  1. Gotta keep this in mind too, it's not always a good omen to win this regular season contest when you have to meet again in the playoffs. "Hard to beat a good team twice"
  2. Not sure how this one will go. After last night, it's obvious that Trenton has improved a lot, getting a huge win! Not sure you can read much into UC's first 2 results, Mayfield is in a different league, and UC's offensive scheme is hard to stop for anyone around here. It will also be interesting to see how Trenton can respond immediately after winning a hard fought game with Milan. Playing Milan and UC back to back to open the year is brutal!
  3. I was at this game and it was a classic, Both of these teams will win a lot of games. And anyone who thinks this isn't a rivalry anymore I have to disagree 100%. But Trenton won this game the old fashioned way in the trenches. The offensive line and defensive lines won out and led Trenton on long clock absorbing drives and maintained good field position and the defensive line was in Milan's backfield a lot which kept their playmakers from getting going. Trenton's skill players also played with a lot of heart and we're laying it on the line scratching for extra yards. Complete team effort. Definitely worth the price of admission.
  4. Not sure I can agree with that. Trenton has Shane Jacobs and Tab Vowell, most teams would be happy to have that combo. In regard to last year, Trenton was rebuilding big time and lost to 3 teams, state champion Dresden, Union City and Milan, which are 3 of the very best teams in the area, none of which would have been affected by coaching . In regard to this years game, Milan is loaded and it will be a major challenge for Trenton. Hopefully it will be a good game!
  5. Milan has historically had the best program year in/out in West TN football since the 1970s and during that time they have beat Trenton consistently for the most part. However to say this isn't a rivalry game I have to disagree with in terms of location and familiarity. And I also think this series has taken a definite turn in the last several years with Trenton's program on the upswing. The last four years this series is 2-2, so I would say this rivalry is better than it's been in a long time
  6. 2a just got a lot harder with the addition of Union City, Trenton and Trousdale Co
  7. After watching Dresden-Peabody, it's pretty clear to me about a few things. 1. Dresden has picked a good year to be good! UC and Trenton are both having down years at the same time due to graduation and injuries. 2. That being said they didn't look much different from last year, which is a compliment because they were good last year. 3. I would pick them to go 10-0 no problem, just not sure of the significance there is due to the competition level. 4. They are the favorite to get to the semifinals and at that point you'll know how good they are.
  8. While it sound like Humboldt has improved, I'm still going with Trenton in this one. Even though they are 1-2 they played two of the top teams in West TN to start the year with a new lineup not to mention they were successful moving the ball against UC (400 yards). That stat to me is much more relevant in assessing the strength of a team than a big win over South Fulton who has been basically irrelevant for years. But hope it's a good game and I do believe it will be close!
  9. I think Trenton will have a better showing this week than the Milan game. Hopefully it will be a competitive game. Still a very tall order to go to UC and get a win as it is any year.
  10. I can definitely agree that Middleton could be better at football solely because they clearly have good athletes on the basketball court. However, being the South Pitt of West Tenn is far-fetched in my opinion. It takes a lot more than just good skill position athletes to be an elite team. Besides, every school has their priority sport and it's almost impossible to win big at 2 in 1A simply because they compete in practice time as well as community interest and boosters to provide the programs with the means to generate good coaching, facilities and necessities required to compete at a high level.
  11. However agreed, the secondary's speed is an area of concern. Especially against some of the top tier teams they'll play like Dresden and Union City. Also, cleaning up missed tackles and willingness to play physical football must be addressed for improvement. However, that's a common theme when going up against Milan. They'll be fine this week against Middleton though.
  12. While Peabody had a tough one the other night, you have to keep your analysis on this team in perspective. Most of the kids on the field, it was their first varsity start, and going up against a loaded Milan team who were superior to the majority of the teams they are going to play this season. Trenton has too good of a program to just fall off completely, and as these players gain experience they will become competitive.
  13. IMO, these two teams staff's have the quality present that I don't think the game will be won on the headset. winning at Milan has been rare commodity for oppositions over the years, and most likely Trenton will have to do something special to get the W as well as play mistake free football. That being said I wouldn't count them out either! Hopefully it will be a competitive game. And by the way, as much community support and boosters as Milan has, how come they don't do something to correct that crested field?
  14. UC wins this one by as much as they want to, and get back in the winner's column
  15. Bigswo, in reference to the Munford game, you pretty much hit it on the knob I believe. Yes I have no doubt that y'all are stacked and have a great program! But Munford, unless something has changed in a year is a subpar program. I saw them scrimmage about 2 years ago against another smaller program and they were basically run-ruled in that one too. Taking nothing away from UC.
  16. So most people know how good Dresdens offensive skill players look this far, definitely loaded! How does the offensive/defensive lines look, and just their defense in general for the upcoming year?
  17. As I said earlier, Dresden appears primed. But you have to beat the man to get to the top. 1. UC, 2. Dresden, 3. Trenton and 4 is a toss up but I'm leaning toward Humboldt.
  18. Definitely the toughest 1A or 2A district. While Dresden returns everybody and it would appear on paper that it's their year, I'm still questioning their ability to get past Union City this season. Dresden has the athletes headlined by Winn, but in the big games outside of Trenton the first time, they weren't able to get over the top last year. And UC will probably be better than they were last year if anything. I don't think Trenton will just fall off the map either based on how the new personnel develops.
  19. I think if UC would turn to the air raid offense everyone else would take those odds. That style of offense is not reliable no matter how good you are in relation to veer, and it's not made for long winning streaks. Keep pounding it.
  20. I like the poll for the most part. Not sure I would have South Pitt and Greenback up that high just yet. I mean they could definitely end up in Cookeville, but based on how non competitive the east has been the past 3 years up there, I would have to bump Huntingdon and Trenton ahead for now
  21. District wins over Greenfield and maybe South Fulton possibly. Beyond that I don't see it. Good luck, and wish you well though
  22. I don't know about beauty, but it is definitely super effective. However by some miracle if UC's opponent is up late in the game, that style of offense can make them vulnerable in that it's not a fast-strike offense unless they break one, which is entirely possible. The one game they lost last year, they had to turn to the pass out of the shotgun and it looked like a Chinese fire drill.. But hey, 1 loss in 30+ games, I'd take those odds
  23. UC is a very, very tough team to beat even when they are just a bit down, they reload and like Swo said earlier success breeds success! I've watched them play good Dresden and Trenton teams several times over the past 3 years, and as their opponent your margin for error is extremely small. Bottom line you have to get an early lead and stay ahead, because they're drives are long and super consistent eating up the clock giving you very little chance to come back. Their offense really is a good form of defense in a way.
  24. But just like anything else, success is cyclical. With teams like Trousdale, South Pitt, Greenback, etc they are bound to get back on top at some point. After reclassification next year there's no telling
  25. Not sure about the full top ten, but based on the last 5 years or so of results, I would probably go west heavy on the top 10, with the emphasis on NCS, UC, Dresden. Just based on the state championship game of recently, the east has been noncompetitive against the Wes. Therefore at this time, I would take more stock into the West even if their teams are Rebuilding
