  1. Nothing personal PowellFan, but I have to disagree with you a little bit. I've got no problem with Ogan letting McGaha back on the team. By not playing him against Central, he made it obvious that Jared is going to have to work his way back up the ladder. Jared is going to have to pay his dues before he gets back on the court, and I think this works out best for everyone. Also, against Halls, that wasn't exactly the most critical moment of the season. A Christmas tournament with no relevance for even the regular season isn't exactly when the Panthers needed him most. If McGaha is willing to work his butt off, understanding he's at the bottom, working his way back up, I've got no problem at all with him being on the team, and I wish him all the best.
  2. You're right, a win is a win, congrats to Halls for winning that game. They certainly earned it. But in the end, it means absolutely nothing, counts as a non-district game, so I personally was more concerned with seeing how the teams matched up, and I think the score shows that the teams are even.
  3. I see......I didn't realize 2 point wins off of buzzer beaters on your home floor proved doiminance......missed the memo. Not saying Powell will beat Halls next time, but all that was proven was that the teams are very even.
  4. mocs going for the rare quintuple post
  5. hhslefty, if you've read many of his posts at all, you would know bigcatt does not go to Oak Ridge, he's a Central fan. Just because he hasn't declared Halls district champs yet doesn't make him bias. Maybe, just maybe, he's sticking to his preseason predictions because not a single team in the district has really proven anything yet. None of the top 4 teams in the district have lost at home yet. Untill that happens, no one has proven anything.
  6. Anyone have a score on this game? Wasn't able to make it tonight.
  7. AE, there have been about 5 people saying anything at all about the Powell team...how you can think an entire community and team is a certain way, good or bad, due to roughly 5, is completely beyond me. And all I've seen in the way of being on "cloud 9" is that most of the Powell people expected more out of AE. Most of Powell's fans thought they'd have an advantage upfront but would have trouble with their athleticism, and Powell didn't. AE just flat-out wasn't that good of a football team, it's that simple. Everyone I know doesn't think Powell has accomplished anything this year. They just know AE isn't very good this year.
  8. I agree with you completely mofo. I think Halls was having an off night, if what I've heard about their scrimmages is correct, but it sure looked like Webb had the better team without question on Friday night. Their offense is tough to stop, they just execute so well.
  9. Yeah, Cody did only spin moves...except for the play right before the 40-yard TD when he bulldozed 1 of AE's DB's about 6 yards backwards.....but nah, he's not that good......AE, that would be great for you guys if A. Mac came back, then you guys might have 1 guy who could tackle Cody, but until he finds that 5th year of eligibility, you're still stuck with the goose egg. Cody showed that there was no question he was the best player in that quarter, and at the very least in the runnings for best player on that field.
  10. BHS, in case you haven't noticed, other than OR, all of the best Knoxville area teams play below 5a. Maryville, Central, Powell, Alcoa, AE, Fulton, Catholic....I don't see any way Bearden beats Fulton.
  11. Sergeant Owl, not to be ripping on your rankings terribly, but the 4A might need tweaking. I'm a Powell guy so I won't try to pretend I can tell you where to accurately rank them statewide, but I do know they beat up on your #11 team pretty bad in a spring scrimmage, so 1 or both of those teams might need adjusting.
  12. Just throwing in my two cents here. I know rules are rules and that Halls can protest and win the game, but this just seems a little cheap. If you guys recall, there was a similar situation in boys basketball this past year where Halls backup point guard played in too many quarters in a certain period of time. The game that he was illegally playing in, he hit about 5 3's to help lead Halls past Powell. Coach Ogan was asked about this and, from what I've heard, simply said "If they can beat us with him playing that many quarters, they deserve to win." Now, obviously, I know it's a different set of coaches and players for Halls baseball than basketball, but it would have been nice to see Halls show the same kind of class that Coach Ogan showed them.
  13. I don't know if Knight will come here or not, but I definitely think he will consider it. I don't think money will be all that big of an issue (Knight gave back his salary at TTU a couple of years ago because he didn't think he did a good enough job, he's not all about the money) Well before this I've heard rumors that Knight might retire or leave soon because he doesn't like the lack of support from the community and the fact that it's near impossible to get blue chippers to come to Lubbock, Texas. I think he's ready for a change of scenery, so maybe Knoxville is the place, the big thing is that he'll want to control all aspects of the basketball program, which is more likely to be objected to by Pat Summit than Phillip Fulmer. And catfish, if you think that there is any place in Texas where football isn't always, always, always more important than basketball, you're either misinformed or kidding yourself.
  14. I can't see Smith asking for a release. He signed in November, and everybody knew then that with a rough year Peterson would probably be gone. He knew when he signed that this was possible. Plus, he knows that UT won't grant him a release. That's not just because of Smith, it's because of the precedent that it would set. It's hard enough in college sports to keep the guys you have commited to stay commited, coaches are not interested in fighting to keep guys who have already signed because they changed their mind and asked for a release.
  15. Dogg, the truth is that the 1st game Wilson Central caught Powell when they were playing their worst basketball of the season. No excuse there, but 40-18 is a whooping. I'd like to know how 1 player could help make up 22 points when every single other player on the team managed 18. Would it have been closer? Of course, but unless that 1 player is more important to the team than every single other member combined, you're sorta off base. The truth is that Powell is the only school in AAA to make it to the final 4 the past 2 years, when you predicted they wouldn't even make state. And the truth is that your last post was classless.
  16. I hope you're right bigcatt....I'm a little worried about Powell in this game. We've been playing fantastic lately, in my mind, better than Oak Ridge. But it just takes 1 off game and OR beat us twice in the regular season. We have to come out ready to play tonight, or the season will be over. Get it done Panthers, let's sweep District 3 and Region 2 championships.
  17. spunkmeyer, I know Farragut will have some guys step up, and I definitely think they're still the favorites in at least the district and possibly the state, but to say that waldrop is replaceable is nearly a laughable statement. You don't get picked in the 1st Round with a cool mill of a signing bonus and get labeled "replaceable" Farragut will have guys step up, but don't belittle the loss of Waldrop, it isn't exactly minor
  18. who are the favorites to start in the outfield for Powell? seems like they lost just about every outfielder on the varsity team last year to graduation, transfer, or just quitting baseball. Depending on if the guys step up the outfield could just be an albatross for the Panthers this year
  19. Everyone seems to be picking a 3aaa sweep. I'm all for it, but I think Halls gets clipped in the 1st round. That's not a knock on Halls, they're as good as the other 3 teams in 3aaa, but I think Maryville proved that they were the best team in 4aaa in the regular season and just had a bad game in semis. Halls just got a tough draw. I think Sharp, Borum, and May will keep it close, but unless 1 gets really hot, I think Maryville will get it done by a small margin.
  20. I want to give a special congrats to mocs, because he is a picking machine...if you look back at previous posts, he picked every single game in the district 3aaa tourney correctly
  21. Just wanted to congratulate all of the Panthers on their district championship. In particular 2 guys though. Patrick Addis and Miggi King came through big time for the Panthers. Addis scored 12 points, including a 3 on the opening possession and numerous free throws late to seal the deal. He also hounded Borum all game long and really limited his effectiveness at the offensive end. Migi King, a seldom used backup wing for the Panthers, did a fantastic job defensively when his time was called in the biggest game of the season. He also did a great job of getting after Borum and his block from behind on Sharp was a huge play as far as momentum. Congratulations to all the Panthers. You guys came together at the right time and played your best basketball when the stakes were highest. Keep doing what you're doing all the way through region.
  22. I'm sure this will unquestionably be a very stupid question, but can you buy tournament passes for the district? I'm new at following HS BB as closely as I have this year and if they do I was going to go ahead and go to the play-in game, but not if I have to pay for each day individually.
  23. I was very unimpressed with Clinton tonight. They played hard but they didn't seem to be that consistent offensively, with no post presence (Whitt is extremely talented but man did he force some shots tonight) Defensively......I know pressure defense can sometimes backfire, but I couldn't even keep track of how many uncontested layups the Panthers got. Powell is good, but not explosive enough to justify giving up 84 points in regulation. I'm sure Clinton didn't bring their "A" game tonight, though. Good win for Powell, hopefully this will get us rolling into district and beyond. On a side note, I thought the Clinton fans were awful. Despite the fact that before the late fouling Powell was actually whistled more times than the Dragons, the Clintons fans whined incessantly for 4 quarters. They had 1 foul called on them in the 1st quarter and cried like babies. Just flat-out annoying. I also couldn't believe that they exploded when their 6'6" 300 pound Vandy commit took a cheap shot on our 5'1" (yeah right) 150 lb point guard. Takes a big man to cheap shot some1 half his size, and even better individuals to cheer it wildly. Just shameful.
  24. I'm really not sure, the next 2 years will decide that. I know he has a lot of ability, and he will unquestionably get a very nice scholarship,D1 is certainly a possibillity, but I think SEC might be a bit of a reach
  25. Wow, how did I stumble across the Cameron Sharp fan club......guys, I hate to tell you this, but SEC isn't gonna happen. No one can dispute that he's a talented kid, but to be that short, if you want to play in the SEC,u have to be the quickest guy on the court every time you step out there, no matter who you are playing. Sharp is quick, but there are more athletic point guards just in the Knoxville area. I know he's a soph, but unless he got skipped a few grades, he's just about done growing, and he just isn't good enough to make up for how short he is. Maybe if he was 6'3" he could play in the SEC. Not 5'9" (he's listed at 5'11" which is very beilevable.)
