  1. My fear is when our current representatives in Nashville reboot the voucher legislation this Spring, we will see this problem rise to a new level. Something to think about when you contact your representatives and senators. Urge them to vote against vouchers. It only failed last year because they tried to make it too widespread and Haslem wanted to slow walk it. Had this passed last year, you might have seen Grace welcome the two players from Rockwood with your tax dollars footing the bill. These schools are not held to the No Child Left Behind requirements and testing. Therefore, they shouldn't be allowed to receive state funding. I hope this doesn't happen, but it is hard to imagine next fall without this occurrence.
  2. That's a shame. I happen to know the Indians crave your approval slinger. Maybe we will earn it someday.
  3. Does this mean that if my child has D-I capabilities, you could just slap me on the back of a garbage truck? I mean....I'm sure that would never happen or anything. My child having D-I capabilities I mean.
  4. Coalfield 3 penalties for 14 yds Oneida 5 penalties for 59 yds (3 15 yarders in the 3rd quarter 2 personal fouls and one pass interference)
  5. There are few single A bands that come to mind. Throughout the season most schools that I see do not even produce a halftime show. I follow Oneida and they do a good job especially considering that there has been so much turnover at the director's position. However, Harriman deserves mention as their band puts on a great show year in and year out. Hopefully, some of the smaller schools in the area will be able to strengthen their programs in the coming years.
  6. These games will not be on Oneida radio WBNT.
  7. Bad Post.....anyone watching the game knows that the referees had zero impact either way. The Lady Buffaloes post game and the lack of aggressiveness from the Lady Indians doomed them in the decisive 3rd quarter. Impressive win for the Range. Lady Indians showed something in the 1st half. They will just have to find a way to bring that intensity for 4 quarters. With Powell and Loudon looming there is no time to rest or blame refs. The 1st half Lady Indians looked like they could play with any single A team at this point. As an Oneida fan the kind words about our fans, gym, and Nick Manis (the National Anthem singer) are much appreciated. Good luck to Coach Rogers and his ladies....we'll see you Jan. 30th at your place. I hope we can bring 4 quarters there with us.
  8. Harriman - Shawn Williams, Julian Goins Rockwood - Billy Moffitt, Michael Gilmore Wartburg - Jeremy and D.J. Shannon, Jason Melton Cosby - Dexter Manning, Todd Jenkins, Kelvin Rone, MVP Timmy Blakely
  9. Which as I understand it is why the request was made to be on the home bench.
  10. This was addressed at the region meeting where it was "agreed" that Oneida would sit on the home bench. However, the Cosby coach changed his mind and called Oneida Monday morning to request that his team be allowed to wear the home unis and sit on the home bench. So, the "bad taste" comment would change now that you are more informed, correct ? On the second point, I recommend the Hampton Inn. We stayed there last year and many times before.
  11. I believe it goes to record vs. 3rd place team, in this case Coalfield. OS is 2-0....Oneida is 1-1. It would take losses to both Oakdale and Sunbright for OS to fall to 2nd.
  12. C Range should be well rested. They cancelled the road trip to Oneida tonight due to "flu outbreak." The Oneida game is rescheduled for Sat. 1:00 PM.
  13. ptgaurd12....I enjoy your weekly informed and unbiased "take" on 1A. Just a note on Oneida, they are playing in the TDS Telecom Tournament at Halls (Knox). They defeated Gibbs 85-58 this morning and will play the winner of Bradford vs. Powell tomorrow at 4:00 PM. Not sure where the incorrect schedule listing came your way, but they will have a game Wed. also. Again, nice job with the poll.
  14. The "chill" is back and in "kilter"........
  15. 0-0 for 3 quarters.....OHS scores on a 57 yd. TD run by Lewallen with 10:19 to go. WHS goes the length 3 yd. TD run by QB Frazier.....key play - 50 yd. Pass.......Oneida fumbles w/3 min left at WHS 39.........WHS mixes pass+run for 2nd score.....Frazier run.......go for 2 and fail........Both teams played well and very hard.
  16. AERoadrunners......I am an Oneida fan, but was at the game you are talking about. It was a great contest. Nice to see the respect for the Scott High fans and I assure you that win or lose they are good people.
  17. District 4A Coach of the Year was Jeff Allen of Rockwood. They finished 4th in the district. He was the most deserving. Coach of the Year is about doing the best you can with what you've got. He maximized his talent level. Perhaps 4AA's Coach of the Year did the same.

    CAK vs. Oneida

Ro isn't tootin' his own horn, although he should after tonight. The anonymus blocked FG and OT INT were both his. Great job to all the Indians and good luck next week.
  19. Oneida led at one point 34-8. The Indians had too many turnovers in this one. At least 3 fumbles lost and 1 INT. That many mishaps next week would be deadly. Hopefully, it was first game jitters. If not, 3 in a row is a strong possibility.
  20. Oneida 34 McCreary Co., KY 20
  21. I have attended as a broadcaster and as a fan. I have to add to the kind words for Mr. Gillespie. Since he has been in charge of the media work, things have been much more pleasant. Previously, you felt as though there was always a suspicious tone to the process. Kind of a power trip for some. It is totally different with Matt. He is pleasant and helpful in every way, in my experience. The other staff members may seem a bit rough, but as a previous poster said, "I wouldn't want their job.......what do you think they are paid......if there was a security lapse everyone would be outraged that they were not more strict........" These were, in my opinion, all great points. I also see the point of a fan that wants to "soak up the moments following a championship." Surely, a happy medium of security and "moment" can be found. I hope so. However, there is no way to satisfy everyone. No black and white on this one. Just my two cents.
  22. I have read these threads as they were posted about the "incident." I was not present. Most of the people posting their opinions on it weren't there either. I have heard both sides of the story. I wish it hadn't happened, but it did. I hate to bump this thread again, but one thing has yet to be mentioned. It seems the players and coaches are taking a beating for everything from the clothes they wear, their attitudes, and their defense. The clothes have been explained well. The play on the court is much improved. The attitudes have been reeled in compared to a year ago. My question is why have the parents gotten a free pass. Oneida in the 90's was a machine because kids played their role. They cared about wins first and foremost. Parents always favor thier son/daughter, but winning was an understood first priority. In recent days it has been replaced with win and do it with my son/daughter scoring the most and playing the most minutes. Player attitudes may be poor at times, but who is (or is supposed to be) responsible for a teen's actions ? If the coach of one sport has been given that responsibility, then we are in a sad state. Maybe if the parents cheered who is on the court, regardless, things would be as they should be. However, parents group themselves in various areas around the gym. Imagine that, the adults divide themselves in cliques, but the teen's that they impact are supposed to disregard this example and "do as we say not as we do." Coach Windle has begun repair of this process. It shows in the turnaround this year. How about allowing some time for the process since it has been less than a year since Oneida was bounced in the first round of the district tournament. Many have lamented the loss of the Oneida teams of the 90's. The Indians are working their way back to that type of team. If the parents really want to return to those days, they need to do their part. Support their kids and the other kids on the team, teach them how to act (don't rely on a coach for that), support their coach, and watch the results. The alternative is to watch a program die because no coach in their right mind would mess with selfishness and over the top expectations. Attitude begins at home and no coach can overcome what is taught there. That is my two cents. As for the OHS/SHS "rivalry", I (as an Oneida fan) don't see or feel it. We have our own worries Rockwood, Harriman, Wartburg, etc. I wish only the best for SHS and their fans, but my words go for them too. If they really want to see SHS success, get behind your coaches. Because of higher enrollment, Coach Sexton and Coach Hall really have their work cut out for them. I saw SHS nearly upset an incredible AE team this past fall in football and was cheering for Scott the whole way. The bball Highlanders can make some noise in the upcoming tournament, and I hope they do. They have proven they can play with AC, the #1 seed, so the possibilities are out there. The parents of both schools need to "step up" and show their kids and the coaches that they are ready to succeed, and worry less about distractions that do nothing but prevent the ultimate goal of winning.
  23. I would have to agree with chill with the exception that his exclusion of Coach Kamikawa seems "out of kilter." As far as the tournament goes, Friday will go a long way in seeding. Assuming a Wartburg win at Oakdale (a safe assumption), Oneida/Harriman and Wartburg/Rockwood will determine the #4 seed. Wartburg has 2 wins vs. Oneida this year. Thus, both teams win and Oneida is the #4. Both lose and Oneida is #4. Oneida wins and Rockwood wins Wartburg is the #4. Coalfield is the team to avoid for both.
  24. COY = Dallas Davis Honorable Mention - Jeff Allen (maximized the potential of his talent) POY = Amber Jeffers Honorable Mention = Ginger McGhee
