  1. Contracts are up after this year I believe..with Forrest losing their tractor pull for a year and reclassification moving teams around would be a great time to make up some financial money and schedule this game..the gate money alone would be worth it .
  2. Just out of curiosity why doesn’t Forrest play Cornersville? Would seem to me that adding a school that has been in the state finals on your schedule would be something you would wanna do.
  3. Before the Memphis situation there were 335 schools who play basketball. There are 295 in football with 6 classes. You take away the Memphis teams you have 293 in 4 classes. If you can do 295 in 6 football classifications should not be a problem for 4 with 293.
  4. I would say it stays at 4. Basketball would then be at the same number of participants as football has and they have 6.
  5. Looks like we may be saying goodbye to the Memphis schools in all sports.
  6. I think it could be a very competitive game. Just thankful to have football back. Hope both teams stay safe and have fun playing the game. My grandson said he though Community was going to be doing their senior night before the game in case the season ends like baseball and spring sports did last season which is probably a good idea. Wouldn't be surprised if Community moves up to 3A next season based on those cut off numbers for 2A. Good luck to all!
  7. I think those numbers are pretty accurate. May be a little wiggle room up and down but not much. Districts would be 5 or 6 teams max I would say. I am glad the TSSAA finally addressed this. It's not perfect for everyone but it is better than what we had with 3 classes for sure. I just hope that they align the districts and regions to where you have a more competitive balance. With only 5 in a district for example you could put Blackman, Riverdale, Siegal, Oakland and Stewarts Creek all in one with their region being Smyrna, LaVergne, Lebanon, Wilson Central, and one other close by. This would help schools who are playing 4A that are smaller help compete. I have been to a couple region games and schools like Columbia, Shelbyville, Franklin County have a hard time advancing being grouped with Murfreesboro teams. You could pair them up maybe for sub state games.
  8. I think most years Forrest would win. Would love to see that rivalry start up. I think it would be good for the county. Losing to Community is tough they are a basketball school for sure I would say. I think they won one game the last couple seasons which is tough. Good luck to both schools this season.
  9. Which in hoops that’s over the 2A cutoff but they are still in a 2a district with 2 other schools barely over 500 students which is a 700 student difference. Classification needs some changes especially in hoops..the size differences are huge in a lot of districts.
  10. Nolensville also plays in a basketball district that has schools with enrollments of just over 500..you think football is flawed look at basketball and baseball. Something hopefully will be done.
  11. This would be a nightmare for some schools. Imagine early college enrollees choosing to leave at Christmas for college spring practice rather than playing their high school season or a kid sitting out their spring football season as to not get injured for enrolling in college in the summer for summer workouts. What college coach would want their signees playing 12 games in the spring..makes no sense.
  12. If football goes to spring then we have a mess..baseball will play until late October then football coaches will want their kids to be lifting and practicing instead of hoops. Would not be good. Best case is to shorten football to 8 games, skip by week and take top 2 in each region for playoffs. Do the same in hoops. Take schedule down to 18 games including district games. District tourney take top 2 not top 4 and be done in February. But who knows the powers that are in control will panic at the first sign of a flu symptom. Crazy how more kids pass away in car crashes every year but we don’t keep them from driving at 16. I am like you I just wanna see high school sports. It’s good for the kids. Fans should be there just have every fan sign a waiver list when they purchase their ticket and check em at the door
  13. I have a nephew who is an assistant soccer coach in East Tennessee. He said they and their other spring sports were told to begin cancelling the rest of their season games by the county. I’m sure this is a sign of more to come. I hate it my granddaughter was going to be playing this year was gonna enjoy going to some.
  14. I believe he had been there for 3 years. The former coach is now at Marshall Co doing a great job. What’s kinda head scratching is both former coaches were alum and I believe the one they just let go was Mr. Basketball there but I may be mistaken. I saw them play a couple times against Eagleville and they have some talent. There are some good coaches in the area that would do a good job there if they can find the right fit.
  15. Didn’t East play Nolensville and only win by 9?
  16. I think again it goes back to girls team having a say in the schedule. Blackman girls against community wouldn’t be fair. Community girls had about 8 freshmen that played varsity this time so I am sure it was a give and take on the schedule. I know community played Webb in a play day at shelbyville and lost by 8 with Johnson. They also scrimmaged Siegal in the pre season. Only so much you can do schedule wise. I will disagree on the boat race. Again I think we just saw the game differently.
  17. No doubt was a great coaching move for the Vikings. That’s why they have been to the sectional 3 of the last 8 years they always play well on defense and get the most of the talent they have. I hate it for the East kids not being able to play in state tourney they deserved it.
  18. Wish him well. Gonna be a tough job much different than Lake County.
  19. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. We didn’t see the same game. When you hold a team to 20 points in a half that is suppose to be one of the best in the state that’s pretty impressive. The other thing about schedule is that girls coaches have a say as well. And the facts are finances do play a role in rural schools when the make the schedule especially a town like unionville. Just the facts. The lead got that way because community was fouling at the end. Had community won it would have been east coaches fault and not what community did? East has a very good team no doubt. I will still disagree schedule had nothing to do with the outcome of that game.
  20. Community played the same teams they always play. I am pretty sure it’s for financial reasons because all their non district games are their old district where their student enrollments are closer together than in their own district. The ones they usually don’t play were AAA teams. They beat Warren County and Tullahoma both of which won their districts. They swept Eagleville who had a mr basketball winner and was a sectional team. I believe these schedules are done in spring so hard to tell sometimes who will be good. A friend of mine who would know said they went to camp in Maryville and the BCAT camp in Memphis and played some good competition. Weak schedule had nothing to do with them losing the sectional game. They were up 29-20 at half against East and led most of the third quarter. East went on a run and got the lead and then Community in the 4th started fouling and east made free throws. This was not a blow out by and stretch. Community held their own in this game. I just don’t think it’s fair for everyone to be downing their schedule when in years past no one said anything about any of the other teams in the district schedule. Nolensville played a lot of Nashville and larger schools probably because of travel and they are closer in size and they lost round one of the region at home to Creekwood. Did the tough schedule cause them to lose? Creekwood just probably made more shots that night. I saw Nolensville against Forest and they were a solid team. Community wasn’t only beating teams they did it pretty handily because they defended well and made shots the games I saw. All credit to East they made the plays late to win but Community was right there til the end.
  21. Unfortunately the success for football has been the detriment of their basketball and baseball programs. Shelbyville when it was 3 classifications for years in the 70, 80 and especially the early 90 made the playoffs and advanced in some years. Most of those football athletes also played baseball and basketball I am sure. What hurts them is having 2 other schools in their county and I heard one of their feeder schools cancelled their football program after just a few years. That’s gotta be tough. And I hear the pay through the school system for coaches isn’t near what Rutherford and some others pay that are in their region. Add that all up and it currently makes it a challenge for any coach. You just hope for success when you have a run of seniors like they had this year.
  22. Will be very hard to wait that long to play the games especially if spring fling is pushed back a couple weeks behind it. That means softball and baseball will be in district tourney play. That’s asking apt of dual sport athletes. Good chance some schools come back and some do not. Best to credit those left and move on.
  23. They do but they played 8 to 9 deep so their starting 5 next year should be very competitive. I know nothing about their feeder programs or where they get kids from. With a school that size I would say maybe 1 possibly 2 feeders. It's a good place for boys hoops for sure.
  24. I do hate it for all teams. Since this is very rare then maybe do something rare. Make all remaining teams co champions. If they are afraid to play it at least give the young men something for all their efforts. Stinks but we have 9 champions in football then why not..I am sure the TSSAA has the money for trophies for the schools. Not a perfect idea by any means at all but better than nothing.
  25. I was lucky to get a ticket to the game Monday and I have to say in all my years of going to games and coaching a long time ago that was the most fun atmosphere I have been in in a high school game. I am sure people are down playing Community just because they don't know enough about them because they have only been in 2A for 3 years. They are one of the smallest AA schools in the state and probably will go back down to A where they belong. I read where people are bashing their schedule. They played the same teams they have always played probably because of money. Most rural schools play teams that will bring fans and won't have to travel very far. They beat Warren County, Tullahoma, Shelbyville twice who they haven't played many years. All of which are twice or 3 times their size. They beat Eagleville twice who had a Mr. Basketball candidate and made the sectionals. Teams can't control how their district is so those 10 games were set. Not only were they beating these teams they were beating them soundly. I coached at some bigger schools in the 80's so I too had the bias against small schools but as a fan I have a lot of respect watching the smaller schools compete against schools larger than them. I always enjoy watching Community play because they play hard and are very well coached. They have been to the sectional round 3 times in the last few years and are close to breaking through. The fans should be proud of what they have achieved. East is no doubt a great team and I enjoyed the atmosphere and competition between the 2 schools. Let's give East credit for a great comeback and Community for competing at the highest level. It's what makes high school sports fun! Good luck to East and if they do make a run for the championship it should confirm to everyone that Community this season deserved to be among the conversation of the best teams in AA.
