  1. In addition, you guys will be fine against North Side. The Indians lack of experience is showing and the kids are getting blind by the lights. No fight.
  2. Agree. That's why I'm simply saying show me proof of numbers telling me there's a shortage. Giving the "newer" guys the games that aren't worth attending to will get old quick and will make them leave. Just like working in a restaurant business, want to see someone leave your business, give them crappy hours. And it might be a good official that walks out the door because he's constantly working crappy games, just happens that he is young .
  3. Spot on BigEd, that was probably your best post here on the T, and I am not being sarcastic. Just seems like we all want instant success, but forget about the word and patience and what it means.
  4. The chances of him remaining as an assistant will be slim. He simply drove that program down and quit on the kids. I don't know what to do if I am Humboldt, but I will certainly look into hiring a young and upcoming assistant that will bring a positive vibe into Humboldt football. Good news for Humboldt is that they have time to evaluate their program, if they are willing to do that. They also may have to open the paycheck a little bit, but we all have something to say about Humboldt. They simply have the talent to make a deep playoff run year in and year out. No business for this team to not play Huntingdon in November.
  5. A few things, my team could probably beat Union City in the past, but they can't this year because my team lacks talent and depth this year. I hate using 'rebuilding' to describe a high school football team, but my team fits into the 'rebuilding' category. Second, I never downplayed Mayfield. I simply said that the "bend don't break" motto on defense is rarely successful come playoff time. Yes, points is the only stat that matters. But 300 yards is a lot for a team that simply runs the football just to get 4 yards. I've seen some crazy posters on CoachT, but seeing someone who's from a different state puts you close to the top. I mine as well go to CoachW and talk high school football to Wyomians or CoachV and talk high school football to Vermontans. Should I?
  6. Y'all "bend don't break" is a very good philosophical defense for the regular season, but is it a very good strategy on defense come playoff time? 300 yards on defense, but gave up 0 points? Give yourself a pat on the back, but what happened if UC scored four touchdowns? Sometimes, teams get lucky and teams don't. Sometimes, the "bend don't break" defense doesn't bend on a Friday night, it just breaks. And if that happens in a playoff game, that stinks.
  7. He's trying his best. Gotta give him the benefit of the doubt. There's usually two guys at the Sun, but one of them moved over to the education department two weeks ago and left sports, leaving one guy to do 40+ High Schools to cover and having to cover football, volleyball, girls soccer, cross country, golf, and preparing for both boys and girls basketball, which is not an easy job to do. Not trying to make an excuse for him, but I feel bad for the guy. He simply does have a passion to cover high school sports, which something that we as normal people should praise him for. We as people often criticize journalists for being a 'homer' to one or two schools and/or not giving our school any credit.
  8. They'll support basketball only in the month of February. I've been to a few of their home games in previous years and the attendance has been average. To me, getting Shaq to Jackson showed somewhat of a desperation. If they have money in their programs, Shaq probably wouldn't be coming to Jackson.
  9. We can all sit here on our electronic device and bash Coach Reid and Humboldt High all they want, but that is unfair to Coach Reid. Truth is, Humboldt has no pride in their school. There's a lack of community support that supports their Vikings. I have no idea how many bottoms are sitting in Humboldt's stadium on Friday nights in the fall. Something I need to look into. I talked to a assistant at Humboldt and he just mainly said that their are athletes at Humboldt have scholarships to play college football but shoot themselves in the foot and stay home. Who's fault is that? Coach Reid? The athlete? Or the parent(s) of that athlete? Sometimes, the community fails too, not saying that this is all on the communities fault. But Humboldt lost 20+ seniors for a 1A school, of course they aren't going to be extremely competitive this year. I didn't think Coach Reid will ever get Humboldt to that 'level' that we are all expecting, but next time I want to see the Humboldt community to support their Vikings, or do a better job at it.
  10. I said that because it's insulting to the players. What I mean is this, in 2012-2014, North Side would always start 2-0/3-0 on their season. We have about 65 players that dressed out (sophomores-seniors only) unless a Freshman can produce on Friday night, but unlikely that rarely happens. When we got off to that 3-0 start and the temperature drops into the high 70's in September, that's when we saw about 5 players randomly on our team. Unfortunately, those 5 players rarely got playing time, and if they did, it would be in blow out games. They mostly were JV players. It may or may not happen everywhere, but it especially happens at North Side. Which in my opinion, it's not fair to the players that worked all June and all July in the heat, 7 on 7's, and scrimmages. I don't know if the TSSAA has a rule, but I wish they can make a rule where all schools have to turn in their roster by their 1st game on Friday night, which will unfortunately kill schools like Middle College, MASE, and TCA for an example. I let BigEd and TCAIntense slide on the lack of the depth in football, but I don't let them slide on that in basketball and baseball because they always have 20 players on basketball and baseball teams.
  11. Are they that bad? I mean, I know JCS has little to no talent, but I thought they could have build something off last year despite losing Whitmore, their RB. Seems like they lost all the momentum.
  12. If there is a shortage, then I need to see numbers to prove it. I don't know what the dream is for the state to have on officials and the amount of officials at each game (whether if it's 7 man crew or a 5 man crew). I will say this, there are a lot of older officials who probably won't be in the black and white stripes in 2020, and I believe there will not be enough amount of reinforcement to replace the older officials. At the end of the day, I just want officials to be in good shape, make good calls, not be 'flag-happy' and hustle to get yourself in position to make the call (also dont be lazy if there's a blowout).
  13. Don't worry utvol, if TCA starts 2-0/3-0 this year, I'm sure they'll get kids. Happens all the time at North Side, but won't happen this year.
  14. Thanks for the info! I noticed Freedom Prep's schedule and they will also play Ripley and Lake County later on the season. I want to see those charter schools in Memphis succeed in sports. I've heard of Middle College as well. M.A.S.E out of Memphis played their first game last night in schools history as well, but lost to Fayette Ware. I want to see McNairy Central make the playoffs, but it looks like the game against South Gibson will be the game. I believe Covington is a 'lock.' Even though the Hornets beat Lexington, I am still not sold on SGC simply because I know Lexington is down. But I'll let nature play it course and see in the future. Goodluck to y'all!!
  15. Y'all were one of two teams in West Tennessee I believe that didn't scrimmage a team in late July/early August. However, y'all played Freedom Prep. Was that planned? Let Freedom Prep be the "scrimmage game"?
  16. If North Side scored their 2 point conversion on their final TD, NS would've won. Chester County did the same exact thing in Henderson, and didn't convert. I believe that game went into OT. Anyhow, Lexington stopped them and that was history. However, our region, 6-4A, will be down and I mean DOWN!!! I don't think any of us will win 7 games. Hardin County may have the best chance.
  17. Y'all were also 2 plays from not making the playoffs last year.
  18. You just said it "the triple option is nasty if you have the players to run it.." Lexington had those players previous years with Johnson as their QB and Tisdale and Hollingsworth as RB's and Gilliam as their WR. Since they lost a QB who was probably the biggest QB (built wise) in WTN, a RB that is tall and was extremely hard to stop in Tisdale. Don't think they have enough this year, but I do think they have enough for Friday. Lexington's problem in previous years was that the offense was so run heavy, that they still ran the ball being down 2 TD's in the 4th Q, honestly came predictable. Tough to be down by 14 in the 4th if your team is a offense that specializes in running the ball and only running.
  19. If South Gibson can match the physicality that Lexington should bring, then I believe SGC will win. I don't believe Lexington has the weapons that they used to have in the short previous years. However, SGC's running back must have a big game. Honestly, I have no idea where the direction of SGC's program is going, which worries me.
  20. North Side, Lexington, and Hardin County lost a ton due to graduation. We all know Liberty lost their main 6 players and just hired a coach last month. Needless to say, there is not a clear cut team who wins this region this year. You can make an argument for all 4 teams to finish 1st, just as you can make the same argument for all 4 teams to finish 4th. It's a free game. Chester County lacks depth, South Side lacks talent.
  21. The games in Memphis are moved to Thursday because there's not enough fields for games on Friday nights. In other words, the fairgrounds which is located right beside the Liberty Bowl. There will be a game on a Thursday and Friday. Same goes for Crump, J.P. Freeman, etc. They have been doing this for years. Not every school in Memphis has a football field. However, the school district in Memphis has added new charter schools where they have football teams.
  22. When you think of facilities, you think of one word...Pride! JMCSS has failed their athletes and coaches because they don't know how to have pride into these schools. Pride is when the school district reward athletics team and indiviual athletes for their success. A tweet or a facebook post saying "Congrats to Liberty on advancing to Cookeville in football" carries little to no weight at all. When you have a weightroom that's as big as a classroom, you have a problem. I don't care if it's Liberty or one of the smallest schools in the state, Bruceton. Facility wise, Liberty is actually blessed. Yes, they are the newest school. But y'all have the new metal bleachers, y'all have the track that surronds your football field. Restrooms are really nice compared to North Side and South Side, and you guys and South Side have concrete surronding the concession stand area while North Side simply have.....rocks. South Gibson's problem is that they can't find a way to beat Milan, Dyersburg, Westview, and Crockett County consistently. Yes, they will beat one of those four once a year, but they can't find a way to beat three out of those four, each year. TCA's problem is simply defense and staying healthy. And they know that! Tyler Turner was going back near Arkansas anyway, regardless of what Liberty looked like. He used Liberty as a "stepping stone" for him. Orenthus Taylor is a head stracher. He does not have a good resume. Assistant at Fayette Ware when they had a long losing streak, assistant at Haywood when I believe Coach Jackson was there, they weren't a good football team. Three years at JCM, record of 7-24, going 0-10 in the final season. Goes down to Trezevant as an assistant and won two state championships, but now centered around the grading scandle and all of that crap. I didn't expect Liberty to get a Tyler Turner type coach but I've wondered if they could find someone that had a better resume than Taylor. Back to the pride comment I said, I will add this into this just to show how much Liberty REALLY CARES about their athletes. I've heard from a valuable souce (as good as it gets) that Rodney Castille (the WR that won a track event at the spring fling in Murfreesboro) had to pay for his state championship ring that he won because LIBERTY didn't want to pay for his state championship ring. EXPLAIN THAT?!?!?!?!?!?
  23. It'll be Week 4-6 in that time frame. I honestly don't know but we open up with Germantown and Haywood.
