  1. Dresden will move to 13A next year with Gleason..I expect that they will not gather enough votes from the old guard of 13A to allow them to host a tournament., just my thoughts.
  2. Surely you know better. The 10 coaches in 14A do not have ANYTHING to do with where the region is held in years that their district does not host. It is rotated between district 13 and 14. When it is district 13's turn, their coaches vote, with approval of the TSSAA, where the region is held. Actually the TSSAA can deny it being held at a site if the school chosen by that district's coaches does not have a minimum number of seating - I don't know that number. Next year will be 14A turn, which means probably Trenton.
  3. Was this taken out of context or sarcasm?
  4. Is this sarcasm? Sarcasm here too? Sarcasm calling out another teen?
  5. You are a fan of Peabody? Give us your credentials for your suggestions on the changes that you proposed? Do you have kids that play? How would you feel if someone criticized your son on a public message board? Why don't you let the Peabody staff know who you are, maybe they could get your input on other areas?
  6. Guess you don't know the big guy very well. He doesn't run - from anyone over anything.
  7. Congrats to Bradford and Coach Eddings on a fine season. Good record and some big wins in a tough district.
  8. Coach of the Year: 1)Sisco - you cant go undefeated in district play and not receive this. if the players could win with out him then he didnt screw it up. He has done a fantastic job. The kids play a fast, furious, style and are relentless rebounders. Very unselfish. If you do the dirty work you get to shoot it. I love it. 2) Eddings- loss at Halls may hurt but he got the most out of a good shooting team with not much help. Tate and Holloman are both better than given credit for - they are 4 year starters. Reynolds played on the high school team as an 8th grader. He has done a fantastic job and congratulations on a very good regular season. Good luck in the tourny and your second round match with UC. 3) Frazier - his team-which had the farthest to go- improved dramatically to me. He has done a very good job. Wins and losses are not the only measuring stick to use. They seemed to be better every time i saw them. 4) whitby - talent but still very solid. beat Humboldt and didnt lose to anyone unexpected. played uc close 2 times 5) Boykin - only 4 district losses, split with LC. taming the talent 6)Dilday - a very competitive team that could have been in the 4-5 game. fell apart at end of peabody game 7) Angelos - Greenfield, allen-peabody, jarrett - halls, lawrence - gleason: jury still out. Players of the year: Geanes, Sain, Levister, Patrick, Holloman/Tate, and any 10 of Union City players
  9. Congrats on the win. Keep it up. Any info on when Coach garner comes back. I understand it is nothing serious, hoping not.
  10. Good to talk about other teams in the district 1)UC - standard/style of play is what it is supposed to be. Well coached because the players are very unselfish, play hard. They don't do anything complicated - constant pressure and relentless rebounding. 2)LC - maybe best starting 5 and the best player - geanes. depth vs the other big 2 may prevent moving on 3) humboldt - size is tremendous for A ball. Have great moments and some lulls that will keep you at home. Maybe potentially better than the other 2 others: 4)Bradford - well coached and lots of experienced. 2 or 3 of those guys have been starting as freshmen and another played as an 8th grader. Coach Eddings has been a great addition. they can really shoot it Where has that been? 5) Dresden / Peabody - neither team can guard anyone but are capable of scoring. Dresden starting 5 is good and they seem well coached. Peabody has some issues - injuries, questionable coaching, players either quitting or being kicked off. Can score at times but a 6th place means out of it.
  11. Peabody 28 Humboldt 20 Peabody will pound it with 3-4 backs who can break it. Humboldt has the best player. I don't think either of the defenses will look very good. Playoff berth to the winner unless USJ upsets someone or the winner of this one falls down the road. Good luck to both teams on a healthy outcome. Hope that everyone acts the way you are supposed to. There will be lots of innocent fans there, including young folks who are there to cheer for their school.
  12. Their beautiful complex is located in the city park which is behind the high school. Depending what direction you are coming from follow the road beside the high school and you will see the YMCA. It is behind that with several entrances into the park off of hwy 104.
  13. I do not think there was a malicious intent. And just for the record, I have not criticized the coaching at OCHS, only the administration and the way the past 4 (Whitby, Hoffman, Greer, Davis) have been left out to dry by the administration, fans, and school board; even the current coach was originally undermined. I DO maintain the handling of Coach Davis and Coach Greer was handled with out class, dignity, or professionalism and was dirty. No I wasn't there and my "opinion" is that the intent of the drills was not to hurt anyone. But surely you are even amazed at the continuous zoo that is going on there and has been going on the past 5 years or more.
  14. I know what the situation is. I am waiting on the Rebel fans who started and commented on this thread to bring their excuses before I respond or elaborate.
  15. My position, or deposition, is nothing will probably come of it; those kool-aid drinkers will say this was just another step in the right direction..turning the corner..
  16. congratulations to all those who sacrifice for Carroll Academy. Coach Hatch and others have set an example that many our regular programs should have. No it is not about the wins/losses. The best part has to be the parent co-operation. Think how better a coaching situation would be without having to deal with influential parents (it is getting ridiculous by the way) Good luck on the movie. I can't wait to read the book and see some of the ways this school was treated by other programs. I know how one "Christian" school treated the girls program a few years ago...rolling the ball down the court so the clock wouldn't run to score again - 100th point- when CA only had about 13..classy..
  17. Well well well. Guess a wrong turn was taken rounding that corner. Maybe the new sport of wrestling will work out a little better. Guess the latest incident has shown the program has taken a "new" direction. It simply amazes me to see this system at work. I am looking forward to the excuses for this one. Sad.
  18. Yes congratulations and best of luck the rest of the season. But turning it around? Do you realize this: 1999 team advanced to Sectional tournament (sisco) 2000 team won the district championship and made it to the state tournament and would have probably been in the finals against South Fulton if they could have made ANY shot. (johnson) 2001 team won the district championship (johnson) He came in 2002- I didn't realize that they were so down.
  19. I didnt say he didnt want it. I said he didnt ask for it. A BIG difference.
  20. Dirty - out of the blue Coach Davis is told he is no longer part of the program..Dirty - administration, that hires and fires at every other school system, had no knowledge of what was going on...Dirty - never, not once, any indication given to Coach Davis that there were problems....Dirty - a man who took over a program left in turmoil by interfering parents and no backbone by administration, then replaced by someone who didn't ask for the job, is told he is no longer needed or wanted in the program despite spending all spring, summer, and fall preparing a team, defending the new coach, defending the kids, etc...Not once did I ever him complain, criticize, or talk bad about anyone in the program. Never. Dirty - the same program that when parents balked at him getting rid of a couple of upperclassmen, the same problems the previous coaches inherited, he resigned - just as the previous 3 coaches did. Only this time the administration had finally been backed into a corner and begged him back. They had no other choice. Probably not enough reasons for someone with blinders on but to the rest of West Tennessee it is a joke. I guess those are some of the reasons I thought were reasons for calling it dirty. I know of other reasons, but to protect those involved and due to legal proceedings pending, I will not comment. Humiliating losses? the big complaint last few years was the close losses. Obion talent has been down, way down, because they quit recruiting those mysterious transfers from Kentucky, Illinois, Martin, UC....oh they beat UC 2 years in a row, and the middle school programs were void of talent. Look who they beat outside of their little conference - 3,4,5,6 years ago. If you didnt see the talent drop-off, everyone else did. If you have ever prepared a team to compete, not a YMCA or PAL league team, but one that has to compete against quality programs, you can't win the Kentucky Derby with a mule and you can't make chicken salad out of chicken ....95% of games are won with the team with the best players. Coaches get way too much credit for wins, and way too much blame for losses. Quit living on the 1986 team, a great one. I was there at Vandy the night they won it - but that was 20 years ago. If you are questioning Milan's talent, look at where they have been the past 10 years and now. 2 - 14 last time I looked. I saw them play and however you look at it, they are not very talented - but as i said - well - coached. But take that win turning the corner. No cherry there. taking away their accomplishments? The teams they have defeated have probably less than 10 wins combined. I could be wrong on the exact number but it is very close. Better, I agree, but the question was have they turned the corner? Maybe. I said congratulations and good luck. Just pointing out that you are probably better than you were but not as good as some are hoping. Sure doesn't hurt to win some on the way to recovery. Cynical would probably be a better term than sarcastic. As I get older it fits a little better. Still wishing good luck to Obion.
  21. Well Milan is way down from where they have been but still well coached. Probably one of the few teams Obion can out-talent. I know it is nice to win some games, congratulations and hope it continues. None of these teams that Obion is beating are very talented, which shouldnt take away from the accomplishment. I still think the way things went down with Coach Davis and Coach Greer were DIRTY. It reflects on the coach, school, administration. Hope your new coach is happy. Gonna be even harder the next time there is an opening, in case you didnt know, there were not many candidates for the job but looks like Obion has a good one. Best of luck and keep "turning the corner"
