From the talk on the South side of the Ridge Julian was a very good hire for Halls. He is a Halls grad and from what I understand he was the peoples choice. He should be able to get the Community behaind Halls football again. Thats good news for Halls but not so good for the rest of the region.

What do you guys in Halls have to say? Do you care? Hasn't been to much chatter about this? Maybe I need to go over the Hill to the Amber for breakfast and get the scoop.

Cat, there is no scoop. This was a no brainer. KJ is a guy who will be very active in the community and will hopefully get more kids involved in this once proud program. I feel like there will be more kids participate this year, but that doesn't mean there will be any more athletes. I don't care how good of a coach or motivater you may be.....if you don't have the athletes you will not compete in this region. Believe it or not, Halls hasn't had a D1 athlete step on the field in 15-20 years. Many people may not agree with this statement, but this is a fact.

I personally thought Coach Julian was the best choice for the job too. He works really well with the players and can definately get the community more involved. From what I know of him he's also a very pleasant person and although i'm sure he has to be rough on the guys to get them to excell; he can still be a nice person; which (even though i probably shouldnt say this) is alot more than you could say of coach shephard. From what i met of him he was not a pleasant person at all.

Julian was definately the best hire for the football team and community. The other best thing was Polsten quitting or getting fired or whatever happened! Don't know who would want to go home more to a wife like he has?? As far as Athletes, Halls does have athletes . They never got to play over the one or two that had all the Hype, but talk is they won't be playing, they won't be missed. There is plenty that will step up if they are given a chance. Running backs will be better and faster, and degense should be better, only weakness will be quaterback and has been for two years. But they still cant beat us over the ridge or over in Blount county. By the way, the only Knox schools that have had D-1 players is Powell because of dads and coaches kids, they are not that good, Smith etc. , the kid from Carter's uncle played pro football, there is his help. The only one that was actually good enough was Jackson from Central. Fact is 95% from Knoxville go to small colleges. Maybe coach Julian will focus on a team as a whole instead of one or two players.

 Blojoe your statement certainly isnt indicative of the tallented players for which you speak. Huber, like him or not, has the size and agility for D-1 ball, his highschool career wasnt phenomenal but the key word is 'Potential'. Why would you feel Bruhin and Reynolds arent deserving, both have the size and with hard work should be successful. In my opinion Lee Smith was dominant as a Bobcat and certainly was a force for Powell in 04, and he may well become the best tightend, and or defensive end in the state in 05.

The trash talk is certainly expected during the season but rivalry fun and reality are two different matters.

Although Smith, Bruhin, and Huber have conncections-those guys would have signed D1 anyway. The advantage for Smith and Bruhin is their actual bloodline which you cannot ignore. People said the same about James Bates (Florida) and Scott Galyon (UT/Giants,Dolphins). James' dad-longtime D-coordiantor in the NFL, and Scott's dad-state trooper who escorted Majors/Fulmer. Bottom line is that both of those guys started multiple years for their university. The name might get you noticed, but it's the ability that gets you on the scholarship list and field. If Bruhin is Marshall's worst lineman-then they have a heck of a line. If Huber is Bama's worst athlete-same there. Have you all ever seen the Reynold's kid? He is a freak of nature-tons of ability. As of late, East TN has distributed a nice amount of D1's, and it seems like more to come.

D I players are not the key to having a very successful program. Take Maryville. Sure they are an open zone and get transfers each year that contribute to their program but they have very few D I prospects. They are able to win because of great coaching, dedicated players, and tradition. Powell had more D I players than Maryville last year and went 0-2 vs. the Rebels. Central has been a consistent winner with very few D I prospects.

By the way Halls had a D I player a couple of years ago. Conner the kicker is at Marshall. What Julian will need to do is get the kids and community excited about Halls football again, recruit the halls and the community park to insure he has the best available athletes, and restore the pride in Halls.

I stand corrected cat, Ian O'conner was a heck of a kicker. Only played two years of football. He now handles punting and kicking duties for t

The Thundering Herd. Will more than likely get an NFL try out after graduating.

Speakin on the fumbling Herd and K-town athletes, Isn't there a Webb Lineman up their? I personally saw them Dukes load him in the General and head off for West By God Virginia. Don't know if he ever made it? Them Dukes are a wild bunch. Go Rebs.
