Agree with most of this...all open zoned schools don't offer the same thing. All public schools are technically open zone, with the restrictions coming from their own administration. Our school is open zone, but do not accept out of county because we're at capacity...should our enrollment drop, then we would accept out of county with a tuition that covers taxpayers cost...that's our policy. If we chose to adopt a closed zone policy, it would be our own doing and of no consequence to the TSSAA. That's what most of the closed zone posters don't realize...that restriction is self imposed...if they don't like it, they can change it.

Trezevant to forfeit all games; will have an audit on grades
tradertwo replied to Galilee's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
You know what...I'm not done yet!!! After thinking about this some more, It's really sad that people care more about kids "giving" their school a state title than the school giving the kids what they need to be successful in life. These teachers/coaches involved have missed the opportunity to inspire these kids to learn...instead they have taught them that it's ok to lie and cheat in order to get ahead, or to get what they want. Get a good football career out of them for yourself, and send them into the world to fail because you didn't care for them enough to actually help them...everyone involved deserves to be terminated. -
I don't think so...all publics are open zone to TSSAA...their own respective school boards voted to be "closed zone".

Trezevant to forfeit all games; will have an audit on grades

Technicality??? No matter what you'd like to believe, the kids don't attend school in order to play sports. The spirit of the rule broken is that football (in this case) is denied the student in order to motivate them to achieve better grades. Four years ago Scotts Hill had the best shortstop in the region...his whole existence was based on baseball, and he let his grades slip. Credit recovery was available, but he fell short by less than one point...rather than "persuade" one of his teachers to give him "the benefit of the doubt" and alter just one of his grades, school administrators and his coaches saw to it that he sat out his entire junior season. This kid is now in college on a baseball scholarship...and on pace to graduate. Whether or not he can play baseball professionally has not been decided, but he will have a degree no matter what. If not for baseball, he would now be a high school dropout (from his own mouth)...that isn't a technicality. -
I'm not sure...never been in that situation. I will say that he's probably a man of character for saying so, and that if he'd picked his son's team it wouldn't change the score of the game. If I remember correctly, he had good things to say about LC, and that they could win if they played well.Too many kids are coddled and lied to these days...it just might make the kid play/practice harder to hear the truth as his dad sees it, instead of telling him that they would win by 30.

Workin' on that for ya'.

But we do agree...I understand the sacrifice of investing in your child's future, when you could easily send them to a public and have a new automobile. You are looking at the public/private issue from a parent's point of view...do the best for your own, and I admire everyone for sacrificing for the greater good of their children. From the TSSAA's point of view...there are many dynamics that are favorable for private schools to cultivate an advantage over public schools while remaining within the guidelines of the rules. I also hope that the option to decide where your kids attend school remains your own, and that if you choose the private sector, your kid's team competes against other private schools to win a championship.

It takes a special man to build a program...I didn't say coach because lots of good coaches don't connect with the kids. Wayne Co. (and others) has tradition...kids grow up dreaming of wearing that helmet and playing on their home field in front of their fans and family...no recruiting necessary. Other places don't have that luxury...coaches have to gain the kid's respect (not friendship, as some believe) before they'll commit to all the time and hard work. Coach Stroup at SH has built that sort of relationship with the kids...he genuinely cares for them as people, and works as hard to show them love and support as he does to teach them the game. Some "troubled kids" have already gone through the program, and more than one teacher has commented that football has turned them around. Not football...the football family that's been built here. Not knocking your coach...don't have an idea of how he is with the team. When the program represents something that kids want to be part of, they'll come. Not talking about winning either...that came after the "family" part here at Scotts Hill. I think that the Perry County fans will remember that from the Tucker years...the respect and courtesy that those PC teams had for "my" Lions when we were nothing but doormats impressed me a lot, and showed that they were that kind of team...hope that you can get back to that place soon.

Waverly and Scotts Hill control their own destiny in region 5. Lewis Co. can win region by winning out and Scotts Hill suffering two losses. Riverside can win region by winning out and Lewis Co. suffering one loss. Hickman Co. and Loretto already have two losses and would lose tiebreakers. The games this week featuring Wavo and SH have the potential to be upsets...both Lewis and Riverside have the offenses to score some points, and the defensive players to create turnovers. Don't think that either has the defense to stop SH/Waverly often enough to win straight up, but with a few breaks who knows?

I don't get the whole "argument" thing...even the public schools decide how much their coaches are paid. There are many differences between publics/privates, and though the amount being discussed is monstrous compared to what the public systems are used to seeing, the ability to choose the coaches salary isn't one of them. Don't get me wrong...no public could justify anything as astonishing as $600,000 (not sure that Ensworth can, but that's not my business), but there's a wide margin between the lower and higher ranges of public coaching stipends for doing the same job. If Ensworth (or any other private school) has the funding to afford it, the administration accepts the responsibility of the decision, and they value winning to that degree...more power to them.

Lewis Co. has the potential to challenge Waverly. They have some athletes, they're well coached, and they have some speed. I didn't make the Waverly game last year, so I'm going off scores and talk on the boards with this, but I think the Tigers have too much talent to lose this game, but if LC plays well they could keep it close.

South Pittsburg vs Sale Creek (Grider against this Cox man)
tradertwo replied to Roy Dillard's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
Roy...for once I think that you might be joking. Great to see Sale Creek getting their program started, but they're not ready for this. -
We've already faced one QB like that Reitz, and he beat us. Don't want to disrespect anyone, but I don't think that we'll see any throws this week that the Wayne Co. QB couldn't make, and no way that he's the caliber runner either. A tough game is what I expect...I also expect to run the ball enough to wear down the Panthers D, and stop their passing game enough to get the win. Our football program is in it's infancy, but these two schools have a long and very heated rivalry (I haven't forgotten our players and fans being pelted with little plastic basketballs a few years back)...I expect every ounce of effort in the Panther's bodies and every bit of their will to be expended against us...if we don't match that it could be a long short drive home.

Lions make the trip to take on the Panthers...Lions won big last season, but Riverside has a new coach and their great QB healthy for this one. I think Scotts Hill pounds the ball to open up the passing game, and stops Riverside's offense enough to get the win. Everyone else?

First, the "suspension"...I like that TSSAA doesn't allow players to run from discipline. Everyone knows that the player and family moved to allow him to play somewhere. The move was legit as far as anyone knows as far as the "change of address" clause, and was approved by TSSAA, yet South Gibson was not contacted or did not approve him to play. Justice was done. Now the game...Lexington should have won this game easy without the running back from Chester Co. participating. Maybe it was just one of those games that you get through with the win and move on, but if it's a barometer of how good they actually are they will probably squeak into the playoff's, and be one and done. Both feeder programs have been loaded with talent for the past few years, and the Tigers should be showing that on the field now...hopefully they can gel and be ready to play to their potential when it matters most.

Jackson Christian comes to Scott's Hill
tradertwo replied to shlionsbaseball5's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
42-13 final. Pretty good showing from the Lions, but still put the ball on the ground too much...gave them 6 on a long scoop and score then blocked the extra point. Three fumbles and lost two, but one of them was legit...helmet right on the ball. JC is a scrappy bunch, and the QB is good...runs very well and got his passes on target after the first quarter. The Eagle defense was disciplined, but got pushed around up front. The Lion defense is coming together well, as JC isn't a bad offensive team but managed only seven points early in the first quarter. If Scotts Hill plays to their ability, limits mistakes, and the offensive line keeps controlling the opposition, they have a shot at almost anyone in 2A. -
Sorta sounds like "my" public school now. You may not understand secluded...around 500 students with no stoplight, fast food, merchandise, clothing store...nothing. Kids want to come here for the school, not athletics. 100% graduation rate, 94% college acceptance rate...yet around 70% free and reduced lunch rate (poor families). Christian curriculum isn't allowed by our benevolent government, but you can't take the Christian heart out of Christian people, and the teachers do have influence and were proud of it. We regularly turn away parents with checkbooks out asking "how much is tuition?" because they are out of county. Fundraising is tough because there are 11 (yes eleven) business's in the two combined communities around the school, yet they have constantly improved the facilities. After all that...we have to play with (and educate) the kids that get off the bus, and shouldn't have to compete against a school within a city of 76,000 people...of whom any of their children can attend IF the administration deems them to be an asset, not a liability, and where they can limit their enrollment in order to "choose" their classification. I'm not running down FCS at all, it appears to be a great option for educating and molding children into solid citizens...just stating (and explaining) what I feel are differences between public and private schools, and if there are to be two divisions, why all privates should be placed apart from the public schools.

Jackson Christian comes to Scott's Hill
tradertwo replied to shlionsbaseball5's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
We're not "rolling"...but have been getting the job done. On one hand it worries me that Lewis Co. came to our house undefeated, we played without much emotion, and put the ball on the ground five times. Should have been focused and fired up! On the other hand, that's the type game that in the past where we get beaten soundly...this time we gutted it out and beat a very good team with our defense, so that let's me know that on a good night we'd be trouble for just about anyone. -
With all those options it's too bad that you only play with one ball!!!

Jackson Christian comes to Scott's Hill
tradertwo replied to shlionsbaseball5's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
Jackson Christian had a tough team last season...most thought they didn't have a chance at Waverly, but it didn't really shock me that they knocked them out. Don't know what they have returning or what they added, but I expect a tough game with some hard hitting. -
Looks like the transfer will have to sit...Lexington big.

Yellowjackets of Greenfield invade the Dawg House of Gleason
tradertwo replied to Racerman22's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
Some things are better left unsaid and unknown...game should be a good one. -
TCA is better than their record, they've played some tough competition and are getting better. Riverside has the talent to give them all that they want. Should be a good one, both teams need the win to carry some momentum into the second half of the schedule.

Long way yes...but pretty easy drive. I'd bet that it'll be a good one.
