  1. Worse than Red Boiling Springs?
  2. The TSSAA requirements have changed over the last few years to allow non faculty head coaches at public schools 2020-21 TSSAA Handbook Section 9. All coaches must be registered with TSSAA annually and will fall under one of the following categories: 1. Full-time certified teacher (a minimum of 100 school days) of a board of education with a Tennessee teaching license or the equivalent. 2. Retired educator (five or more years' experience) with a valid Tennessee state teaching license or the equivalent. 3. Non-faculty coach – Anyone approved by the principal, superintendent, and/or local board of education in the normal course of employment procedures in accordance with applicable state law. 4. Classified Employee – Any individual employed by a member school or school system in a position that does not require a teaching license or the equivalent. A Classified Employee must be employed 30 hours or more per week in a non-coaching position and may not be an independent contractor or an employee of an independent contractor. and in their FAQ Q. Can a non-faculty coach or a classified employee be a head coach? A. Yes. Provided they have successfully completed the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” and “First Aid, Health, & Safety for Coaches” courses OR the ASEP Coaches Education Course in a TSSAA-approved course combined with the TSSAA Online Coaches Training Session prior to May 15, 2013 and have been proper submitted to the TSSAA office.
  3. No Challenger I hear you. We have been watching the housing in the county as part of a decision process and I have noticed that the volume of available housing is reflective of the small population size and low turnover rate. I don't live in GC just looking as part of an analysis on decisions.
  4. Not a big choice in housing around the county for sure.
  5. You are correct, it has to be under the same principal
  6. The TSSAA listing is still on but they stay on for 60 days. The opening is no longer on the Grund County Schools employment page so maybe something is happening at least with the middle school age guys.
  7. A contributing factor with GCHS's weight room situation may be because of the TSSAA sanctions levied against them requiring 2 coaches to be in the weight room when students are present. Not an excuse but maybe a contributing factor give the coaching staff size or availability.
  8. Thanks for the encouragement. I will continue on here until I hear otherwise. We (MS) are getting back into the weight room next week so that will occupy more of my time in waiting. HS or MS, I believe that GC is worth investing time and energy into if we do it deliberately and purposefully.
  9. Well that may be a bad omen because I am an outsider but my dog in the race will always be the student athletes wherever I am.
  10. Jr. High HC position. They don't have a teaching spot right now so that is an obstacle to overcome IF I hear back.
  11. I've thrown my hat in for it so........
  12. They hired Coach Creutz last year for the MS program. Is he gone or are they looking for coaches to help the MS?
  13. I'm not sure what you mean by your statement about "The reason why teachers are paid so low, is because of the benefits that are included in being a teacher. Do you mean their benefits are so good that they are paid a lower salary? Can you give some examples?
  14. Cabell (2020), Olinger (2019), Boldin (2017-18), Malone (2016), Helton (2014-15), Barnhart (2011-13), Tierney (2009-10), Taylor (2008), Montgomery (2007), Condra (2005-06) and Green (2000-04) This supports your hypothesis that it may not matter. 11 HC's in 20 seasons.
  15. I believe the game scheduled for Friday is now to be played this evening.
  16. I've occasionally be called the horses mouth but more often the other end. Here is the guidance from TSSAA. Games cancelled due to COVID 19 shall be treated as follows: Football - TSSAA Regulations require teams to play a district/region schedule for playoff purposes. Regular season standings and the building of postseason brackets are done by TSSAA staff which creates the need for consistency on how cancellations are handled. Therefore, the following procedures are in place when a team is unable to play due to a COVID 19 outbreak or school system mandate. 1. Region Game- The game will go on record as a no contest for the school that is unable to play due to the outbreak or school system mandate. The school that could have played will receive a region win and overall win in the standings if the school can not replace the game with a new opponent on the same week it was originally scheduled to occur. If the school that could have played does replace the game with another opponent on the same week it was originally scheduled to occur, the school receives a Region win in the standings and the outcome of the game will be used in the overall standings. 2. Non Region Game- The game will go on record as a no contest for the school that is unable to play due to the outbreak or school system mandate. The school that could have played will receive a win in the overall standings if the game is not replaced. If the school that could play does replace the game with another opponent, the outcome of the game will be used in the overall standings.
  17. Wonder what kept Westview from shutting down their practice with reported cases as well. Allegedly as I understand
  18. That is the look of a man's dial up modem not connecting
  19. I was told today from a TSSAA Executive member that TSSAA will be putting out guideline on 15 July.
  20. You forgot to say in my opinion or IMO or IMHO. According to the Tennessee Covid -19 Unified Command data Maury county has had 379 confirmed cases, 5,474 cases that tested negative and 3 deaths where as Shelby County has had 12,176 confirmed cases, 145,016 cases that tested negative and 202 deaths. While certainly not at the bottom of the list it isn't the #1 most cases by a long shot.
  21. Interesting data. Of the deaths recorded of HS and college age people the virus accounts for just over 1% or in another light 99% of deaths for that age group have not been related to the Coronavirus. The percentage is even smaller for MS aged children. So the discussion point is if schools are opening on time (not all may be opening on time with in class services) and they are not requiring masks in the class rooms, is the TSSAA guideline for conducting athletic activity risk mitigation or risk avoidance?
  22. The story originally didn't clarify that the rebel soldier on the tassel was not from the school but: The journalist has updated the story to reflect the graduate who received the tassel bearing a likeness of a soldier told WATE that the high school did not provide the tassel, nor did every student receive this tassel from Jostens, the company selling graduation attire.
  23. Red, was the news story accurate see below link https://www.wate.com/news/maryville-red-rebels-petitions-circulating-to-change-keep-name/
  24. Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey said the Unified Command Group, which oversees the state’s ongoing coronavirus response efforts, identified Wilson and Hamblen counties as new COVID-19 hot spots because of a rise in virus cases and deaths. It's not the masks its the fact that the county has been designated as a hot spot and may impact Wilson County Athletics due to a risk avoidance mentality. Shelby County took it one step further and regressed back to Phase 1 business plan model. It is best to approach this as a macro issue and not just football. The players interact throughout the community. We saw 2 programs in Middle Tennessee last week report players and one coach testing positive. (I know what is the big deal it is the dead period) Yes they practice outdoor and play outdoor but they don't go to Wal-Mart outdoor or walk around in a bubble isolated from the population. As a fan I am encouraged by everyone's optimism, as a coach I am pessimistic that things will be back to normal when school starts.
  25. Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto has declared a State of Emergency for the county effective and is requiring all residents to wear a mask in public the death total from COVID-19 in the county increased from eight to 15 in the past two weeks. The first one of you chowder heads that say its ok its the dead period needs to self select and go play in traffic. https://www.wilsonpost.com/news/hutto-declares-state-of-emergency-for-wilson-county-masks-required/article_660c6838-b63b-11ea-a4fa-e3fa4e0b2bbd.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=user-share
