  1. Much better game than I was expecting. Congrats to D-B for a great effort tonight- closest quarterfinal game Maryville has had in a while. D-B had a great game plan on offense- just didn’t have the defense to slow down Maryville at all. Only stop they got all night was due to a bad Rebel shotgun snap. Congats to Maryville on another trip to the semifinals. Maryville- Oakland has become a great rivalry and it should be another good one.
  2. Maryville is scoring at will. D- B defense has some serious issues.
  3. That was an impressive win by D-B at Farragut last night. I agree with Waco that D-B would be the overwhelming underdog if they play Maryville in playoffs. I don’t think anybody on here is disrespecting Maryville by thinking that D-B has a small chance against them. I think people are just hoping for a competitive game for once if they play.
  4. Derek is an outstanding coach and a fine young man. When he coaches a little longer, he is a virtually certain bet to pass GQ on the national winning percentage list. Let this sink in- MHS will soon have the two greatest coaches in high school football history in terms of winning percentage.
  5. It is very easy to second guess Rankin’s decision to go for it after the game is over when it didn’t work out. In his defense, there was no way 9 points was going to win the game.......this is 21st century football where you can’t sit on a 9-0 lead, especially against Maryvillle. Like he said in paper, if they aren’t good enough to make a 4th and 1, they didn’t deserve to win the game.
  6. Congrats to Maryville- total domination in second half. Great effort by Alcoa as well- especially on defense. They just don’t have enough offensive firepower to beat Maryvillle, imo. Second year in a row that Maryvillle defense totally locked them down and Rebel offense did just enough to get the W. Game unfolded pretty close to what I expected although i picked a 21-10 final for Rebels.
  7. So sorry to hear this. I never had the privilege of meeting KWC but always enjoyed reading his posts about Whitehaven and HS sports in general. You could tell he was a quality person just from reading the tone of his posts- (yours too, Galilee, BTW). Prayers for KWC’s friends and family in Memphis from Blount County.

  9. I just turned the game on and it is 0-0, what did Blaze do?
  10. Maryville looks very talented and unstoppable. With the possible exception of Alcoa, it will be a miracle if anyone on their schedule holds them under 35 points in a game all year. I thought WB competed very well- they were just totally overmatched athletically.
  11. Correct. Maryville is at a completely different level in 6A football than everyone else in ET. Better coaching + better talent= total domination. Offseason talk of challengers to Maryville is always amusing.
  12. I think this is a pretty open tourney. I could be wrong but I don’t think there is one dominant team that is a clear favorite. Whitehaven vs. Cleveland is a blockbuster game to start the tournament.
  13. Great HS tournament game tonight. Very impressed with D-B’s performance. Led for the majority of the game and were still in it until Davis made two free throws to extend lead to 4 with less than 20 seconds left. IMO, D-B just wore down at the end against a much older and more physical team after Releford fouled out with about 2 minutes left. Poore is a very good coach and D-B basketball is definitely on the rise again, IMO. In the end , MHS had to dig very deep to get the W tonight. Crowd got into it in the 4th quarter and made this a real home court advantage. Winning and advancing is all that matters at this point in the season. Congrats to MHS for making the state tourney and congrats to Coach Eldridge for making the state tourney for the 4th time since he has been at Maryville.
  14. 1AAA Tourney Results 1) Science Hill 2) Dobyns Bennett 3) David Crockett 4) Bristol
  15. Congrats to Joe Anderson- what an amazing accomplishment. IMO, MHS has a great shot to make it to the state tourney this year so he could conceivably add many more points to the total. Also good to see Lee Humphrey’s name back in the news because of Joe’s accomplishment and to remember what he did in his hoops career.
  16. I feel like I say this every year but this is one of Eldridge’s best shooting teams. Wood was terrific for Cleveland tonight and he had some help- Schramm had a great 4th quarter, too.
  17. Great competitive high school game tonight plus great tourney preparation for both teams. Congrats to Cleveland- it is very difficult for opposing teams to win on the hardwood at Maryville but you guys got it done.
  18. I totally agree with you on running with Cleveland- it’s not advisable. If it was a post season win or go home scenario, I think Maryville would play at a much slower tempo. Coach Eldridge’s teams always seem to have the ability to dictate the tempo of the game depending on the opposition. However, since it is not a win or go home scenario and the game is being played on Maryville’s home court, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Maryville play much faster than they did at Cleveland.
  19. Cleveland is very good but they are due for a loss. Maryville only lost to them by one or two points without football players at Cleveland in December. It was a low scoring game as I recall- Maryville played at a much slower tempo down there than they have been playing lately. Anxious to see if it is an up tempo game at MHS. Point guard matchup of Joe Anderson ( Furman) vs Jacobi Wood (Belmont) is as good as it gets this year in ET.
  20. Congrats to Maryville on a great game and great season. I actually thought last night was going to be a competitive game but boy was I wrong. Maryville staff totally outcoached Ravenwood staff and MHS players played at a completely different intensity level than Ravenwood’s players. It was obvious early in the game that Maryville wanted it way more than Ravenwood did. MHS was clearly the superior team.
  21. Exactly right Barn- you can’t move the ball against a team like Oakland without D1 caliber athletes like Tee. Good plan by Maryville to stay pretty conservative and let Hodge and Chambers carry the ball for the most part. It’s almost like Maryville out-Oaklanded Oakland tonight with great defense and ball control offense.
  22. I watched part of Ravenwood’s game last night online and was very impressed. They are huge upfront, have a good QB, and appear to be very well coached. There are four really good teams left in 6A- it is not just Oakland and Maryville.
  23. They were last year for sure- we shall find out about this year starting next week.
