  1. Glad the topic was brought up, I have been wanting to ask this one for a while. Please define what determines whether a Baylor wrestler is "viable" or "not viable"? Also who at Baylor makes the "viability" decision and based on what criteria? Is this decision made your 8th grade or freshman year? Is it permanent or can you go from "non-viable" to "viable" Its been a tough policy for outsiders to follow in the past. In TJ Hooker's situation, Baylor had a "viable" 9th or 10th grader to wrestle in a spot. However, the next year when Zach Watson came up, there was a 9th grader wrestler at that weight, but that poor guy was deemed "not viable"? "Sorry son, your just not a viable wrestler, so we're bringing up the middle school guy to replace you." Seems kind of like a stigma that would be hard to overcome. This stuff is kind of fun to watch from a comfortable distance.
  2. I agree on Ravenwood and Chatt Central, top 12 teams again. Walker Valley also improving. West side will have to show before I can rate one ahead of Bradley Central, Houston prediction is 10 for next year.
  3. Coach Badon and Coach Jordan always have tough teams. I may have underestimated Clarksville a bit because they should have Hayden Jordan for another year and he did not wrestle at State due to an injury. Dickson did not appear to have any returning state placers for next year and only one wrestler that made it within 2 rounds of placing at State.
  4. D1 Top 12 for 2011-2012 based on returning placers and those wrestlers that finished close to the medal rounds... 1. Soddy Daisy 2. Cleveland 3. Bradley Central 4. Ravenwood 5. Independence 6. Franklin 7. Science Hill 8. Pigeon Forge 9. Tullahoma 10. Houston 11. Chattanooga Central 12. Gibbs
  5. I am assuming this is a first, but someone may be able to set me straight. Has there ever been a team not invited to the state duals that won the individuals State Championship? Unbelievable! Congratulations to Cleveland High School. Message to the TSSAA--do you think the regions are just a little unbalanced?
  6. No, almost every wrestler will care about the ice cream. Great job!!!!!
  7. The point is that we all get to see the finals! There should be plenty of seating. The one end is still significantly larger than the Clarksville High School gym which was excrutiatingly painful. Thanks for bringing back those memories. As for Chattanooga, UTC would be happy to host the event on Wednesday morning if there's not a women's ice hockey game that day. While the best venue was no doubt UTC, the school showed complete disregard for the wrestlers (who had to miss an entire week of school--exception of Monday, eat overpriced junk food), the parents, relatives and fans (that could not take off all week). This just isn't an option. We either need to find another location or do everything possible to spruce up the event at the new location and make this as special for the young people competing as possible.
  8. Fair enough...though it still seems like a valid issue was being raised. Not a big deal, just my perception.
  9. A couple of thoughts here to wrestle90. You have admitted that you were wrong and that is appreciated. The great rivalry between the blue and the red just pulls out those worst emotions. No problem. you stepped up to it..enough said. A second thought, as much as you may not like it, the original attack at the top on Tim Manley, who is apparently not "ynotme" and on "ynotme" were also uncalled for as it appears they were raising a legitimate issue (your conduct after the 171 match). Your reaction makes it appear that you were hoping that the subject would not be raised because you were in the wrong, and thus you attacked the messenger.
  10. No problems with anyone having their own opinion, but its how you state it. Calling someone out, using the language used by IowaState was wrong. Hopefully, this board will quickly get rid of him and the post. That said, these guys don't wrestle for you or me. Most are trying to earn state championships and almost any wrestler or fan will tell you how elusive these are to obtain. Especially as a senior, you get them where you can. Again, my bet is the post was made by one of the impacted 130 lbers or a friend that is upset that there would be more competition at 130. Now they will be resigned to be a second or third place and not wanting the "competition" they are accusing Manley. Hey, if you don't like it, come and beat Manley at 130! Again, congrats to Manley on an awesome career and good luck at State at any weight you want!!!!
  11. '' Never welched...don't owe him anything. Go back and look at the thread. It was purely a gentleman's bet with nothing else.
  12. Its equally fun for the school you left when one of their studs pummels you....
  13. Soddy, Bradley and Cleveland could finish 1,2 and 3 in state much less their region. Ooltewah is really getting short changed as well. By my count, the TSSAA has made about four good decisions related to wrestling in about 30 years. Pretty impressive track record.
  14. Back to the match--is everyone healthy for Bradley and Cleveland? Hope so, don't want to get all excited, get to my seat and then be disappointed.
  15. Looks like a tough tourney. Who are the favorites? I don't know much about the NC teams, but believe Baylor will be at the top of the TN teams in the mix.
  16. Why aren't Kyler Smith and Dakota Ream rated ahead of Slater Peck? They both pinned him quickly earlier in the season. Did they wrestle again? I think Garrett Sealor at 112 lb deserves some consideration as well as Andrew Armstrong from Sullivan South. Armstrong pinned Aguilar at the Indian Classic earlier this year.
  17. Were the full results or brackets from this tournament posted anywhere?
  18. I should have taken double or nothing on this prediction...oh, great swami bcb iii
  19. I like your analysis...one change. I think Turbo turns his loss around and decisions Cate. Baylor still wins 36-30.
  20. Maybe I am missing something, but I thought the FR line by wrestling god was funny and not meant in any bad way. Then facenthecrowd went crazy. Get off wrestling god's back. As for bringing up elementary and middle school wrestlers in the same conversation as the greatest TN high school wrestlers, that's too premature and puts pressure on youth wrestlers. I have seen young wrestlers win Liberty, Tulsa Nationals and others, then struggle to place in their state or worse yet, lose the passion and not even wrestle in high school. My advice, take it a step at a time, celebrate the success of the moment, but don't equate it to high school success which is years away.
  21. Jordan Leen won the NHSCA senior nationals and that made him an elite high school wrestler. Zach has not won or placed at that level tournament yet. Several years ago, I thought Zach would be one of the best wrestlers to come out of Tennessee. There is still time to join the ranks of Leen, Croy, Marable, Simpson, Keller, Mang, Kennedy, Thomas and others that have placed at the top national tournaments. Hopefully, he will break through. The win over the CH wrestler was a big win and congrats to Zach!
  22. Not all states intepret the system similarly.
  23. bcb iii, head on back to the egg nog, only intelligent and sober forum discussion wanted here.
  24. Not sure...Watson, like everyone else seems to have good and not so good tournaments. The win at CH was big...that should get added to the resume. Super 32 3-2...good, but not elite results.
  25. Lol....could not have said it better. Appears that Baylor wrestled well, especially their returning state champions. However, I doubt they'll be too satisfied with this moral victory against a Collins Hill lineup missing a couple of key wrestlers.
