  1. I can’t understand what happened with Shad. In 1995 in his second season at Smyrna, we (Cleveland) had to go over there in the semifinals. They were very well prepared and outplayed us and frankly should have won. They would have won the state championship as they would’ve easily beat Haywood Co. the next week. That actually should have been Beech, as Haywood won in OT in the semifinals, but based on film Beech was the better team. Of course you know the rest, Smyrna moved up to 5A and eventually won back to back titles. He also had success at Blackman. Don’t know what went wrong at Billy Blount, as retired Chattanooga sportscaster Darrell Patterson used to call them.
  2. Wow, three story press box is impressive for high school. Sounds like Carrollton, Ga. They have a college style stadium along the line of Texas high school programs with a huge press box accessible only by elevator with a lady standing guard by it to make sure only authorized personnel gets in.
  3. They’ve seldom been relevant in football since long ago under the late Coach Pete Potter before he left for McCallie. Now basketball is a different story.
  4. I agree. I remember around 1990 Knoxville Central had a team ranked in the top 10 nationally. They moved their semifinal game vs. Lincoln Co. to Neyland Stadium and lost badly. A loss they blamed largely on not keeping the game on their campus.
  5. Talked to a coaching friend from your area the other day and he told me that the knowledgeable Maryville fans saw this dip in the road coming, as these last couple of Senior classes lost multiple games in middle school. Where they take it from here remains to be seen. He also said that Hunt is safe for now.
  6. Bob Williams passed away in Georgia this afternoon.
  7. I have to look up Siegel every time I spell it. Lol.
  8. Oh, okay. Thanks. Oakland and CG would be a heck of a game though.
  9. It’s difficult for Georgia and Tennessee teams to play because they change schedules on different years. BTW- Cedar Grove is a beast. Best top to bottom athletes in Georgia.
  10. I only saw Germantown play once. The 1994 5A state final against Riverdale , widely regarded as the most talented team to grace the Volunteer state. It was the only remotely close game Riverdale played all year.
  11. Most of these are regional rivals in high school ranks. I drew my example from the collage ranks where the feuds are larger and more intense. The one that holds the highest percentage of importance to the largest number of the fan base, IMO, is by far BAMA- AUBURN.
  12. Very much off topic, but on game nights I sit in my recliner and using two iPads a radio and a TV, I update scores from Georgia and East and Middle Tennessee all evening for the 2,400 followers on my Facebook page. I have many very good and reliable sources. I also share stories and post info in the off-season. I help the local high school team during the day on Fridays until they get on the bus or start dressing for a home game. If any of you would like access to my Facebook page call 706.808.0742. No texts please as this is a landline.
  13. If you have good contacts and sources, you can keep up with virtually everyone on game nights. I sit in my recliner on Friday nights. I have two iPads a radio and a TV tuned to a game. I have 2,400 followers on my Facebook page and I spend each Friday night updating scores from Georgia and East and Middle Tennessee. I help the local high school team during the day on Fridays, until they get on the bus, or start getting dressed for a home game. I have done this for several years. If you are interested in having access to my Facebook page call 706.808.0742. No texts please, as this is a landline.
  14. Naaa, not really. His real chance was two years earlier at Smyrna when the drive stalled inside the 10 in the final minute. He knew what was coming when he faced y’all.
  15. Good post. The only school doing anything lately in Memphis seems to be Whitehaven. And they have struggled since taking the Covid year off. In the old days, inner-city Memphis schools were completely irrelevant until Hillcrest came out of nowhere to win AAA in 1985 (I was there.)
  16. Don’t know Tennessee’s policy, but here in Georgia it’s up to the individual schools whether or not to charge the visiting team a fee to broadcast/live stream.
  17. I doubt it. I probably know you, but I was support staff, behind the scenes.
  18. Yes, sir. Truth. I was kinda taking a shot at the Oakland poster (whom I greatly respect) for kinda taking a shot at the Cleveland poster. Lol.
  19. Someone who figured out how to win 3 straight 30 years before someone else did. Lol.
  20. It was in the days before social media but one of my coaching mentors once told me on the subject of publicity “You don’t get any in high school unless you create it yourself.”
  21. Would this be the same Antioch that has won a total of 5 games the past 8 seasons? That hasn’t won a playoff game since 2007? That has 3 total playoff wins in school history? That has never been past the 2nd Round?
  22. I mainly bought Mr. Fair’s book in the 90’s and early 2000’s. You could be sure that 100% of the Memphis schools, downtown Chattanooga schools and 90 plus % of Metro Nashville schools would read “Survey Not Returned.”
  23. I tend to agree Mr. Barney. Getting back to the topic at hand, I believe this move makes Bradley the team to beat, at least until the semifinals.
  24. 90% of the lack of feedback in Mr. Fair’s book was from inner-city schools.
