Having been in this sport way longer than you, I know that Chattanooga has always been at or near the top of the food chain when it comes to TN wrestling. However, that gap is closing real quick to where folks like yourself won't feel the need to flock to what is perceived to be the Mecca of wrestling. Alcoa has had success in more sports than just football. Basketball, baseball, soccer, wrestling, track, etc. They're competing for TSSAA titles in every sport they play (boys and girls). Like BC said you need to get out from under that rock you reside. Don't believe me? Ask one of the Upperman coaches about Alcoa's sports tradition. For the Alcoa folks in the know, his grandfather/grandmother lived on Remsen street for over half a century. His father was the head coach at Cookeville HS for a long time and brother currently coaches basketball at Maryville.

I promise you that they do. Claiming they get all their kids from Knoxville is wrong too, I would say 90% of their kids play their entire careers for Alcoa from grasshoppers through high school. If there is one school they pick from the most it would be us (Maryville), but we gets just as many from them as they do from us.

That may be true, but none of those players are at the level of the ones Maryville was missing.

That's with Maryville missing a few starters on defense. Wouldn't read too much into how much Farragut scored.

My cousin who played for Maryville in the 80's said they played A-E back then. They put us out of the playoffs more than once during the Story era.

Is there going to be anyone outside of Hardin Valley, Grace, and CAK in West Knoxville participating in the youth league this year? Only HVA and GCA attended the coaches meeting a few weeks ago for the Smoky Mountain Conference and AAU Region 1.

We shall see, Kage was with me at Maryville for a few years before they had to move back to NC. Of course he'll still find some practice dates here and other places in TN, but he was a big loss for us and definitely a special talent.
