Beech Lady Bucs

In what turned out to be a game that one thought would never end, and a scrappy and very talented team effort. Beech and Soddy played probably one of the best softball games that in my time I have had the pleasure to watch and be a part of. The game went 12 innings and both teams did everything that they possibly could to stay up in the winners bracket. Final score was Beech 3 Soddy 2. Beech tied the game up with one out in the top of the 7th to take it to extra innings. Kassi was brilliant on the mound and the Beech girls pulled together as a team to come out with a win.

I don't know what else to say other than this is a special group of girls who know that the ultimate goal is another State Championship. Again, looks as if the road is going through Beech. Hats off to both teams...What a great game! :)

The Chattanoogan.com reported that Beech scored 2 runs in the top of the 12th on a "fluke bunt". Not exactly sure what a "fluke bunt" is. Can anyone give any details of what happenned in the 12th inning.

The coach called the bunt, and another, fluky and the writer just repeated what the coach said. I've always thought the writer Stan Crawley as being far to both teams in articles, was with Chattanooga Times for years, even when one team was not from the Southeast Tennessee area.

Indian,

The reporter did just state what the coach said, however the coach happened to be Coach Kirk, not Beech's. It must have been a great game & congratulations to the Bucs who have it going with a shot at Red Bank. SD will end up playing for the who knows how many times against Red Bank or will catch Beech again in the finals of Consolation. What a great tourney!

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
