  1. It appears to me that Gleason "threw" that game against Dresden, but it's neither here nor there now. Greenfield shouldn't have any problem in Region play and I expect them to come out of it with a home sectional game. That's the reality of it. For us, GC could very well lose game 1 or game 2 and never get a chance against Greenfield. Gleason is a scrappy, physical team and if UC plays like they did against Greenfield...we could have a whole lot of problems. Hopefully, we'll get a chance at the Jackets but no matter who's in the Championship and sectional....good luck to our NW Tennessee girls. We've got some great basketball being played up here and we're fortunate. A lot of talented players between Gibson, Weakley, Carroll and Obion counties will be on the court in the next few days.
  2. Thanks. I don't know you and if you're taken these CoachT posts as calling "you" out, then our conversation wouldn't go anywhere anyways. I'm proud of our team, our town, our school too...and I'm also proud of your school/team...but I don't disrespect other schools, unless it's conduct related by the fans/players. From a lot of your past posts and I really don't think you mean to come across that way, but for the average reader (TO ME)...you come across as disrespectful in some of your comments against other great programs in our area. I'll be the first to say that this year's Greenfield team is an awesome team and that's no secret....see, I'm agreeing with you on that point but it's not going to be a cakewalk after sectional. Good luck to the Lady Jackets....it's going to get harder than what you've had to this point.
  3. Oh yes. I totally agree. Who can lose without making it looked like we done it on purpose. GC fans would revolt. Line em up and play em....beat them now or later, in reality if you're not 1st at the end of a tourney....you're the next to last loser.
  4. Refresh me on what I missed last night. I was standing at the top of the gym directly across from the Greenfield crowd last night. What did I miss? Honestly? I didn't hear anyone talking about anything out of the ordinary during the game. I only saw comments about it on Coacht. I also left with about a minute to go in the game to avoid the traffic.
  5. No problem. I'm friends with several of the Greenfield and Martin folks due to family and thru basketball & summer leagues. I believe that "kid" from Greenfield is actually a gentlemen around 65 or so on here talking all of that noise. Sadly, he assists in putting a "bullseye" on his team's back when he starts calling out other teams. Gibson County doesn't pay him any attention. He's a blinded "hometown" loyalist.
  6. Who ever gets Crockett County will have to play well...They're well coached and the loss to SGC shocked 13AA. No one saw that one coming. Wouldn't expect a performance like that in back to back games.
  7. Yes I agree...I was talking about during the actual game, the student section can play a role...in the "post" game, I totally agree about heckling and chanting at an opposing player. I'm pointing out to the Greenfield fans that are on here crying how they were treated by the UC student section last night, that they need to look in the mirror. They have a short memory when it comes to their own actions.
  8. Don't get too caught up in his A/AA/AAA warped thinking. In basketball, only 5 team players can play on a court at once...so if you have a strong 5 you can go, typically the difference occurs in players 6-7-8-9. He's been on a 4 year tangent about Westview being "scared" of Greenfield (even though they've only played 5 times in the last 20-21 years) and you know how bad WV has been in the last decade. lol. It's laughable to us coaches and people that know basketball and read these boards, but "hometown" pride will override logic and being able to be objectionable about your own team's limitations for a lot of fans. It's sort of like the "small dog" or "short man" syndrome. Gotta BARK BARK loud and chest thump...even if your players can't back it up. Typical small town rhetoric that real programs ignore in the grand scheme. A, AA, AAA will all have good State Tournament games this year. Everyone else on here respects Loretto and "yes" I watched the Greenfield/Loretto game at Westview. Loretto had more to do with how Greenfield played compared to how "bad" that Greenfield played on their own in the first half. 99.9% of us respect your program and appreciate what all of the good teams have and actually understand basketball from an objectionable perspective.
  9. ...seems like a year ago that I remember Greenfield chanting "over rated" to the Lee girl from TCA. I wasn't at that game, but that was the big hub bub last year. I didn't think anything negative about either student section from what I heard last night. That's part of the hometown support and no one was offended last night, except for some soft skinned parents.
  10. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but just IMO I thought Howard was the most important player on Dyersburg. Newsom is a tough player too.
  11. No disrespect to Pankey. She's a good ball player and very tough, but......I'm not even sure she's the 2nd best player in their district. IMO
  12. Who made the All-District team for WV? I would've had Harrison, Yancy, Callins, & Leyhue (the outside shooter). Harrison should've been MVP....not even that close.
  13. Watched both games.... Game 1: Who could lose without looking like they wanted to lose...shoud be the caption to this recap. No sense or urgency from Gleason at any time during the game. I think a lot of fans also wanted their team to lose, so they could stay opposite of Greenfield in the Regional tourney. Don't agree with that mindset, but it is what it is. It didn't appear that Gleason played their normal rotation in the 2nd half and most teams when they're trying to win in the 4th....(and are down), start pressuring. I believe Gleason through up a token press with about a minute to go and down by 15. It ain't winning an Oscar in Hollywood. Game 2: Terrible officiating. 6 whistles called after the play was over and both teams got bad calls or no calls. Credit to Union City for attacking the Greenfield press. I didn't think they would be able to handle the ball well enough to do that, but I haven't seen UC play that way this season. As I've watched (it seems 25 times over the last 4 years), Chloe Moore took over the game and UC had no answer. Williams from Union City was a beast and she played the best game I've ever watched her play. If UC plays next week like they did tonight, will be a tough out. Bring on the Regional Tourney!!
  14. I think both Chloe and Tess are great players, but I concur with this statement. Every possession goes through Chloe and she is and has been the General on that team since she stepped on the court. She makes everyone around her better and by her being unselfish it allows her teammates to flourish. When all 3 were on the court at the Showcase classic in Martin, it was obvious to everyone in that gym who the best player on the court was and that is NOT a slight to Tess or Karly. They're all 3 great players, but Chloe showed in the 4th quarter what separates her from the other two.
  15. Every year it seems there's a hard draw and a soft draw and some paths are easier to get to the title game.....in a Greenfield v. Loretto part 2, if it happens....It'll be a great one I'm sure.
  16. I listened to your local coaches show on 101.3 this morning and I heard something that was interesting from WV's coach and always wondered why WV don't have bigger margins in a lot of their games, when it's obvious they could run it up if they wanted to....he basically said that he doesn't like getting ahead over 35 in a game due to the running clock. I was thinking....the fans get their money's worth and he gets to get the young girls on the court for longer periods of time. He said Callins got in foul trouble early last night, and he didn't want to put her back in up 30 and her catch an unnecessary injury. I watched WV and Dyersburg in Dyersburg the other night and it appears that WV is clicking on all cylinders now and had control of that game from start to finish. It's wild to see how they do this year in and year out and the WV Freshmen is probably one of the best players that I've seen in the last several years for her grade level. Good luck to our AA neighbors to the North. Hope you guys have a deep run!
  17. I know I'm beating a "dead horse" on here about your statement about WV reaching out to play a powerhouse like Greenfield next year or their current AD reaching out, but you do realize that that Greenfield & WV has only played 5 games in the last 20 years......I'd actually say that it's been a fun 4 years watching your girls play ball. Enjoy this ride, that's a special group. But in my normal mode of honesty, your misconception about Westview dodging Greenfield for some reason is a lot closer to your zip code than the Martin zip code. I've heard that from multiple coaches in and around our district and I believe them. Believe me, we've asked the same question as well.
  18. I have a strange feeling that the AD doesn't schedule their non-district games...just a guess. lol
  19. Coach McNeal is an awesome coach and his team always fights & believes. Good W for SS.
  20. I thought that was probably the best "all around" game we played all year and we needed that win. It didn't hurt that they were only in their 2nd game without Callins and their true freshman was in her 5th or 6th game either, but anytime you can go in to that gym and win...it's a good win. Somone said they're only losing 2 or 3 seniors, so I guess they'll be decent for a few more years. lol
  21. I've been back & forth on this one this season. The first 16-17 games, I didn't believe WV could go with Greenfield this year, and know they couldn't without Callins, especially after we beat WV in the Showcase classic. The last 7-8 games, I think it's a toss up now. I don't know how well Greenfield or us could handle WV's defense at this point in the season. I wouldn't want to face them at this point in the season. I've said it over the last 7-8 years...if you're going to get WV, get them early in the season before they change the way they play. Everyone that knows basketball, knows that Haskins holds the team up until it starts to count and it obviously works. Hopefully, everyone will stay healthy in our NW area and we'll have some reps in the Boro.
  22. Since we're playing Madison Academic, I may go watch WV @ Dyersburg on Tuesday night. According to my Martin people, WV has switched to their District defense and they're only giving up 28 pts a game over the last 8 games. I like Dyersburg's gym too.
  23. Westview is a completely different team with her on the court. The best thing about her being out was the experience gained by the others, but with her, Yancy, and Harrison on the court together and being able to handle the ball..they're a very athletic and dyanmic trio. I also hear the big girl has come on the last 2 or 3 weeks as well and is playing "older" now. WV should be very tough the rest of the way in. I believe if Callins would've remained healthy all year, WV could very well be undefeated at this point. Someone said that Crockett only scored 4 points in the 2nd half of their game last night and it's evident that when WV has their defense on, it can be frustrating but 4 points???? Glad we got you early in the season....lol
  24. Pretty interesting hire.....wonder if he'll get 2 years of head coaching experience and then jump to the QB position coach at UTM in about 2 years? Of the names I've heard in consideration, this one was kind of surprising. Hope it works out. Good luck to Coach Neal and Westview.
