  1. This. My opinion is Cookeville will be able to compete on a broader scale (more competitive across multiple sports, not just basketball) if/when they split the high school into 2 smaller schools. It should be Cookeville North and Cookeville South, imo.
  2. I attended this game. Right before half, I make the comment that York needs to run the clock down some when they had it 1st and goal at the 2 with ~1:20 or somewhere around there. Because when York scored, it made it 7-14 and would have gotten the ball after half. Instead York scores immediately leaving 1:16 (I believe) and then gets a 15 yard penalty. Which set up ER to get within striking range just before half. And ER did. They scored making it 21-7 at half. The way this game played out, I believe that was the difference.
  3. I was under the impression you never heard of them. I was just giving you some background info on why I believe they have cycled through and are good again now. Because of their legacy players.
  4. Not that I'm taking up for this poster, but East Robertson won three straight State Championships in 1987, 1988, and 1989. They were led by Carlos Groves (who went on to play at Tennessee). Then I believe they made an appearance in State in 1992, with the help of a guy name David Woodard (who was really good, ask Monterey when they played them in substate). But, until the past few seasons, they were not making much noise. I guess the Groves currently on ER team are legacy players of Carlos Groves (or some relation; I don't really know the relationship) helped them get back to a good team.
  5. I was reading something that mentioned Cadon Buckles and I thought it read Cadon Buckets....ha. I was very impressed with how smooth he got to the rim. Also, impressed with Hampton's shot selections. One could see they are a very well coached team. I love it when a community gets a gold ball, especially when their fans have shown much class over the years. It doesn't go unnoticed.
  6. Very impressed with Independence. Sound team. If they play like they have been, they have a good shot.
  7. Middleton is good. Guards are excellent. Going to be hard to best them.
  8. If Hampton can contain 30 and 11 from CP, Hampton by 7.
  9. Goodpasture in 2014 was probably the only team that could play close with them. In fact, Goodpasture missed a free throw with 1 second left in regulation that would have won it, but MM went on to win in OT. But yeah, they were good and won 3 straight State Championships.
  10. PC was "a ball rolling around the rim" shot away from winning back-to-back State Championships. The 95-96 State Championship game was one I won't forget. A player from Boyd Buchanan intercepted a PC throw just beyond half-court and started to celebrate by holding the ball and running. However, he was called for traveling because there was still time left on the clock. PC had one more chance to win the game and with their 6'10'' player, that was a real possibility. PC threw the ball in around half court and up to the goal. Of course, PC missed but it was almost a remarkable turn of events given the stakes.
  11. Speaking of Woodard, man, I'd love to see some old game film of him. The way he jumped was mesmerizing. At least that is what I recall from seeing him play back in the day.
  12. To this date, and because of this 1997 Upperman team, I do not assume ball playing skills based on the size of the team and how they look in warmups. I watched them drop, I believe around 107 against a Pickett Co. team (who scored in 70s, I believe) that year at Upperman. That team had just the right combination of post/defense/shooters. Great team.
  13. I got a chance to watch PC play last Friday night and they reminded me of two teams. I'm going way back here, but they reminded me of the 1997 Upperman team (that team was rather small and a team that did not look intimidating but they swarmed on defense; PC doesn't have the post game they did though) and the 2013 Goodpasture team (the one that shot lots of threes). If they can figure out how to defend the post, this PC team might be the best team they've had in years.
  14. Great game between Stone and WC. The last play called from WC with 5.1 secs left was good. WC having to call a timeout, I believe, helped them win this game. It gave them time to refocus and make a play. I was impressed with both Stone and WC play calling, especially after timeouts.
  15. I happened to be at this game. Good game. The loose ball timeout was granted due to team control still in possession (in other words, no change of possession occurred and player or coach can call timeout). I thought the refs did a good job.
  16. Agreed. When Watertown was in Clay and Pickett's region they hosted every other year. It was overlooked then because they where not good and not sure they made regions much but later they got good and still hosted. I brought up why is Watertown hosting at a game down there once but that conversation didn't go far...ha.
  17. I'm not sure why people think they can't be beat if they already won earlier. To me this just puts a target on your back to get beat. Anybody can beat anyone on any given night.
  18. Did Clay beat PC 64 - 23? That's what scoreboard reads. Is that correct?
  19. 68-63 Clay. That's my prediction. 47+ FTs this game too.
  20. Buck is a very good coach. He won a State as head coach in A, won a State as an assistant in AAA, taken another boys AA school to the final 4 in State and recently led a girls team to State in AAA. Buck was and still a good coach over 25 years worth consistently winning. He even got out of coaching a few years and then took AAA girls team to State after he started back.
