  1. Bearden has almost completely new starters on both offense and defense vs. last year. Many sophmores and juniors as first time starters. Not near as many "atheletes" as Maryville. Not near the size as Maryville at line of scrimmage. At most they only have one player from east Knox county; or north Knox county; or south Knox county. They do not have any players from Blount county or any other surrounding county that I'm aware. They are just a community team that will be fortunate to even score on Maryville. However, they are the last Knox county team to have beaten Maryville. Several of their current coaches played on that Bearden team. That is why they still play the game instead of just writing down a score before hand.
  2. Catholic is ALL about recruiting in order to have a good team. Alcoa has a good base with some recruiting thrown in. That means it is easier to have a good team at Alcoa vs Catholic.
  3. Oh, the problems "recruited football" teams can cause. "Community" teams seldom have sligbility problems --- theirs is usually over acedemics.
  4. Game is at William Blount. This may make W/B the favorite. At this point, it looks like a toss up.
  5. How true, how true. The term "in history" was used and if it is meant that "6A" is the top tier, then I would include Knoxville High School!
  6. If I was a betting person, I'd go with the dogs.
  7. Bearden has lost twice this year. Once to Knox West (in the same district) the first time they played and has beaten them twice since -- both close games. Bearden's second loss was to Oak Hill Academy of Virginia -- their travel squad with all of the 1A signees of various schools, such as Duke.
  8. All the resposes are part of the process. The Div. 1A schools have "areas" of recruiting responsibility for the assistant coaches that go on the road. In each area, these coaches stop by at least once a year at the larger high schools ( and at the small ones if there is word about a particular student/athlete). They want to know about the kids who might be able to play college ball. The info they want includes such as: grades; desire to play college ball; attitude (are they about team or self?); dependability and determination during the whole year; response to adversity; what type of character does he show; and. oh, did I mention grades as well as ACT and/or SAT scores? High school coaches do not have the time to make a highlight film for every one of their players. The parents should do this and, like mentioned elswhere, send out to as many colleges as they can. If a young man is interesting to a recruiting coach, that coach will want game film from the high school. The reason for game film is to evaluate the young man thru a complete game: did he display hustle thru out; did he display good decisions when he was tired; did he display good conditioning; did he show good attitude; -------- and on and on with such things thru a complete game. There is no simple way for the vast majority of high school players to get the opportunity to play college football. It takes a lot of effort on the young man's part as well as the parents' part. Another true part is many of the high school players who could physically play college ball are not willing to commit the time and effort it takes to play in college --- and there is nothing wrong with that as not everyone needs to play college ball.
  9. There is a solution ---- consolidate all the school systems in Blount County to one. A La Knox County. It is very difficult to get a transfer from one high school zone to another within the Knox County System. There are several good athletes in Knox County that are spread among at least 13 public high schools and 4 private high schools. Helps make it a very tough chore to have a state champion from Knox County.
  10. You know not of which you speak! Out of 7 Bearden kick-offs, at least 5 were the short, high and to the side type. This has been the type of the vast majotiry of their kick-offs this year. There is a simple reason for it. Their kicker can not kick-off into the end zone very often AND they do not cover kick-offs well. SO, as any smart coaching staff would do, they kick-off the best way that they can cover and prevent a TD return. Case in point would be Heritage's opening kick-off ---- which was returned for a TD.
  11. Well, I see you continue your "Sour Grapes Crusade". You must be one spoiled brat! I an comfident you do not personally know all of the coaching staffs in East Tennessee, let alone the entire staff.
  12. There really is not a "best" way to fill the play-off brackets, especially with the current set-up of several divisions within the same district. They were trying to make it a "better" way than last year. Having said that, I believe more energy is being spent on the bottom teams than the top teams in this discussion. In other words, how many times has a "bubble" team won a state football chapionship? If you're lucky enough to get in the playoffs --- thank your lucky stars and do the best you can.
  13. Coaching staff is not allowed to coach or participate. Some teams had parents in charge, poaaibly all teams -- I'm not sure.
  14. When did the teams you mentioned move to East Tennessee? READ the first line of his message.
  15. All play-off games begin @ 7:00 p.m. of the time zone the game is in.
  16. Aug. 8 ---- O R & Bearden @ Tenn Tech for 4-way with Cookville & Blackmon. They use a very interesting format that allows a lot of work to be done on all phases of the game. Usually 2 scrimmages simultaneously. Aug 14 --- Bearden @ Mo East Aug 15 --- Jamboree @ Bearden
  17. Nope. Practice in pads starts Monday week. There will be 1 or 2 scrimages but don't know the dates as of yet.
  18. Thursday, 7/17/08, @ 6:00 p.m. against CAK.
  19. If you were older than 1st or 2nd grade you would know!!! Subject: Subject: Going to the Dentist
  20. From what I've seen so far ---- the Harb kid @ CAK. He is a sleeper --- I think only his second year playing. Has a cannon of an arm & is learning the different touches needed for the different routes.
