  1. Good luck, North. Here's hoping of a rematch next week.
  2. This should be a great matchup then. Unless I'm mistaken, EHS has only given up 100 rushing yards twice this season. Once was to Sullivan North and their wing-t offense (it's hard not to give up some rushing yards to a good wing t school.). The other was Sullivan South when their QB had 3 runs of 20+ yards.
  3. I was perusing through GP's roster on unapproved website and noticed that it has the #42 listed at 6'2" and 240lbs. I knew that GP had a big back, but that is very stout, especially for a sophomore. Does anyone know if that is an accurate height and weight? I know that rosters get polished sometimes to a inch here and a pound or two there so I was just curious.
  4. Anyone who's watched EHS play this year already knows this, but it's nice to get it out there for everyone to see. I can't wait for Friday! Here's wishing safe travels to all GP players, coaches, and fans. We're looking forward to seeing you on Friday.
  5. I'll be honest, I didn't read all the posts in this thread so forgive me if someone has already said this. I don't want to get into name calling. I will say one thing in support of the fake punt. In the first round there are going to be a lot of blowouts when you let so many teams in the playoffs. So, it makes sense to me that a team would use these games to work on trick plays (fake punts, double passes, onsides, whatever) in these games so that they can see how they work against live competition. Plus the film from these first round games won't be swapped if a given team makes it to semi-finals because most teams swap two weeks worth of game film. I know it doesn't make the teams that are being blown out feel any better about it, but I don't see it as a huge slap in the face.
  6. Can any of the GP folks give us an update on GPs status right now. Are they healthy? Any insight or breakdown of the team? It would be nice to know a little more about them since EHS hasn't played them in a couple years.
  7. There's a lot if talk about next week already...I think North is much, much better than WG but crazier things have happened when good teams look down the road and forgot what's right in front of them. Good luck North...I hope it doesn't turn into a trap game for you.
  8. Nice footage...he was just a sophomore then, too! Now he's not even the leading rusher on the team. What's that say about the RB depth?
  9. #40 Luke Blanton from Elizabethton can lay the wood from middle linebacker. The funny thing is that some of his biggest hits might be from the fullback position. I have actually seen opponents get out of his way or back up when he comes at them. I guess once you get trucked once, you get a little timid.
  10. I really don't see GP scoring thy many points. Elizabethton is only giving up about 10 a game. The most they gave up in one game all year was 27 to Science Hill. I feel fairly certain in saying that GP, even with all their players isn't as good as Science Hill. Maybe it will be a close game, but it will be low scoring if it's close.
  11. There's already a thread for this game Harley. Must be on page 2. I agree it'll be a good game, but don't make the mistake of looking past Sullivan North. The winner of Betsy vs GP will have to deal with them first (as long as they take care of West Greene).
  12. From what I've heard GP has a big hard-nosed running back, a decent receiver or two, and a decent qb. I'm not sure about their defense. Should be a good game. GP always plays tough football...Betsy better be ready for a fight this week.
  13. Betsy came out on fire last time and put up 300+ rushing yards in the first half. I see a similar result in this with Johnson County still reeling from the loss to Happy Valley. Cyclones - 49 Longhorns - 6
  14. I think Gap takes it in a nail-biter. Their ability to throw gets them a late TD.
  15. Round 1 Elizabethton GP C. Gap Sullivan North Alcoa Tyner CAK Polk Cheatham Fairview Westmoreland CPA South Gibson Lewis Co. Milan Camden Round 2 Elizabethton Sullivan North Alcoa CAK Fairview CPA South Gibson Milan Round 3 Elizabethton Alcoa CPA Milan Semis Alcoa CPA Championship Alcoa - 31 CPA - 21
  16. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think North had 4-5 turnovers in that first game against Johnson County. As long as they play clean, I don't see them losing a first round game. I'm not sure how they stack up with team like GP with the injuries and #42 being out. I guess we'll see if the time comes. For now, I say everyone from Quad 1 becomes huge Johnson County, Pigeon Forge, and Austin-East fans tonight. At least one of those three needs to get in to keep The Team Which Shall Not Be Named in Quad 2.
  17. Gerry... Do you see any possible way that a 5-5 team won't make it in this year?
  18. I think Coach Witten said it best in his post-game interview...that first half was pretty darn impressive by EHS (26 carries for around 350). I'm not sure that Johnson County had a first down in the first half either. With the good news that Moore should be back come playoff time, the Cyclone faithful have a lot to be excited about.
  19. I don't have a dog in this fight, and I haven't seen either team play this year. That being said, I'm pulling for West Greene for the sake of all the other teams in East TN come playoff time. If the Buffs can get this win, and barring any major upsets in the next two weeks, it keeps all Knoxville schools ( Do I need to mention names here?) in the second bracket come November.
  20. I'll still never understand the people that say Elizabethton is playing down. The whole purpose of the reclassification 4 years ago was to prevent that. Elizabethton is not even the biggest school in their conference. Can explain that kandi or do you just spout opinions that you believe to be true?
  21. I agree that Elizabethton should win this one going away. That being said, it might be a good measuring stick. Gat.-Pittman played Unicoi last week and won 34-7. From what I understand GP is not too bad this year; they could potentially be a 2nd or 3rd round matchup in the playoffs should EHS get that far.
  22. Christine Hardin has been kicking extra points and short field goals since her sophomore year for Elizabethton. She is one of the best athletes in the school. Over the course of her high school career she has scored 100+ goals in soccer, scored 100+ points as the kicker for the football team, qualified for state in cross country, played tennis, and basketball...all while maintaining her status as a straight "A" student. The link to the "Faces in the Crowd" article is below. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/scorecard/faces/2012/09/24/index.html
  23. I love the optimism Prider, but I'm not so sure I wouldn't reign in the blowout pick a little. South always has a good team and always comes with a lot of fight. They did score a bunch of points on a very good TN High defense. Also, South's strength on offense matches up with Betsy's weakness on defense: the pass game. If EHS would have shut down Science Hill's pass game, they win...but that didn't happen. Now I'm not saying that South has the athletes at receiver or quarterback that the Hill did, but they did throw for 400+ on Friday night. I think this one will be a dog fight all night long with EHS trying to control the ball and the clock with the dominate running game and South looking for the big play threat through the air. I can't wait for Friday!
