  1. fromthetop - Ravenwood is a veteran team that wont fall for the emotional lapses. They have great senior leadership that will make sure that they have their feet on the ground & ready for a good Smyrna team. Coach Rector scheduled all of these tough non-region foes for a reason & that is to get them as prepared for the playoffs as best as possible. I dont think Ravenwood is dwelling on the previous 4 games. What is scary about this team is the fact that they have yet to put together a complete game on either side of the ball. I liked the fact that they protected the ball better against Brentwood. Now if they can capitilize in the red zone more. I like the fact that this team has not peaked yet. Ravenwood's defense has really stepped up big without Becker in the middle. Everyone is playing their positions & not trying to be heros. When Becker comes back it will just make them that much better. Looking forward to a great game against Smyrna.
  2. Sorry, I guess I should have read the topic closer. I guess I overlooked East TN punters.
  3. TC Jennings from Ravenwood gets alot of hype of being a great QB. He is a very good punter with a 42 yard average & in my opinion he could go D1 as a punter. He is a dual threat being the punter because he could throw or punt it. Defenses has to honor is ability to throw. It looks like Vandy could use a good punter. Vandy's punter is aweful.
  4. Ravenwood controlled the whole game until about 1:50 mark to go in the game & then Brentwood throws a deep high ball into the endzone & the Brentwood receiver pushes off BIG TIME on the Ravenwood defender & catches the ball for the TD & no flag was throw. That was the worst no call I have ever seen. There is no way that this game should have even came down to a nail biter. I give credit to Brentwood for never giving up. That ref has got to be reprimanded for that. Great game by both teams. Anybody agree that that no call was horrible?
  5. Ravenwood has been its own worst enemy. If & that is a BIG If, Ravenwood can play turnover free football they will have their way with Brentwood. Ravenwood has more offensive weapons than people think. The run game is better than the passing game at this point. If the run game & passing game are clicking in the same game defenses will have major troubles.
  6. I agree that the turnover bug has to stop & stop quickly. They did better against a descent Page team. The Raptors have yet to put together a complete game & if/when they do they will put up huge numbers. The defense is doing a pretty good job of bend but dont break. They will focus on not letting McCurdy beat them. This would be a good week for the Raptors to put together that complete game. Now these next few comments are just my opinion so please just take it at that. Ravenwoods ground game is better than the air attack at this early point of the year. The coaches are going to have to realize that when Willams & Laidlaw are racking up huge chunks of yardage to stick with it more. They will pick up big yardage & then go back to the air when Jennings has not been on target like he would like to be. Jennings has struggled a bit with his accuracy. People say that Jennings has to put this team on his back, that is not necessarily true. Dylan Willams & that offensive line he runs behind could carry some of the load if the coaches would let them. I think Ravenwood would be able to line up & play smash mouth with the Bruins & win the battle of the trenches. I am not saying that Ravenwood needs to abandon the passing game at all but they need to realize that Jennings is stuggling a bit & that there is another part of offense than passing. I am looking for a Ravenwood victory if there is less than 2 turnovers. Any Raptor fans agree?
  7. David Lipscomb's Purple Shoe Gang has to be the best field stripers in the state. Phil Pharr & company always has the Mustangs field looking GREAT. With Bayron Binkley & Bo Wilkerson at the helm of the purple paint cans who else can top those guys. They have many years experience painting the Mustang in the middle of the field. Mr. Ernie Lehning is the captain of the straight eye on the hash marks. Dr. Ming Wang would be proud of how good his eyesight is. After all of the sweat & tears they always look forward to a good ole Nutty Buddy to top the afternoon off. Keep up the good work Purple Shoe Gang. I miss you guys. You never know when ole twitty will show up with his own can of purple paint. Good luck tonight.
  8. That is interesting bulldog. You have some valid points. Becker is out for this game. Becker went out against Franklin at the end of the 1st quarter & Ravenwood did a pretty good job without him for the rest of the game. Ravenwood cant afford to let up on the intensity that they have had the last two games. This is a veteran group that wont let that happen. Ravenwood has been good against the run & will definately focus on McMurray (sp). Ravenwoods defense will make someone else beat them. I look for a Ravenwood victory on their home opener. 9. Good point. Ravenwood was definately emotionally up for BA. Maybe the reason for all of the mistakes. I dont think either team will have a problem getting up.
  10. Ravenwood went totally away from the pass in the second half against BA to the ground & was very successful. BA DOMINATED the first half in time of possession. That is why Jennings only had 6 passes. Fumbles & penalties absolutely killed Ravenwood. In my opinion if Ravenwood plays with the passion they had against BA & cuts way down on turnovers & penalties they will be very dangerous. They have the offensive horses to put up big numbers & look for them to turn things around this week. Defensively I was inmpressed with their run defense. BA has 2-3 great backs & Ravenwood did a nice job of not letting those guys run wild. I'll be interested to see if Ravenwood has the discipline to cut down on the turnovers & penalties against a very good Franklin team.
  11. Ravenwood does not have time to hang their heads this week & feel sorry for themselves because of the BA loss. Ravenwood knows what lies ahead. They know what they have to work on this week & that is holding on to the ball & the untimely penalties. Those two things killed them against BA. If they can achieve those two things they should be fine. The intensity & the physical play is there. The little things is what wins the big games. I agree with BDD on the fact that Franklin should focus on the passing game more than the running game. Ravenwood did a pretty good job against a very talented running game against BA. I am not real familiar with Franklins ground attack but I dont think they have what BA has. BA didnt throw a whole lot but was efective when they did throw. Who knows whats going to happen if this Katrina hangs around & causes the field to be sloppy. Looking forward to a great game.
  12. With John Garrett at QB, how is his passing abilities? We all know that the run game is pretty solid but if you cant throw then it will be hard to win the "BIG" games. I am curious to know if he is able to air it out.
  13. To the Lipscomb/Greenbrier fans: I was at the Ravenwood/Father Ryan scrimmage game last Friday night & there was this referee that was pretty young & he never threw a flag & seemed a bit nervous. I hope you guys dont get this guy to ref your game. He would probably be a bit biased also. He needs to be polished a bit. Maybe this refs father could help him since his father seems to help the refs at his games on Friday nights.
  14. Since you have called me out I must at least make a brief post. While your talking about random ruminations lets find out where mustvol, mudflap & purplegang is as well. I guess I have been kinda in a different mind set as many of you know. I am alive and well. I also have been on other threads trying to figure out new teams & players & who are the teams to beat & so forth. I kinda feel like a rookie in those threads. Thats life I guess. I still am very interested in this upcoming season for the Mustangs. Once a Mustang ALWAYS a Mustang. I also read on here about that Chuck Pack guy who SUPPOSEDLY took pictures. I heard there was film in his camera but he just looked thru the lens to get close up looks for his personal use. What a way to get on the sidelines. I had a talk with Chuck about that & he said that he would not do that anymore. vandy1 thanks for your concerns on my whereabouts.
  15. Zach Cordell is his name. You can tell a difference in the confidence between Cordell & Howe. Cordell is still learning & is not as comfortable with the offense yet as Howe is. Cordell will be the better QB when he gets more confidence & reps. Howe has a year on Cordell & you can kinda tell it.
  16. I think Vandy will be a great fit for Gaston. With his size the NFL is not likely. A Vanderbilt education is second to none. Good luck to him.
  17. Congratulations to Jason Brock from David Lipscomb on being selected by the Pirates. Jason has a choice to make on either going to TN Tech or going to the Pirates. Personally I think he needs to go to Tech to develop his skills more & then in a few years at Tech he could really help his draft status. He is 6'6 lefty & throws hard he just needs to develop more. I think Jason has a fine future either way he goes. Great kid that wants to get better. I wish him all the best.
  18. TC Jennings at Ravenwood has to be at the top of the list.
