doubts about a quick turnaround. I am more in the hope mode now. I hope the Vols can turn this season around to be at least a decent season. I hope to see a SEC championship on the horizon soon. I really don't care who coaches the team as long as the team is reasonably successful. I am not unreasonable enough to expect SECC every year, but I do expect to contend most years and win one occasionally. Losing to Cal and Florida on the road would be a tough pill to swallow under any curcumstances, but getting manhandled and not being able to tackle makes you seriously worry how bad this defense really might be. Hopefully can beat Ark State, get the bye week, look at the film and work like heck and get better and beat Georgia and go on to a good season. I'm hoping but not holding my breath. If this season totally bombs, I will be there next year hoping this is the year for the turnaround. It's the only thing I can do. I am a UT fan and will continue to be. It's like your kids, no matter how much they screw up and you get mad at them, they're still your's and you love em. After all I have had to wait over 10 years for a UT SECC before. Just hope I live to see another.
  13. What time is kick off. I will be in Paris at my daughter's soccer game, might slide over and check out the game.
  14. Hey, Sol, finally made it to .500 2 games out 5 games left with the Cubs Brewers Look finished 20 more wins probably puts the birds in playoffs.
  15. What has happened to JCM (the shcool, not just the football team) the past 5 or 6 years is truly depressing. At the turn of the century, JCM was the top public school in Jackson both academically and athletically. It was a school of 1700 or so students and a 5A football team that was a force to be reckoned with even in 5A. When the magnet schools came along, many of JCM's teachers and many students became Madison and Liberty students. The school was also abandoned by the school system as all repairs and equipment went to the new schools. For instance, JCM was left with no lab equipment, it went to Madison. As conditions deteriorated, the flight from JCM fed upon itself. My oldest son went to JCM, but left and went to Madison for his senoir year so he could have AP classes thus giving up his senior year of sports eligibility. Seeing first hand the problems at JCM, I have 2 children zoned for JCM that are magnet students at Liberty and as I mentioned 1 who graduated from Madison. Seven years ago there was no doubt in my mind all 3 of my children would graduate from JCM. The circumstances made it so there were less and less reasons to go to JCM. I also helped contribute to the flight from JCM. Now JCM is down to 800 students or so (an estimate). They have trouble finding enough players to play many sports they have always played. The whole school has suffered and has been left behind by the school system. This is what is going on at JCM IMO. And it distresses me that this once proud school has deteriorated.
  16. Actually form the TSSAA handbook: If inelligible student has an athletic record for previous or current school year in football, basketball, girls softball or track and field, student is inelligible in all of these sports. In all other sports ineligibility applies only to particular sport in which the inelligible student has an athletic record in the previous or current year. So unless rules have changed playing one of these sports (baseball in your question) makes student inelligible for baseball, basketball, football and track and field, but eligible for any other sport. This ineligibility ends 1 year from last date of athletic record from previous school.
  17. Good hire, Congrats to Caoch Burke.
  18. Good luck, Drew. But what are they going to do in Drewkenzie.
  19. Every time I write them off they make al little run and every time I think they might get back in it they take a slide. Who knows? A win today and 2 1/2 back. The more I see, I don't think Milwaukee will win. Possibly a Cubs/Cards battle.
  20. Who will be the starting QB this year for Liberty?
  21. If the Cardinals could pull off a 5-1 week against Pirates and Nats, would be at .500 just 4 or 5 games back, Brewers are fading, Cubs are looking pretty good but they are the Cubs, who knows? 85 wins may win this division, Cubs look like they have the best shot, but as I said, they are the Cubs.
  22. You've got to play the better player. But the underclassman has to better. If it is close or a toss up, being a senior should give you the tiebreaker. But if it's that close both should play, the underclassman needs to be ready to play next year. Sometimes other factors such as attitude, hustle and knowledge of the game or a position may factor into decision. But in my opinion, you shouldn't start just because you are a senior if there is an underclassman who is better. But remember the coach may have many reasons for who he starts, and right or wrong, he is usually going to start who he thinks gives him the best chance to win.
  23. I didn't think I would have to post on this subject again, but you are so full of misinformation I feel you need my help. I W I L L T R Y T O T Y P E S L O W L Y S O Y O U C A N U N D E R S T A N D. First, you have posted no facts, just your opinion (which you are entitled to), that you have seen no indication this player has the discipline ot technique to play on Saturday. I or Yanker ot anyone else can say he does and this would be just opinion. Unfortunately for you there is a FACT involved. He has committed to Ole Miss therefore proving with fact there is definiitely an "indication he can be "playing on Saturday". Opinions are one thing but facts are hard to get around, although you are trying. The player in question has committed, which means both he and the SEC school have agreed verbally he will play there. The only correct thing you have said all day is it is not binding. Many players get offers that are then pulled, but after they have committed, the school can (but does not because they would like to trusted in the future) but does not rescind the offer after committment. Players often do, but this does nothing for your argument since it would be to accept another offer. So much for your "in the Know". What is your definition of "elite". Any player that gets an offer from a SEC school is an elite High School player. Players do not always live up to expectations when they get to college. But they were elite players or they would have never got the ship--they only give 25 a year, pretty elite. No one ever said he would be an elite college player (he may be or may not be), but he will barring some non football realted issue be playing on Saturday. The elite is not based on fact but on one's definition of elite. So I will let you keep your opinion that a football player who has committed to SEC school to play football is not elite, although I (and anyone with any common sense at all)disagree with this opinion. If you want to try to change your argument and deflect your error by saying grades, off the field issues, injuries might keep him out, that is true of any athelete in high school and unfair to speculate about a student athelete of which you have no knowledge. This is a s clear and simple as I can make it--I hope I didn't get too fast for you and you can understand. Everything stated in this post is factual. I plan on not posting on this subject again (but that's what I said last time). It is a waste of my time to explain these things to you, so hoplefully I have enlightened you enough so you can check your facts before you post and won't have to waste so much of your time trying to explain away your posting errors.
  24. Nobody YANKED your chain, Yanker Justdontno don't no much, but what justdontno don't no, justdontno don't post. Everthing I have posted has been factual.
