  1. That is sound logic, except for the fact that they proved without a doubt to be better than Cornersville by demolishing them on the road. That alone prevents them from being ranked behind Cornersville.
  2. It would be a major upset if RBS wins at South Pitt to say the least. Clay County was up 35-0 in the first quarter, despite having to punt on the first possession of offense and having three punt return touchdowns called back for holding or a blocking in the back. I do think Jo Byrns will go to Whitwell or Sale Creek (which is a much better drive than going to Copper Basin) and win, earning a trip to Clay County or Gordonsville in Round 2. Clay County or Gordonsville could host three playoff games this year with a little assistance from the other in round 2. South Pitt will definitely have a hard road by being guaranteed to have to go through both Gordonsville and Clay County to get to the semifinals, even though it would be at home, where as the winner of Clay County/Gordonsville would have two very winnable games to start the playoffs.
  3. I believe it was their running back that was really good. They went 6-4, but fell in the first round to Midway unfortunately.
  4. I think it is certainly between Clay County, Gordonsville, and South Pittsburg at the moment. The winner of Clay County - Gordonsville should have a good path to the quarterfinals for sure.
  5. Clay County is dealing with some injuries, but who isn't at this point in the year. Clay County is every bit as stout on defense as last year, with a much improved offense to go with it. I don't think Gordonsville is much better than last year. What happens in week 11 depends on how Clay County comes to play. If Clay County plays like they did in the regular season last year, Gordonsville wins the game and the region. However, if Clay County plays like they did in the playoffs last year at Gordonsville, then Clay County will win easily and have two, possibly three home playoff games.
  6. The schedule is not very good for Gordonsville going into the last three weeks. A bye week, followed by Red Boiling Springs, is a recipe to come out very flat against Clay County in the Region Championship game.
  7. Here are the current standings: Region 3 South Pittsburg (2-0) Copper Basin (2-1) Whitwell (1-1) Sale Creek (1-1) Lookout Valley (0-1) Region 4 Clay County (2-0) Gordonsville (1-0) Jo Byrns (1-2) Red Boiling Springs (0-2) Assuming everything goes chalk (Clay County-Gordonsville is a toss up), that creates the following standings: Region 3 South Pittsburg (4-0) Whitwell (2-1) (COVID no-contest included) Sale Creek (2-2) (Head to Head over Copper Basin) Copper Basin (2-2) (COVID no-contest included) Lookout Valley (0-3) (COVID no-contest included) Region 4 Clay County/Gordonsville (3-0) Gordonsville/Clay County (2-1) Jo Byrns (1-2) Red Boiling Springs (0-3) That leaves a bracket like this: #4 Red Boiling Springs @ #1 South Pittsburg #3 Sale Creek @ #2 Gordonsville/Clay County #4 Copper Basin @ #1 Clay County/Gordonsville #3 Jo Byrns @ #2 Whitwell How does everyone see this bracket playing out and who travels to Coalfield on Black Friday?
  8. I want to hear from the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets on this one. Can Grundy County keep its streak intact after a good win over Whitwell? Tigers fans, please don't hijack this thread during your bye week. Clay County doesn't care about your game yet.
  9. Unless Trey Morrow is playing football, I don't believe Scott will have better athletes than Clay. You may have a bigger line, but the athletic advantage should lie in the hands of the Bulldogs.
  10. There's not really a good way to do it. In legitimate cases where the game should be canceled due to COVID, it is good to penalize teams for doing the safe thing. However, in several cases (not necessarily UHS vs TC), it is a weaker team using COVID to avoid playing a superior team and avoiding a sure loss. I guess encouraging schools to cancel when in question is the better way to avoid getting sued at the TSSAA.
  11. Dresden vs Fayetteville will be a great game in Round 2 of the playoffs.
  12. I wouldn't go that far. Clay County may have something to say about that on Oct 29. Regardless this will be a great game on the Creek Bank. I predict TC by 6,
  13. Who do you have in this A vs AAAA matchup? I say.Clay County 28-14.
  14. Who do you have in this A vs AAAA matchup? I say.Clay County 28-14.
  15. A Gordonsville win ensures the Oct 29 showdown is for the Region Championship (Even if one of Clay County/Gordonsville gets upset by RBS) and two (or possibly three) home playoff games.
  16. Interestingly enough, Clay County is ranked ahead of every remaining opponent, but according to the formula, Gordonsville would still beat Clay County since its at Gordonsville (two point difference for home field and the two are separated by less than two points)
  17. McKenzie vs Clay County in Chattanooga?
  18. They have a very athletic quarterback and running back. Very similar to Gordonsville in playing style. They don't make many mistakes either. However, I don't believe their supporting cast is as good as Gordonsville, plus making the long trip down to South Side of Smith County will not do them any favors. Gordonsville 27 Jo Byrns 8
  19. I just don't see Cornersville scoring 22 points. Clay held them to 12 (yet it somehow still ranked behind Cornersville in the AP) and one of those scores was a kickoff return giving them first and goal. Cornersville just doesn't have the passing necessary to keep the box from being loaded all night.
  20. I hope all the kids make it through with few symptoms during the COVID outbreak that will occur that week at South Pitt.
  21. That's why I say this poll and a dollar will buy you a Sweet Tea at McDonald's. Basically worthless.
  22. Clay is a much different team since the addition of the senior basketball players. Probably one of the most dangerous offensive teams to come through in years now having two lanky wideouts in addition to the speedsters. Losing the QB has hurt their defense though as he is a stellar linebacker.
  23. Should be a dandy of a game, but doubt it will top last year's contest for excitement.
  24. Should make for a good rematch in round 2 of the playoffs if things go as projected, except in Celina.
