  1. Haven't seen too much favoritism the past few years but that's all fairly subjective based on ones own kids pt. I wasn't aware of any Sr that didn't get playing time seeing as how we are low in seniors anyway. Jordan is done to spend more time with family and I agree with your assessment of the current oc.
  2. The Ford kid is the best kick returner and should be returning punts, he has been starting at RB in certain sets but has always had a tendency to dance around instead of hit the hole hard (if you were at the G'ville game you probably saw him getting chewed out for this) he was also kicked off the team last year for disciplinary reasons so he may still not be in good favor with the staff. and yes I agree he should be given the chance to play CB over that certain CB that has been burned numerous times this season. South lost another senior WR/CB this week in a non football related injury so it just keeps getting worse for this team. You've got to hand it to the seniors for keeping the faith and playing and practicing hard, these kids were playing a couple of years ago for a team that won the conference title, beat G'ville in the 2nd round of playoffs and lost to eventual state champs Fulton, that's a pretty big drop off in a couple of years and you know those kids are disappointed in their Sr. season.
  3. South lost to Cherokee 55-44 but South has had a couple of key players injured since then. I still don't think the game will be competitive but Cherokee will score: 56-14
  4. South was down this year to begin with then add on top of that having a barrage of season ending injuries including the starting QB and 2 starting LB's/RB's and a starting WR/DB it doesn't add up for a productive season. Several sophomores are having to start both ways. South has been riding a high of athletic talent as of late but remember in 2012 they were down (I think 5-5 or 6-4 at best)and barely squeaked into the playoffs. Several athletes that would have helped this team out tremendously have chosen to concentrate on basketball or baseball or just quit sports all together. I know Colonial Heights Middle is undefeated this year so if those kids stay in Sullivan County South could be good again in a couple of years. We have a couple of Holston transfers that are seeing playing time as sophomores right now but I'm not sure about the freshman class. We also lost some key players to DB including their starting QB and 3 starting lineman from last years DB squad. In the end it is what it is and the ebb and flow of talent is more noticeable when you don't have as many students as you once did.
  5. The group that South had when Wieger was there was a very athletic group. 2 all staters and pretty much the entire skill position group were 1st team all conference. Although South does have some very good athletes right now we in no way have the talent across the board that South enjoyed 2 or 3 years ago. Several 10th graders are starting and are just now adapting to the speed of the game, we were much better against Seymour than we were against Boone and will continue to get better as the season goes on as long as the injury bug doesn't hit us too hard. I really don't see the talent level taking a huge jump for the next year or 2 for South either. I think the 8th graders at Colonial Heights are loaded and we have some talented freshmen right now so maybe in 3 years....
  6. This one could be closer than some fans think, This is the best team Boone has had in awhile, big line and a big, athletic QB will keep them in the game. I still think Betsy wins but I predict by 14 or less.
  7. Exactly correct. Unfortunately not a ton of talent on this team either. A few really good football players and some athletic sophomores who are lost right now. Play calling is predictable at best.
  8. By the way Boones QB is gonna be a good one.
  9. South will get better. We had 16 kids tonight getting their first varsity start. 2nd half looked better. Our secondary is going to have to grow up quick. We played with heart and never quit. Linebackers played well.
  10. Nice Stats blazer, one correction though, Boone last won in 2012. South was loaded in 2013 and 2014.
  11. Yes Perry is back also and will carry the ball some as well along with Ford. Perry is another one of the LBs as well so hopefully we have enough depth at RB to keep everyone rested and hydrated.
  12. Lovell and Strickler are the top 2 returning RB's from last year. From what I can tell they have a lot of kids shuffling in and out though since these two are far to important at LB to let them rest on D.
  13. North was more physical and seemed to be in better shape than South. With the starters it was 3TD's for North to 2TD's for South and South didn't run their #1 or #2 RB at all. Poor tackling in the secondary allowed 2 of North's TD's. South will need to grow up quick in the secondary, they have good athletes in those positions. North's D line gave our O line trouble. South's QB ran well when needed. I honestly think it will take a few games before we really gel, that's why I think the Boone game will be a toss up.
  14. Not much of a South fan if you are giving up after 1 SCRIMMAGE Pudding. I don't remember you making a post like this about North the last 2 times we played them in an actual game. South is young and missed several tackles but from what I understand that's what a scrimmage is for.
  15. This game could go either way. We are young in some areas but have experience at QB, RB and LB's. I know Boone has a good OL and DL. This will be an interesting game to say the least. No predictions from me!!
  16. Thanks, that makes sense and like RebRaider said it does resemble the South feeder system.
  17. DandDD, from what I remember Church Hill Middle School football was always strong and beat Colonial Heights on more than one occasion when my kids were that age. Why the big fall off from Middle to High School?
  18. I think the conference as a whole will be very competitive this season. Greenville will be strong as usual but i think everyone else will be fairly even. Should make for an exciting season.
  19. Correct Pudding, South's 2 starting RB's had around 50 yds combined on a combined 8 carries or so. The bulk of the work was on the QB who in all honesty will be 3rd string QB at best when the season rolls around. He is a good athlete but we have 2 other QB's that are much better. For both teams the scrimmage was about getting younger kids experience. Maupin passed a lot and looked good for DB whose receivers looked good as well. I think both teams will be better than last year but it was really hard to tell much from the scrimmage. Good luck to DB this season.
  20. South will struggle in this one especially with the loss of our QB and main offensive threat for the season. Our run D is not bad but we haven't seen much speed the past few games. South will try to control the clock with the run game and does have an experienced line and backs that run hard but it probably won't be enough to test the Devils. Unfortunately I say the devils will win easily and the race for 2nd,3rd and 4th place in the conference will be interesting.
  21. I'm thinking South by 2 TD's. Gate City always plays hard especially at home so it could easily be much closer than that.
  22. Falcons will shock the world and..... score 7 pts. Final Gdevils 56 - Falcons7
