Someone has already mentioned it but if a kid/family wants badly enough to move then they will anyways. I do think it would clear up some of the subjectivity that's in play right now, where some kids are granted and some are not. Schools and programs would adjust.

The shoe on the other foot? Rankin has been incredible at Boyd with a 25-2 record. CPA is the best of the best. Regardless of how he has done, He shouldn't have to play McCallie unless Boyd and McCallie decide they want to play. No one should be okay with TSSAA scheduling non-region games for any team. There still hasn't been one legitimate argument for this happening, just a bunch of haters saying its okay because in the past Rankin has owned their team. Does anyone have a real argument to make?
-
Staying on his point here...If I didn't know any better, Derek782 sounds like he may have spent some time arguing cases in the court of law.
-
This is the exact issue! Arguing about Rankin's success and his time at Alcoa is moot as it relates to this issue.
-
He played the teams in his classification. End of story. You’re all in your feels. The gap between Boyd Buchanan, who is the 16th team and the very bottom team, Mt Juliet Christian, is much less than the gap between Boyd the 16th place team and McCallie the top team. This only furthers his point and any coaches point who has a problem with this scenario.
-
Per TSSAA website: McCallie enrollment 1456. All boys number x2. Success factor final rating 0.9325. Highest under new rules. Boyd enrollment 390. Success factor final rating 0.3342. 16th under new rules.

The issue isn’t about Alcoa or Rankin. Apparently, many on here are still in upset about the success he had at Alcoa. Step off that for a second and recognize that this is a completely different scenario than actual region games or playoff game for schools in the same class or a smaller school scheduling a larger school to play by choice. The TSSAA is forcing all the 2A schools listed above to play larger schools. If Riverside or UC had been scheduled, by TSSAA, to play Collierville and Ensworth, folks would have stroked out. Lots of schools schedule up in size and historically, Boyd has as well. Often times they’ve had to do so to fill the schedule. If the larger Div II schools can’t fill the schedule then maybe the snowflakes are the larger public schools that will play down in public or Div II schools but not against the best private schools in the state.
-
Are the 3A schools asking for help scheduling games? If not, why would the TSSAA even get involved? Why wouldn’t they at minimum contact the coaches of the smaller schools and can they even force these schools to play? It’s not a region game. I’m sure everyone on here calling Rankin out would be fine with being forced to play schools with 2 or 3 times their enrollment.

Was a bit surprised by the score of the CA/TCA game. Looks like the Middle region was strong this year. Any thoughts on the outcomes of this week's sub state games?

Who are the favorites and which is the most likely to fall? Here are my picks….. JC - Should win easily. NC - Should win easily. FC - It’s tough to be a good team twice, but I’m not sure how good DCA actually is. Someone else could give some more context on this rematch. TC - I believe this is the game that could go either way. Trinity has some great athletes hut are pretty thin as far as depth is concerned. I know Columbia Academy is always super scrappy and well coached. Plus, they’re the home team.

I believe the Bucs will be fine. Seemed that DA had a great game plan for ball control and had success on the ground, similar to the playoff game against them last year. Throwing the ball was a different story for DA and the Bucs offensive weapons did what they have all year. USJ won the region out west but it was on a tie break with Lausanne, NorthPoint, and USJ all having only 1 loss. Those 3 teams were very evenly matched and my guess is Lausanne was the best team even though they lost to USJ on a 2-pt conversion in OT. It's a tough draw for the Bucs, but it's the playoffs and should be. I loved the response Booger...😂 dint see it...but thinkin it was a recipe for success by bout 25 pts

I agree with the se picks Reitz.

What's DCA looking like for this week? Any chance against Nashville Christian?
-
The west will be decided on Friday as JC host TCA for the region championship. They share an exact record with all common opponents and have really dominated the region. Each has a loss to USJ. I’m sure TCA has upset on their minds like last year and JC has been waiting with a bad taste in their mouths since late October 2023. Should be some exciting times at Ronnie Fowler Stadium/Southern Capital Field next week. Is the middle and east all wrapped up? Any ideas on early playoff matchups based on standings?
-
I believe you're spot on with your thoughts. It's tough to identify a particular order but I think your top 3 are CA, NC, and JC. I would guess one of these 3 will bring home the gold ball and the bracket alignment will play a role. Any idea how the bracket sets up this year? CA - 2 losses. I have no clue about Webb but Huntingdon is always tough. They return the RB who was very good last year and probably some other guys or new guys. NC - 1 loss. Only loss to 2A BGA who only has 1 loss to CPA. The Davidson win doesn't look as good as it did early on. Great QB. JC - 1 loss. Only loss to undefeated 2A crosstown rival USJ in the left over hurricane weather a few weeks ago. They are dealing with injuries right now but Mr. Football (Mosley) is back and getting better and better each week after his season ending injury last year. When healthy they are deep with guys.

The Elephant in the Room - the two boarding schools
WestTNBuc replied to MoonDogRex's topic in Division II
This is the one of the best posts I’ve ever read on coacht…full of facts and challenges. Keep it up Whoweft! -
Goodpasture played hard and seemed to be coached well but they weren’t close in the talent space against JC. They were smaller, slower, and not as strong. That 2A league is tough but from what Insaw they would struggle against the top 1A teams with the roster as is.
-
My bad, JC was only up 17-3 in the first half. We’ll see how it all plays out in week 10.
-
I’ve only seen JC play but have a hard time thinking they aren’t as good or better than they were last year and they defeated USJ easily and were up 17 before Mosley went down with the injury in the TCA game. Also, TCA lost to Chester Co and I’ve heard they have less than 30 players on the roster. That will make it tough on them by week 10 when travel to JC Regardless of how Friday goes, it will be a big showdown on McClellan next week at JC travels to face the Bruins!

The “weak” schedule had them beating everyone, including in the playoffs, until CPA. My guess is the Rankin effect and CPA losing some of their best from last years team, and wishful thinking. I know they will reload…just taking a stab at it.

It's hard to know what some of the teams look like from year to year with kids moving and changing schools. I know MTCS, Friendship, DCA, CA, NCS and maybe some others from Mid/East should be good. In the west, it runs through JCS and TCA. JCS has a ton back from last year and would have looked different in week 10 and playoffs with Mosley playing. He was unstoppable for the most part last year and they struggled a bit once he was hurt but he'll be back along with the QB, RB, other skill players, a number of lineman. They also had a former student who moved to Memphis with his parents work after 8th grade move back to Jackson and will give teams problems along the defensive line and have a few young guys who seemed to have progressed over last year and the summer. I'm confident the teams mentioned above have kids developing as well so until we get into the season a bit, it will be tough to tell. Any idea what sort of player numbers the teams above have out? I got the impression from an article that TCA may not have as many kids out as in the past. I know JC has around 50 kids suiting up this year.

A - JCS AA - Boyd Buchanan AAA - Baylor
-
AAA - I don't have much pulse on 3A except to say that the Chattanooga schools have been dominate as of late so my guess is the winner comes from Baylor or McCallie or whoever can knock them off. AA - After attending the AA championship game I would say CPA has to be the favorite. Also, playing in the last 6 championship games and winning a few doesn;t hurt either. They had close to, if not, 100 kids dressed out and some studs on the field and sidelines so they keep reloading, right? Rankin will continue to develop Boyd's program and they will be tough. They had many young players contributing so they should continue to improve. I would say other teams in the running would be Davidson, FRA, Webb, Lausanne. Reynolds may have a better year next year at CCS too. A - My picks in no particular order would be CA, DCA, JC, FC, MTCS. I leave out NC only based on what posters have said about Curtis moving on. If he's back, then they obviously jump back in the mix if not move closer to the overall favorite.

How about them Bucs!!!

You won most years but they have a gold ball and remind me, did you guys play the lowly eagles this year?
