All you AA schools will have a lot to brag about if and when you beat USJ with a total enrollment of 316 students. You will really have a reason to stand tall and be proud!!!

Don't you think a school with 2 times as many students should be able to field a better team? There is no way USJ should be forced to play schools like Milan, Huntingdon, Westview and Humboldt. As much as I wish they could compete, USJ is going to have a long season next year.

no i think they can compete just not run over people like they have been doing in 1A like i said i think they have a great program but u have to understand that it has been said before that milan could not play with usj which i think is crazy and u are right they chould not be forced to play a bigger school i just think it will be interesting in 2A next year but usj will be fine after they get their feet wet but then again they should have not =created a region with 3 different teams that went to the semifinals last year in it but they did

  • 4 weeks later...

Last time I checked a public school's enrollment, included special education students, and the wonderful "no child left behind" program, the difference is that a public school gets the hand that it is dealt, whomever lives in that zone. USJ needs to get over the whining, it is supposed to be an academic institution, not everybody can get in, thus the multiplier makes sense. The thing is, that what you have been whining about, is not winning or losing, but having to compete every time you go on the court or field, instead of running over other teams from schools in A, which have less athletes. Good Luck next season, you have great coaches, and now they will get tested every week, is that not what makes a coach.

If you really believe that all public schools "get the hand that it is dealt", you are either naive, or it's very different in your part of the state.

I think the private schools have a definite advantage over the public A schools because they do not have to stay within a zone, and people don't try to figure out ways to go to these small schools to play.

I do not necessarily think the multiplier rule is the answer. In some cases they will be at a disadvantage because of this.

The big point I don't see discussed much is why does a multiplier apply to a private school and not a magnet school or a "special school dustrict". They have the same advantages over schools with the same enrollment. And why does Milan football go 11-0 in AA and Gibson Co football go 0-11.

In Jackson, look at the decline of NS, SS and JCM in many sports because of the rush to magnet schools dwindling their numbers of baseball soccer etc players. I guess the answer is to play whoever they tell you to play to the best of your ability.

    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
    • I'm from Cloudland and we've never played a sectional game.  We need to win tomorrow night to avoid that bus ride.  Us and north greene can play with you guys so I'm expecting good games whoever the matchup is.
