I recently received an email from another coach stating he was stranded in the Phillipines. He was asking for a pretty good sum of money($2500.00) to help him get his hotel bills paid and return plane fare paid. I have spoken to this coach in the past, and he seems straight up. My concern is this, if it is a scam, say by someone hacking his email, I dont want to act. On the other hand, if it is genuine and he is stuck he needs help. Has anyone else received this email. I dont care to put his name out there in case it is some sort of scam. Hope all parties understand this.

Deadlift I attended last seasons meeting. We chose the small school the same day. We were asked to keep the names of the team members quiet until after the banquet for Dream Team. If they are releasing the Dream Team names the banquet must have taken place. Or has it?

Anybody know who made the small school all midstate team?

AAU Region 5 Coaches. We are currently having trouble filling some of our upper weights for the Elementary State Duals. We are missing the following; 116,125,135, and 190. Please allow me to add a different look at this subject. Growing up in Michigan we were exposed to a 4 class system. Michigan was a 2 class system as far back as the state keeps records, (1961). In 1967 they created a 3rd class. In 1974 they split again and created a 4 class system, A,B,C, and D. Now it is called Division 1,2,3, and 4. Michigan had to start somewhere just as Tennessee has. In some ways Tennessee is seeing the same type of growth as Michigan, maybe a little slower, yet growth just the same. What are we seeking for Tennessee? Do we want to eventually be called a "PowerHouse" or maybe a "Traditional Hot Bed?" We have to start somewhere. When I graduated in 1982 we had very little to do post-season. USA Kids had a few tournaments here and there, but we had to travel far to get to them. AAU started coming on and eventually MYWA was started. Now they have 5 different sanctioning entities. They didnt start at 6 dividions and reduce to 4. Here is another perspective. School A has 1500 students, while school B has 400. Who has a greater pool to pull from? More programs start up every year. The sport keeps growing. Look for yourself. Now another look at Michigan. Every school has the option to schedule who they want beyond the teams they need to seed against at Team State. Kids from every division go on to college and wrestle. Go to michigangrappler.com or the MHSAA and look up the names. You will see this to be true. My brother won 6 team titles (Division 3) 2000-2012 coaching against the toughest D1 and D2 schools he could schedule. Youth programs are popping up everywhere there as well as here. Give the sport some room to grow. If the plan fails you can say "I told you so." If it succedes we can all join in that growth together. Michigan has grown every year because it is not being held back. Think of it this way, If you have 14 State Champs every year, how many will go to college? How many kids will miss out because they just missed placing in the big one but could have placed in the next biggest? Isnt the idea to grow the sport at all levels? Give the colleges more kids to look at, not every BIG school kid is going to fill every college spot available, some of those spots will be filled by smaller school kids. Not every state champ wants to attend a NAIA school either. Someone needs to fill those spots. From 1976-2005 I have seen many good things happen in Michigan and I see the same tendencies happening here in Tennessee. Just my thought. Thank you for your time. Hamblin

BearsWrestling, I am curious to know who you are. The reason I ask is, you take a pot shot at a boy I have coached since he was a 6th grader and I take offense to it. I watched as boys all over Tennessee beat Mikes butt time and again while he was learning. We spent countless hours working on his game. Mike has put in more time these past 4 years improving his game than kids do in 8 years. Mike has managed to avenge losses to every kid who has ever beaten him with the exception of 3. I believe Mike has wrestled well over 300 matches since he was a 6th grader. This would include Nationally. I busted my tail teaching this kid this sport and in just a few minutes you try and tear him down. Now Im gonna ask you. 1. What did you accomplish in wrestling? 2. Where did you accomplish it? 3. Why would you hide behind a screen name unless you are some sort of coward? Mike should have little trouble winning the region title at 145 or 152 depending where he ends up. Now, I expect some sort of trash talk to come from the mouth your momma should have mashed years ago. Despite any short comings Mike may have, he deserves better than the drivel you have to offer. Grow up!!!!!!!

Bigddaddy67, now that I know who you are I want to tell you something. I sent a message to a man on the coaching staff. I told him to tell those boys to go out there and win a state championship. Thanks for the kind words fellas. I believe I will sit this season out. I will run my youth program another year then decide what to do after that. The way this all went down has really soured me towards public school administration and the politics they play. Have a great season everyone and we will see you around. Hamblin

We fought the good fight and lost. The Administration has given my program to the guy it was taken away from a few years back. His name is Wes Proctor. According to the small group of kids present in the meeting the new coach informed them that this is no longer team Hamblin, and this is no longer team Seifert. Seifert was my faculty assistant. He told these kids that they need to forget everything I taught them and they needed to learn a new way of wrestling. What a way to start the season for these kids. I was informed that his assistants would be Bubba Chandler, Jason Pennington, and Jesi Seifert. Again, Seifert was my assistant. I do not know what they will do with my schedule. I do not know what they will do with our home tournaments. I dont know anything else about this except I am signing off and will no longer be involved with wrestling at Sycamore High or Middle. If I made you mad through the cousre of these past 3 years as a high school coach, or while coaching my youth kids the past 5 years, understand that I am very passionate about this sport and I never intended to insult or demean you. Please understand that this is information only. I am trying to keep my schedule intact and I am trying to keep from losing both tournaments that I have made for this school. We are still fighting. Dont bail on Sycamore. I spoke with the Director of Schools for an hour. Although he gave me no indication of his decision he said we would have one by the end of this week. I feel confident he will do the right thing. I cannot speak for those looking to replace me and have no idea what their plan is. I will let you know something when I know it. Thanks guys. Hamblin

Coaches, Please dont abandon your scheduling with Sycamore. Please dont abandon their two tournaments if you were invited to them. Regardless of the outcome of this Mondays meeting (9-17-12) between the parents/community and the School Board Director, these kids are entitled to a season. These kids are entitled to continue in the building process. I did the best job I could to schedule the toughest schedule possible. This is a team bent but not broken. I told these kids that we havent been training the past 3 years just to quit in the end because we arent happy with decisions that have been made. Some of these kids see wrestling as their way out. Please dont deny them of the opportunity to compete. My schedule was submitted to P.A. Bowler and the AD before I was cut loose. It is my desire to see it fulfilled. Well, they did it. They succeeded. The powers at be have taken my program away from me after all. As a matter of fact the coach mentioned in the statement above will likely be the assistant and the new head coach will likely be the guy who ran this program into the dirt before I got it. Its a sad day in Pleasant View Tn. I hate it for these kids. They have worked so hard to make something of this program and now 2 knuckleheads who have destroyed their own programs are going to destroy mine. Am I bitter? Who wouldnt be after all of the time and effort that has been put into it. My assistant tried to get the position as head coach as she was a faculty member and myself as her assistant. They told her no. Football coach/AD saw to that. My kids and their parents are working hard to reverse this decision but the folks in charge said their decision is final. They said they are heading in a new direction. heck, I thought the direction we were heading in was pretty good. Good luck to all this coming season. I wish you all well and keep your kids healthy.
