  1. Kingston wins by the above score.
  2. Kingston 14 SHS 10. 1:31 to play. Scott to receive KHS kick.
  3. Does the national federation allow more than one association per state?
  4. The Sunburnt game will be common for the Indians of North Stumptown and the Landlubbers of Huntsville. Any chance to look at the results and decide to schedule each other?
  5. It seems like it took Vic King retiring for Scott to finally beat Kingston. If Benny Hammonds is still at GP, I wouldn't count on a win for Oneida. If he's no longer coaching, well....maybe.
  6. How long is the win streak of GP over OHS?
  7. Just curious. Is King's Acad. the same campus as Harrison-Chilhowee Baptist Acad.?
  8. Crow, you are just about spot on correct about this. I was on staff at SHS at this time. The grown-ups blame the kids for fighting, as the reason for not playing. I have my doubts this is the REAL reason.
  9. Badly, for the Highlanders, I'm afraid .
  10. If we're going to make a decision, perhaps some criteria would be in order. How about: 1. Is the field dedicated to football only? 2. Is there a dedicated side of the field for the visitors? Easily reached? 3. Is one forced to pay to park? 4. Are there restrooms on the visitor's side? 5. Is the walk from the parking area to the stadium a reasonable distance, not a marathon? 6. Are the fans in the back row close enough to hear pads pop? Come on guys, help me out here. What should be some other things to consider?
  11. Doubtful the coaches here will go along. Fifty years ago the state I lived in had a simple transfer rule. If you changed school, for any reason, you were ineligible for twelve months. Is this stringent policy what is needed?
  12. Then coaches from the Knox area should get together, choose a person to run against Mr. Reynolds, and vote him out when his term expires.
  13. I know this kind of thing happened in the coal fields of eastern Kentucky - mining job, company house, etc., but how prevalent do you think it is today?
  14. Perhaps there should be two classes. If a school restricts its attendance to only those children who live within its boundaries, it should be in the closed zone division. If the school has no boundaries, or has boundaries but allows out-of-zone students to attend, it should be in the open zone division.
  15. Correct me if I am wrong on this. Is the national federation willing to recognize multiple associations in one state?
  16. Made a mistake in my math. Kentucky has 64 districts that feed 16 regionals.
  17. Not sure where you got your info. Kentucky has 48 districts in B/G basketball. Each district tournament game is an elimination game except for the championship game. Both the winner and loser of the district advance to the Region tournament. There are 16 Region tournaments. In the first round of the tournament, district winners are paired against the losing team from another district. All games in this tournament are elimination games. Only the regional champion advances to the state tournament. The state tournament is a 16 team affair held at Rupp Arena. The teams are paired by a blind draw. This part of the tourney is, of course, single elimination. In addition, this is a non-classified tournament. All schools, no matter what size, participate.
  18. I'm sorry. I have tried for a day to figure out what this means. Are you saying that if you can't beat the best team, you should not even be allowed in the tournament?
  19. Incorrect. GP defeated Scott High 95-66 on Monday evening at Gat-Pit High.
  20. Coach B, you can't see because of the hair, but I believe Ole Roy has his tongue firmly planted in cheek.
  21. As a former HS coach, I certainly understand putting forth one's best effort. That being said, I feel for the two teams involved. Some blame needs to be placed on TSSAA for the set-up of this tournament. Perhaps this can lead to a modification of the basketball tourney. Let's say you as coach and your team have played 30 games this year. You have lost 3 - all to the same team by 15 points or more. This team happens to be in your district. If you play hard, you will probably go home in the region semi's. Or you can flop and possibly (depending on the elite 8 draw) end up as state runner-up. What if the coach gave this choice to his players. What do you think they would choose? Is this related to the charge call in basketball? I mean that the defender is not making a sincere defensive effort. He is merely trying to get a lay-up nullified. Is that un-sportsman-like?
  22. I don't want to read 23 pages of this topic, so if what I am about to say is repetitive, please forgive me. As I understand it, the loser of this game would have been in the opposite bracket from Blackmon High. I like the NCAA model. Or the Kentucky or Indiana high school model. The loser goes home. I think Kentucky has the best tournament. All schools, no matter what size are in at the beginning. Districts established according to geography. The two semi-finalists advance to the next round. That game is played for seeding. The next round (region) is single elimination. The state (16 teams - blind draw) is single elimination.
