  1. Ok Einstein, name 1 player for Maryville that has made a difference to this years Maryville team, that was not on the team last year and transferred in? They have a d-lineman whose family moved from California and a kicker who moved from Idaho, but no players have moved in from another TN high school. Alcoa on the other hand, has at least 3 starting seniors that played for another high school team last year. Bradley has 2 extremely impactful senior transfers this season. Bearden has a slew of Knox Co transfers but the only Senior I know about didn't contribute much due to injuries.
  2. Two different teams playing for the rematch. BC has a lot of weapons on both sides of ball and could mix it up against Maryville. QB and RB #2 gutted Rebels defense with 246 yds rushing in last game, along with 210 yds passing. BC QB has a cannon but seems alot of their yards passing come from screens and short passes, making teams tackle them in open space which is tough to do. BC is different this time around as it looks like the lines have improved and their offensive playbook is much larger than Sep 1st. Maryville has a much different team, with recent adjustments to defensive scheme, adding a d-lineman in place of a LB and primarily running a 4 man front. QB5 has made a difference by making plays. O line has improved dramatically since the previous matchup-a change at LG along with having Right Tackle back, who is committed to Liberty, who did not play in the BC or West game. RB7 didn't play earlier in the year and I think he can make a difference. RB1 played well against BC last time and expect to see them utilize both backs. RB1 is close to 1,000 yds on season and RB7 is heading to Air Force, so you've got to respect both. Totally fine with Maryville being the underdawgs and they should be. BC has a lot of talent and coached well. They are having a fantastic season and I love the fan support that Bradley Central- great game atmosphere. If the players and coaches that board the 3 buses on Cedar St friday, believe they can win, they can do it. 200 yards- if Maryville can hit that number rushing, they will win. And they can do that if the O-line plays a solid game and average 5 yards per carry.
  3. 100% May be a stretch in my opinion. Appeared from my pov he is not there yet but i think he can be in a couple weeks. Agree, need to not rush it. Love having him back in pads but he's been leading on sidelines ever since his injury. Need Ladue 100% for 2nd round vs either Bradley or Bearden. And even then, I’d put 1 and 7 in the backfield, run a two back set. RB1 was a dawg last night- had 150y offense and 2 td's last night. Rebels playing best two games of year the last two weeks. Alot of momentum, peaking at right time. Strong performances in last two games from guys who will be coming back next year-QB5, RB1, LB24. Future is bright for Rebels. Disappointed in Alcoa fans, looking for excuses instead of just admitting they got outcoached and outplayed. Rebels wanted it more. I pull for Alcoa in the playoffs, always have because Blount Co and respect for program. Alcoa fans on here now make me want to pull against the program, pitiful.
  4. Rebels 45 Mountaineers 2 Bad snap deep in Rebel territory which results in a safety for Heritage.
  5. Don't believe this in the slightest. I suppose your reasoning of this rumor is so they have to forfeit 2 games in region? And even if someone files an official complaint, I do not see TSSAA doing a darn thing about it. Pretty sure TSSAA won't drop what they are doing and immediately investigate this. It will received and reviewed sometime in the next couple months.
  6. Be nice to have a summary since most cannot read it due to subscription...
  7. Rule it a tie for both teams or play the game tomorrow. No contest- give me a break, that is every kid gets a trophy crap. I would have to think G-ville would have been pushing to finish the game or find a way to play this weekend,
  8. Should be interesting to see if West's 2-3 ballers can make plays. #2 and #44 are for real, very good players. Verdict still out on #1. Last years Rebels were one of the best in the entire state (public schools), along with Oakland and Alcoa. Excellent coaching staff and program at West. Not many believe Maryville is good enough to win, including some of their own fan base. But, doesn't matter as long as the ones wearing black helmets tonight, believe it. Game is won up front tonight, West will need big plays to win. Maryville will need to control the line of scrimmage and rush it 30-35 times in order to win.
  9. Da Bears 42 WV 12 Even despite Bears fan base looking towards semis & Oakland
  10. Agree, won't see a win against Bearden but will win big against Fulton as the Falcons are competing for worst team in K-town. What happened to all the hype around the superstar gunslinger qb transfer from Jeff Co?
  11. Bad year to make the comparison. Rebels went 5-5 in 1996, but they did beat Alcoa 40-12, hehehehe
  12. Since everyone believe the Rebels are a has been and will barely make the playoffs- and now questions concerning them not being in a passing league- lets clear some things up. They scrimmaged Anderson Co and Greenville in 7v7 before dead period. And since everyone wants to go back to the good ole days of a state championship, lets look at the 2019 offensive stats. Averages over the 15 games that year, resulting in a 15-0 record Avg rushing attempts/yards per game- 38 for 244 yrds (70%) Avg pass attempts/completions - 11 for 16 (30%) for 176 yds Season scoring avg of 40 points per game SO ARGUE THIS- DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS Defense- Avg Total yards given up and points scored on 2019- 159 avg per game 8 2020- 242 avg per game 11 2021- 222 avg per game 13 2022 - 245 avg per game 17 SO DO YOU THINK MARYVILLE IS IN THE TOILET BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ALL IN ON 7 ON 7 PASSING LEAGUES? I think Maryville could care less about passing leagues. Hold teams to under 200 yards and less than 10 points and you win ball games, period... 0 Questions on offense, my prediction, offense will be more productive in 2023. Gage is a stud but wait and see, other players will produce and become household names. Offense line is bigger and faster this year than last. ***Thank you for various media outlets for providing historical stats
  13. Barney Go back and watch the 2018 and 2020 Maryville v Oakland. Both were complete beat downs. This past years semifinal matchup was at least closer despite the fact that '18 and '20 were still the "glory days", much more talent than last years team. Bradley will be much more talented and Bearden as well, but that hasn't EVER stopped Maryville. For 20+ years, Maryville on paper typically has far fewer future-college players but somehow, they always manage to win a majority of their games with teams having alot more D1 players. They do this by coaching and getting kids to buy into a team concept. I think Maryville excels when the nah-sayers rule them out. I think it will take until week 3 before you see what Maryville can or can't do. And Maryville will be underdogs in that game based on Bradley loading up on talent in the off-season. Correct me if I am wrong, but Bradley will have at least 5-D1 commits that include the states top player. Heritage will be a closer game than typical because Heritage has gotten better, not because Maryville is falling apart. Central, week 2, will not give Maryville much of a game.
  14. Agree, a lot of people writing Maryville off and that's fine. Maryville performs pretty good being the underdog. Boo Carter is a fantastic player, will see if adding him will result in winning games. Still need a QB to get him the ball and a line to block. Bradley had a lot on the line when they faced Maryville last year and they were gutted by the Rebels. Let's also see how the team chemistry is when you bring in a superstar. It's a shame that a kid can play sports for 3 different schools in 9 months. TSSAA has got to revisit this.
  15. That is BS if that takes place. Kid plays for 3 high schools in 12 month period. TSSAA can't let this happen, hoping from school to school until he gets what? Money is the only answer I come up with
  16. Boo Carter transferred in the winter to Brainerd and now again? His twitter is still Brainerd. But check out his twitter, 5 star, #1 Athlete in TN, ESPN Top 300. Tells me Boo Carter is out for 1 person- and that's him. Don't get me wrong, he is a player and legit with all the accolades he has, but why transfer? Not sure winning a TEAM state championship is high on his list. But if it is, then props to him. TSSAA needs to dig in their heels on this- Kid playing for 3 teams in less than 12 months, doesn't seem right. And if this happens and they do nothing, open the gates boys, transfer every year in high school. Form mega teams, just like the current NCAA FBS. Its BS, it's gonna ruin high school football for the above average high school student athlete.
  17. He can do that and sit on the bench. Bearden current secondary is way better than anything Central would bring over.
  18. Maryville, on the road (maybe unless County can't pay for a field), wins by 28. Mark it down...
  19. Ridiculous Barney. QB question mark is irrelevant on the season. Last year they took a transfer and tired to fit him into the offense ( which is always a mobile QB, and no offense but he was not) and they made it to THE 6A SEMIS! No doubt alot to fill on defense but the system will prevail, JV kids on Def will step up and be good. Only, repeat only question mark is the D-line. Offense will be better in '23 than last year. Alot more Juniors that will contribute than anyone has ever heard of. Senior class is not strong but Junior class has alot of talented kids. Very few sophmores will be called on- only 1 O-line and maybe 1 d-line, no skill players in Soph class will contribute. And no Freshman qb's
  20. Finally, someone with some actual good points makes a comment on this thread, and appears he's an Oakland fan! Thank you MidTenn for your valued comments as some Murvl fans think the sky is falling after losing in semis to a very talented and well coached Oakland team. @Barney, no question the defense for Murvl will be the big question mark. Losing the entire DL, a very good MLB and a good CB. The other corner started every game as a Junior, is the sole returning starter. But, the ‘22 defense had its fair share of 1st year starters including both safeties (both never got valuable minutes at varsity prior to SR year), JR CB and two outside linebackers that were seniors. The “Will” backer started a game or two his junior year but that was it. The Oakland offense exposed the lack of talent at certain positions. But, if you recall, the last 2 games at Oakland wer even more lopsided (’18 &’20) and both of those Maryville teams were supposed to have a lot more talent. **2018 was 38-0 and 2020 was 49-7 Oakland and FWIW, GQ last game, was a loss at Oakland 23-7. Barney, seriously questioning why GQ left and you think it was because the talent was drying up? Wow, he is now HC at a D1 University and you think that was his reason to leave- thats absurd, an opportunity presented itself and he took and look at him now. Would ask those on this thread, maybe if the talent is less than previous years, its time for a change in philosophy and have your best, most talented kids play offense and defense? Maryville has had a mindset to avoid players going both ways which goes back to Hammontree’s 1st season, 1993. In recent years, you think T Hodge or I Cobb would have made good linebackers? Or how about Vaughn or Ladue playing on defense last year or Manaker playing a H back/Tight End? There have been a few that have went both ways the last few years but not many. Last comment, Rebel football in numbers is high. The middle school had 65- 70 kids last year (only had 55 Jersey’s), this year they are not taking 6th graders and they had 50 out for spring practice which were only 7th and 8th graders. I do not see much correlation between numbers in middle school vs success in high school.
